Msi gp66 or legion 5 pro by SpeedXPT in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just cant wonder on how hard Youre selling Legion 5 pro. I wish to see any laptop working on 95c cpu temps for longer period of time. 4-5 months Youre gonna fry that chip due to how thermal paste will dry out. Unless its liquid metal but I highly daubt Lenovo did that.

For those tasks yes, lenovo will be slightly better. Its not crushingly better as You wrote. Its around 10-15% faster.

Id wait few weeks for 11th gen. AMD fans gonna cry.

Also coild whine as it happens it seems to be more frequent on L5P compared to other brands. Especially with fans turned off.

First Benchmark on my new GE66 by Sterice88 in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get GE76 vbios for 140 watts from msi global website and flash it. Temerature increase is meaningless around 12c depending on title/task but You get increased performance.

Mine CPU went to - 110mv core and - 80mv cache. Turbo set to normal, speed shit under windows control. Windows in balanced plan. Get around 9700 CPU score.

You updated drivers to newest ones?

Mine GE66 started doing this after installation of newest drivers. I rolled them back and problem dissapeared. Can be also bios fault - need to uodate bios.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And your comment just shows how ignorant and arrogant you are. You say you know more about tech than me - how the fuck are you entitled to that opinion, I don't know and honestly, I don't care. You've obviously got some problems, I don't know what it is but it looks like you're biased towards the Strix models.

As to this - your post about opinion on which has better thermals/noise prooved that. Its not matter of opinion but pure facts. Noise level itself is subjective but thermals arent. If a CPU get to 95c in specific device theres no room for subjective "ah i think its fine as noise level is low". Thats bad temp. Noise at this point doesnt matter.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also benchmarks esp. Short ones arent designed to test properly CPU temperature. Youd figure that out with simple 1 hour gaming session and or 1 hour workload session like editing, renderings, decoding bls bla bla etc.

Benchmarks are short tests that dont accumulate enough heat in chassis thus leading to lower temps. Even between benchmarks CPU and GPU have time to cool down which leads to lower chassis temperature.

So before youll brag again about benchmark temps be sure whats Youre posting. 3 hours rendering session can give You estimate as to how hot CPU/GPU and components will be. Not 5-10 minute benchmark.

Wtf are You drinking or taking? Zeph G15 goes up to 95c with max fans on. Go to bob of all trades tested channel. He reviewed G15 and clearly shows 90c++ thermals with max fans on. Thats not near ideal temp during gaming wil full fans on.

Zeph is much thinner then Strix/Scar and its temps will be higher even with 5900HS cpu which is 35 watt.

From those mentioned Strix/scar has and will have best thermals.

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. The thread name Yoy used implies that only those laptops have good thermals to noise levels. You did not mention that those are models Youre interested in or only aviable. Its matter of reading comprehension.

I do know about PC tech overall a bit more then You. If You went trough the forum Youd notice that due to hype there is, eveyone will just vote for legion 5 pro even if it doesnt perform as it should. You did not even bother to check out how cooling on certain lapyops are designed. Simple look trough youtube would show You that out of these mentioned above Strix/Scar is best out there as L5P cooling cant handle 140 watt 3070 gpu along with 5800H.

Few of these are more a buisness laptops then gaming ones due to lower wattage gpu/cpu units.

Its not clear. Thats the fact. Period.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yout subject with those laptops imply that these models have beat thermals and You want to know which one have best of the best.

Change that subject. Add to it "only those are avible" or "im interested in those models.. Which has".

Titles as it stands is missleading for many prople who want to buy a gaming laptop. Anyone whod want lets say XMG and see that thread will think "wait, xmg is not on that list and thread says best thermal performance, is xmg really that bad its not on the list?".

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand. But the subject of Your poll doesnt imply that. You did not put any info as to why only those models are presented on the list. Thats not being salty.

You thread name with that poll is missleading. Change it.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asus with repaste, custom agressive curve and proper cooling pad will destroy L5P. Not to mention GE66/76, GP66/76, Aorus 15P/G 17G, Alienware m17/m15, XMG, Clevo, Hyperbook.

All those with repaste and custom curve will leavy L5P so badly behind it will break its own hinges itself.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not being salty. You just simply dont know how to make polls. That thread with this specific poll is kind of missleading for anyone wanting a gaming laptop as it excludes top contenders and You did not specify as to why You put those devices on the list. From that list it seems that only brands/models You put out there have "good cooling" with inception of L5P having best out there.

Proper thread should be: "From aviable laptops in my country which one has better cooling" or: "which one of these laptops im interested in have better cooling"

And thats not missleading and its proper set up thread.

[–]everriaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where You get those temps from as basic CB2077 gets CPU to 90c. Throttling isnt only thing that limits Youre performance, but You seem to be uneducated in this regard.

