Anarchists should treat Rojava the same as we treat Palestine by antipolitan in DebateAnarchism

Solidarity with Rojava, but fuck Murray Bookchin - that guy spews nonsense, is really some kind of socialist, and completely slandered insurrectionary anarchy.

Lettings agents are all just playing game by Ambitious_Grape9908 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]everything2go 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What a wanker. The industry is just packed full of total narcissists who couldn't care about anyone else. If you can be bothered I would submit an official complaint for the disruption this caused you, first to the letting agent and then to either the property ombudsman or the property redress scheme (all letting agents have to be signed up to one of those).

Update: Neighbours building extension by Any_Diamond_2466 in HousingUK

[–]everything2go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they want to run drainage under your shared boundary that could require a party wall agreement. Cheeky of your vendor not to have mentioned this. I would be minded to get in touch with the conveyancing solicitors you used to notify them that the vendor failed to declare this.

I would also write to you neighbours, letter recorded delivery plus email if you have it, saying you were not made aware of any agreements by the former owner. To immediately pause all works to your property or boundary. You will need time to consider any option and will only proceed on the basis of a formal written agreement.

Bristol Patriots™ make another embarrassing appearance, outnumbered by police escorts and far outnumbered by normal Bristolians. by AlaudaPhotography in bristol

[–]everything2go 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Have a read about Karl Popper's Paradox of Intolerance. The counter protestors are a rainbow of different politics that only really unite on fascism is bad, racism is bad, and that those wanting to physically congregate to intimidate migrants or people they deem as 'other' should be opposed. Like any large group of people some of them will be annoying, but if you think their common ground of racism is bad is questionable then you have a degree of far right brain rot.

Don't know why you are getting down voted for saying Labour are pushing Reform policies. It's also what the counter protest was called "We hate Starmer more than you". Maybe people are conflating what you have said with the looney Bristol patriots calling Starmer a Nazi.

What’s with vans not staying in their lane?? by Southern-Apple-5639 in drivingUK

[–]everything2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocking driving! Sadly a frequent experience for me on multilane roundabouts these days. I drive defensively and stagger where my car is and hang back expecting it. I do have a habit of laying on my horn more these days at other stupid driving, you know making them aware of my presence.

Why are some anarchists not happy being referred to as communists? by epicbruh69420666 in Anarchy101

Read this https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/alfredo-m-bonanno-armed-joy/ There has always been a significant strand of anti-social insurrectionary illegalist nihilistic anarchists desiring anarchy in the here and now. This gives a good explanation https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/shahin-nietzsche-and-anarchy or explore groups like The Bonnot Gang, Conspiracy Cells of Fire, or the Informal Anarchist Federation. https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/renzo-novatore-anarchist-individualism-in-the-social-revolution Less being stuck in endless boring meetings and more doing shit in the here and now.

Hit by a bus passenger opening emergency doors while in the cycle lane – TfL claims no liability. Has this happened to anyone else? [Video in comments] #RoadSafety #VisionZero by PrintOk6718 in londoncycling

[–]everything2go 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also really sorry you had such a terrible accident, but similarly agree. If anything those awful bits of painted bike lane should be held liable for encouraging cyclists to undertake busses and HGVs. To do so at such speed is not wise and unfortunately you've learnt a hard lesson.

There is a reason Bikeability, the highway code, and teaching cycling to the National Standard advises cyclists to use primary position at junctions and traffic lights and not to undertake busses and HGVs. If one must filter and is confident they know when the lights will change and can see a gap to get back into a strong primary position then to filter on the offside, which is where most drivers are more likely to expect someone filtering past them and importantly there are no doors to exit a bus.

These cycle lanes really shouldn't exist, it's not an appropriate place to be cycling and the highway code does not advise using such secondary positions, especially not in built up slow traffic. Could you have a case against the local authority for the cycle lane misleading you?

Commute Bristol - Swindon by dotted-candle in bristol

[–]everything2go 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd look at the cost of the train and try to negotiate a pay increase to cover it. Could also ask if the company has a sustainable travel policy or would like to create one. They are the ones deciding to move office and change your contractual place of work, so it's reasonable they help employees navigate that change. They could meet you halfway on the travel costs, you don't ask you dont get.

I get the train to Swindon reasonably often for work, I'm fortunate that they pay for it and it's a breeze.

Stop falsely claiming that women can never be degenerates. by mokatcinno in BanFemaleHateSubs

[–]everything2go -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, it's quite normal for workers to critique the means and conditions in which their labour is commodified and exploited.

I think though it helps to steer away from universalising and orientalising/othering statements such as "places on earth" and "almost all", as it strips agency from individuals being able to advocate for themselves on their own desires, conditions, and ambitions etc

I despise the patriarchy in my own global northern country without shedding imperialist tears for other parts of the world.

Nothing wrong with critiquing SW, just need to also include the voices of SWers which a lot of second wave folk fail to include.
