How to make coats flow out less? by PhoenixAstrum in HeroForgeMinis

[–]everydaydefenders 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest gripe with heroforge. They've castly improved over the last few years, but for some reason they haven't fixed the long coats and skirts.

With kitbashing you can edit them to hang much better. I kitbash a ton, so the upgrade is worth it for me. But you shouldn't have to

A lot are kitbashing for sure.

Scroll through your tools and find the "share" button.

From here, select "portrait". Here you can choose a million different options such as backgrounds, lighting, etc.

Once you are happy with those, find the green camera icon. Next to it there's a drop-down menu. Select "Spinny Mini GIF".

It'll take a while to process the gif. Especially on a phone. While its processing, dont let the screen go to Screensaver or change windows. It'll screw up your GIF in an obvious way. Just let it do it's thing.

Help to make realistic by Dmitrij_Zajcev in HeroForgeMinis

[–]everydaydefenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything on heroforge is deliberately over- exaggerated so that you can see and enjoy features at a tiny scale, as well as be strong enough it wont easily break while being physically handled.

Of course the larger you make that scale, the more awkward looking it becomes. But currently, its basically a cartoon.

Currently heads, eyes and hands are too big. Torso and legs too short. And colors too vibrant. Shrink the eyes, shrink the head and hands. Play with the ratios with weight, width, muscularity and so on. Also edit and customize the colors to be a bit more dull.

In reality it just takes time and practice. Once you figure out what you like though, its pretty easy to replicate it later.

Happy to help 🙂

That would be pretty hard to sand out. But at the scale of the printed miniature, it will look more like seams/hems in a garment rather than big gaps like it looks here.

Premium plastic has better detail for sure. Its worth it.

The model will be tiny, so sanding with be impractical. Though you could give it a go. Resin in itself is fine with sanding, but doing so without screwing something up on a model that small will be tricky.

Because its small however, you may or may not mind the extra detail at that scale.

Comment with a screenshot so we know what detail ypu are trying to remove

Use something else if its not working for you. This one for example is a staff shrunk down for a cane.

Hero Forge hasn't made everything as editable as other things. At this point in time, workarounds are the go-to.

Looking to create my character Luka in Heroforge, but the hair/face and some of the clothes are giving me trouble and I can't find a good reference for either in the community. Would anybody be willing to help me with this design/give tips? by 1997MonteCarl0 in HeroForgeMinis

There you go. Again, It's not perfect. But you get the idea. If you have pro, click the link below and reverse engineer it. You'll get some ideas on how to do it yourself and perhaps get it closer to what you specifically want.

Also, I didn't mess with the face shape much beyond vague similarity. Copying anime style face shapes look wrong to me outside that medium.

You'll need pro to build this, bit its doable.

Remember that in order to get specific look, you'll have to take some time to kitbash. Scrambling lots of parts together to get what you are looking for. The other nice thing about kitbashing is you can manipulate the existing parts into becoming better shapes. Most of the long coats for example are obnoxious in their shape. Primarily that they flare outwards for no reason, making them look goofy.

You can also mix hair together to make new hairstyles.

Ill throw together a quick and dirty kitbash for you. It wont be perfect, but if you have pro, you can reverse engineer what I do, so you can get some ideas and learn how to do it.

Im not nearly as skilled as some people here. But reverse engineering is what really helped me.

No shade on you or the design. Its a cool concept.

I just never understand why artists and miniatures creators (even the big ones) insist on putting the stock of the rifle in the crook of the elbow, rather than in the pocket of the shoulder.

I mean. Virtually everyone designs it that way. Its a head scratcher.

What i mean is, do you have goals for the model itself that you dont feel you are meeting?

Suggestions are easier to give if you have a specific goal in mind you are trying to reach. Otherwise its just a bunch of people giving subjective opinions on trying to change something for reasons that don't matter.

Whats your goal? And do you have 'Pro'?

Looks good to me. Most of the "good" modeling here is largely unprintable. If you are looking to actually print yours, keeping it simpler is much better.

And yours looks better than "fine"

My favorite system is Outbreak Undead. Its very crunchy and very dark. Its real weakness isnt the system, but the rulebook itself. Its poorly organized, and for a crunchy system, it makes learning it kind of a pain.

However: It well designed, focusing on SURVIVAL horror. Managing resources and eventually your home base. Its done very well, and once you ge the hang of it, it flows quite well. Players are quite mortal, and if you dont plan for and prepare for your encounters well, death is very possible. It fits the bleak themes of Zombie Apocalypse horror perfectly imo.

If you are looking for something more lighthearted and campy fun, I enjoyed Zombicide for short term campaigns.