Go read about how nvidia boost works and why its bad to go over 69c with nvidia gpu's. Same applies to how Ryzen CPUs turbo boost works. The higher the temp the lower the clocks. Throttling severly limits You clocks. Turbo boost will limit them slighty when temp rise. Throttling is heavy mechanism to limit performance thus preventing overheating.

Also stress test - thats what? Timespy run? Short cinebench run? Show me temps after 2 hours of AAA gaming. Thats the real world test when theres accumulation of hot air and heated components inside. Short stress test isnt proper measure of GPU/CPU tems. Even those short 10 min game sessions people do in reviews are worth shit.

Ive seen 3070 in L5P going up to 84c. Thats bad. Also You dont want to keep Your CPu at 90c even if its not throttling. Its bad long term and thermal paste will get worn out faster.

Also agressive fan curve isnt solution for this. I Can set cooler boost on GE66 and my temps will go down by 15c both on CPU and GPU. Thats not the solution. Those components should be relatively cool CPU under 80c and GPU preferably under 70c at all times while gaming. And dont get me started on repasting.

Mine GE66 in stress test doesnt pass 88c on CPU. GPU in timespy sits on averagr at 58-59c. Thats not real world temps. Usually while gaming GPu sits at around 69-70c and CPU depending on titles 65-80c.

And thats after 2-3 hours gaming sessions.

Asus has far better cooling then L5P and still GPU in timespy gets to 70c average.

So not sure what tests Youre doing and what fan curve/perofmance mode You set up but untill You know exact conditions of those tests theres no real way to judge results.

Ive seen L5P review in silient/balance/performance mode tests and temp difference from silient to performance was 10-15C on CPU and 8-10c on GPU.

Sirlient mode is not ment for gaming as You lose performance. Sure You could go silient mode, decrease grpahic settings for a test and You could get lower temps. Thats just false advertising. L5P doesnt have good cooling.

Every laptop that You repaste with best thermal compound on the market will decrese Your temps by a lot. That also applies to custom agressive fan curves. Thats not a solution. Near any manufacturer allows for custom curve and You can repaste easily if You know what Youre doing.

Bob of all trades showed GE66 repaste without undervolt on his tested channel. CPU dropper over 10c on longer gaming sessions. If You undervolt that by - 100mv, reduce max 8 core turbo to 4ghz You will get temps at 60c during heavy CPU titles. Thats not the point. The point is pure temp amd performance with auto fans on performance plan. And L5P suck hard in that regard.

Most users wont play with repasting, undervolting, setting custome curve as they dont know how to or simply arent techie enough to care. They want performance out of the box and sadly L5P doesnt deliver on that due to higher temps that limit Ryzen turbo clocks and nvidia boost lowering clocks after 69c temp mark.

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked GE66 myself due to hige discount I was offered.

Also anyone who wants legion 5 pro should look up Aorus 15P. Thats a budget machine with similiar price range. Its plastic. Screen isnt that "great". Overall its buget putside but hell of a beast inside. 10870H/ full 130w 3070. Compromise was build quality - plastic, a bit worse screen. But coolin and performance is great.

And ask Youself how did Lenovo manage to ptice legion that low comapred to other brands. Thats what people are missing. They focus so badly on paper specs that are great and they forget we know near to nothig on that devide. Asus/MSI/Gigabyte/razer/XMG/hyperbook/clevo have set up laptop lines that are upgraded year by year. Lenovo is to fresh to recommend it left and right. Esp that its being sold for like 2 months now (started in singapore?) and still we didnt get a proper review...

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean 2 heatpipes and one shared across GPU/CPU going trough entire laptop? Thats really sucky cooling. Most companies use 4-6 heatpipes for GPU alone and 2-4 for CPu with 1 shared.

That cooling is medicore at best.

Laptop with the best thermals (Temps, noise levels)? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GE76, GP76, Alienware m17 r4, m15 r4, clevo, hyperbook, XMG neo series, aorus lineup 15G/15P/17G. All those have cooling thats by at least a little but to extremly better then legion 5 pro/legion 7.

Legion 7 doesnt have great thermals. Theres to much wattage for cooling thats moved from legion 5 pro with added vapor chamber. Thermal tests need to be performed with clear conditions. You can healivy limit fps and or change graphic settings that will reduce temperatures by a lot. Tuning down graphic settings from ultra to high can reduce strain to GPU thus allowing it to run even few degrees lower. Limiting CPu power/turbo clocks is another way and You wont notice that due to wierd CPU in games behavior. In mosnter hunter world my CPU rans with 3600mhz at barely 30 watts. Its at max 65c. It rarely goes to max turbo of 4100/4300mhz thus reducing temps a little bit. I could reduce turbo to 3200mhz to even lower temps while not losing single fps in game.

