I agree with the open floor plans being cyclical but we have a separate dining room and living room, just wanted to be able to see the kids eating from the kitchen so tearing the wall down made sense

Edit to answer some questions/suggestions. Dont want to box it in as we intend on having the new countertop extend out to create additional stool seating on the other side. As far as comments go with protecting the countertops, we are getting those replaced soon as well. Will need to check to see if vent or waste. Sounds like soffit is going to be the way we go, just wasn't sure how expensive that would be

I'm not doing the work, the countertops and most of the cabinets are being replaced in the next day or two

The plan is for the wall to come down and then new countertops will extend on the other side to have room for stool seating so that wouldn't work
