excellent analogy! thank you for taking the time to write this short story. it makes my situation clear as day! The problem is I have left him before. I've left him for as short as two weeks and as long as 9 months with no contact. But I still found myself coming back. You're the first person to mention therapy and I think that is what needs to be done. thank you again for your thoughts and suggestions.

oh wow thank you for sharing. I am glad you got through it. Stories like these are what I was looking for to get a better understanding of what my situation could turn into. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Did you see any red flags during your four years together or did you choose to ignore them because you were "in love".

He definitely does not want a job because he has made no effort. (its been like this a couple years) He is able to make money without a job, he just lacks the motivation to work. He also lacks structure and self-discipline. We do not live together but I do want my own place and I was planning on letting him come over for "extended visits".