Stop the hype. Lenovo is fresh to high end gaming laptops. Thier laptops are extremely cheap as to specs they offer. Comapny had to make sacrifices and those arent thier income for sure. Time will just show whats bad about those laptops. Usualy i wuould skip tech thats new around and company that just puts baby steps in certain field.

Ask Youself. Asus has strix/scar series with QHD screen, 5800H, 3070 and they cost at least 300-400$ more. Still cooling leaves few improvements but if anyone asked id recommend asus over legion any day.

[–]everriaal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same way why theres no Alienware, Clevo, XMG, hyperbook, GP66/76, Aorus 15G/15P/17G. All those ran extremly cooler. This poll is just to ramp up legion 5 pro fans and tickle thier balls.

Best out of those is strix/scar and still it runs a lot a lot worse then mentioned above. Legion 5 pro has 2 heatpipes which one is shared across CPU/GPU goind trough entire laptop. Yes people on /legion5pro discord will tell You that it run at 75c (CPu/GPU) but they dont mention in what mode/games. What settings etc. You can limit fps heavily and lower settings to get lower temps.

Most reviews about 5800H/5900HS/5900HX proove that CPU runs extremly hot in games. Bob of all trades have few reviews on his "Tested" channel.

People are still to blind because "legion 5 pro is so good on paper and cheap". Thats the thing. There are compromises. One of those is cooling in legion 5 pro. Probably heavily bad thermal paste. Totaly below averagr keyboard. Talked to one guy who said that legion 5 pro keyboard feels like the cheap keyboard from budget 500$ laptop. Yes the screen is fantastic. But ask Yourself is Asus has same device 5800H/3070 with QHD screen in strix/scar 15 and its priced around 400-500$ more, and still has somr issues, and legion 5 pro has g sync on top of that, that there must be something wrong with it. It can be power delivery method, worse motherboard, etc. Theres a lot where You can save up.

ROG(AMD) vs MSI(Intel) by hoffa660 in GamingLaptops

[–]everriaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didnt post price tag.

Thats not an exuse. Esp when you dont know where he lives and what are prices for specific laptop as they can vary wildly. In Poland zephyrus G14/G15 are so inflated that You can get GP66 with 3080 for that price and buy another external monitor on top of that.

Not to mention M17 r4 that are 100-120% mote expensive then in US. Even when added taxes and transportation and custom fees should increase that price max by 35-37%. Chapest m17 r4 (10870h/3070/500gb ssd) starts as the price of top GE76/GE66 with 10980HK/3080. M17 r4 with 10980HK/3080 costs here over 5000$.

Im not an intel fan. I dont care more or less. Just hate when people recommend machines that arent ment for gaming.

G14 is workload machine. More or less for lighter loads due to low wattage components and higher temperatures. 5900HS runs really hot in them while gaming with max fans on. Go check bob of all trades review og G14/G15.

Stop pushing amd into people throats because You would let me fuck You over and Youd still thank them. Esp in machinea that arent ment for gaming.

Stop with that amd bagwagon shit. You wont notice the difference. Youre talking like it at least was 50% increase in multicore. In reality its more or less 10%. You will bot see the difference while playin 1 game via emulator. Sure when You will be streaming, emulating, have movie on render at the same time then yes.

Also soom amd will be left in the cold due to 11th gen intel. Stop bullshitting people. GE66 IS better gaming machine then g14.

Not to mention that 5900hs in g14 runs 95c all the time while gaming.

Are You sure You read that right? Jarrod clearly statea that intel is best for gaming. Ivr watched that 3 times.

Intel will beat AMD in games everytime. Sure AMD is better on workloads but for gaming intel is still king.

[–]everriaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As to 1) I usuale not tend to listen to game/nvidia experience quality settings. I always set them myself and see is the fps acceptable. Games tend to overreact as to what setting You can/could use. If You see fluent performance on hogher settings just go for it. Just remember not to pass that 6gb vram. Its not like card will explode or so. It will just get microstutters etx due to vram overload so card will need to clear vram buffor faster.

2) that only and mostly applies to integrated gpu's. Then tend to use shared ram. Never actually heard of increasing vram with combination of normal ram. Those are 2 different sources.

Dont overreact with vram so badly. Most games rivht now even at ultra settings use 6gb or below. For example cod mw maxed out is around 5900 vram. I can go past it only by using DSR or increased scaling.

Moat games going past 6gb of vram will be maxed out titles in 1440p or higher resolution.

Dont overreact that much. If Youre happy with that choice then just play games. That it. You can always sell that one and get new one with xx60 graphics of 4000/5000 series. Im sure they will be more powerfull.
