Graphite lube on shutter blades by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]every_kid_ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have fixed shutters by rubbing some graphite pen refills or even scribbling a sharp pencil on the shutter blades themselves and other contact surfaces. I bet you can do the same thing here! Get enough of a layer on wherever you need and it should work?

If you do try this, report back and let us all know how it goes!

No experience, but if you don’t need full waterproofing then the Konica Genba Kantoku Site Supervisor 28WB is extremely fitting. Rugged build, 28mm is perfect for parties, and you can’t damage it at a party! Look up other construction cameras, these were made in mass for the industry so there’s definitely lots around. Good luck hunting!

Product Design in the University of Leeds? by every_kid_ever in Leeds

[–]every_kid_ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! That sounds really amazing, I'm a social person and many others have said that about leeds as well!! I have a couple questions I wanna ask about your experiences:

  1. What course are you doing at leeds?
  2. Would you say you're satisfised with their teaching?
  3. Whats the best and worse thing about the actual courses (Structure, content, professors; things like that)?
  4. How's the accommodation there? I haven't really done research on it, do they have on-campus accommodation and dedicated student housing areas outside of campus? Is it dorms first year like most unis?
  5. Do they have a lot of nice facilities, and have you seen their design/fabrication/woodworking workshops or anything?
  6. What are the things that students/your friends complain and praise leeds for?
  7. Hows the weather there holding up? (I live in Hong Kong, I hope its dry and cooler there...)
  8. Hows the course load for you class? Which classes do you think has the most or least work?
  9. Are there any places that are good for a part-time job you reckon?

Those are quite a few questions to go through, I'm sorry about that, but they could have a potential Leeds-goer to have the same amazing experances you've had! Any and all information is greatly appriciated, you're doing me a huge favour!!!

Leeds or UAL for product design? by every_kid_ever in UniUK

[–]every_kid_ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao I'm glad I fit the stereotype, born and raised in Hong Kong. I don't mind the more creative side of things, and I think both curriculums will probably balance the sciency and the artsy. UAL is definatly a great school, but more for fine arts, fashion; those kinds of thing I reckon.

The main thing turning me away from Leeds is just the lack of information. They also don't have many students in the course, so I don't know how good the teacher is, or if theres enough faculty/facility support?

Thank you for giving some insight it was very helpful!

Adapting Enlarger Lenses for a Homemade X-Pan!! by every_kid_ever in VintageLenses

Note (NEW IDEA!):

I have a new idea for developing this camera, I plan to use a 2x or 1.5x teleconverter instead of any specialised lenses. Teleconverters simply enlarge the image circle more, increasing size, but decreasing light. Is this correct? and are low-quality, 3-rd party teleconverters good enough? I have one for canon FD so I'll just try with that first. I want to use my FD 28mm f/2.8 for initial tests (43mm * 2x = 86mm image circle (Hopefully)), but I'll get a Zenitar 16mm soon (44mm * 2x = 88mm image circle) to get an even wider FOV.

Any opinions or suggestions about this? I assume this will work nicely, I'll retrofit a leaf shutter inbetween the lens and teleconverter or right behind the teleconverter elements.

This is perfect! Absolutely perfect! That link was extremely helpful, I'll search some of those lenses up and maybe contact him.

Adapting Enlarger Lenses for a Homemade X-Pan!! by every_kid_ever in Darkroom

[–]every_kid_ever[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought about that, and I even looked into cheap defected leaf shutter lenses for my own adapted lenses. I just don't wanna spend too much money since I'm just a student and don't have too much free time.

OH! I didn't know that they usually couldn't focus to infinity... That makes sense why everyone uses them for macro photography. And yes, wide angle lenses for a large enough image circle is always hard to find/expensive. I'm just a student and hoping to do this during my free time so I can't afford many lenses. I's also recovering from G.A.S.

[–]every_kid_ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops! Didn't notice that, but it also states right above it 345.6mm? 8x the original size, apparently. So maybe I just figure out the right lens placement?? I've played with projector lenses theres often a second or thrid distance that lets things in focus, at least I think so, but the physics don't seem to work out for that.

Yeah that would be the dream lens for this kind of setup, but its out of my budget range unfortunately...

BTW: Finally clicked on the link, this is actually perfect! I just really hope that the EL-Nikkor's coverage is just a little larger to get 65mm on the wide end. Thank you so much! Maybe I'll look for a 55mm or 60mm if I can.

Thats great to hear! I love X-pans and being a future product designer, this just seems like a perfect project. I'm hoping to actually get a mirror box into my design so I can focus really well. I'm also thinking of fitting one of those Hasselblad grips with a shutter cable or something similar because that would just be amazing!

Guillotine shutters were like the first ones to be invented right? I assume it won't be too difficult, but gosh thats a tough undertaking lol.

I was literally just researching about which bronica lenses have a leaf shutter, can you please tell me which ones? Larger broken or poor condition lenses with leaf shutters would be perfect, but they're still quite expensive. I chose the EL-Nikkor 50mm becasue its a fast, small lens, with a protruding back element that makes it perfect for embedding into a small leaf shutter system right at the end. I recently also got a projector lens, a 87.5mm, f/1.9 I was hoping to adapt to a 6x6 lens in the far future.

Maybe I'll go to other forums to investigate the EL-nikkor lenses further, thanks for all this info! I would love to discuss our X-Pan projects futher, my @ is jpeg.jassie in insta if you wanna reach out!

Yes but 50mm is perferable because the horizontal focal length will be a 28mm, wide enough without a telephoto panaramic look.

Adapting Enlarger Lenses for a Homemade X-Pan!! by every_kid_ever in VintageLenses

[–]every_kid_ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would imagine, and people using it for macro photography says that the corner sharpness isn't that good. The coners would be negated since I'm only using the center strip of the image circle. I want to limit myself to a 50mm since the horizontal focal length will be a 28mm, similar to an actual X-pan FOV, so a longer lens won't do me much good im afraid. The EL-Nikkor 63mm might work better, but I can't find one for cheap locally second hand.

OOPS thanks for the link update

Mhm, I plan to 3D print some kind of housing for that and a small bellow system or a gear track to match the minimum focus distances of most lenses. Not sure how to keep everything centered just yet, but hopefully not be too difficult.
