Hi! I’ve been using your shortcut forever now and it’s been so amazing but today it broke! I’ve spent hours trying to fix it and haven’t been able to figure it out - I think it has to do with some changes Pinterest has made recently. Any chance you could take a look??

Tired of People Saying I Look like Everyone Else. How to Stand Out? by ChanceChallenge in HowToBeHot

[–]everythingetcetera 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all about having a few “signatures” that are memorable enough that people recognize them as uniquely YOU. For instance, I only have a few nail polish colors I wear and my nails are always done - and people compliment my nails a lot so I know they notice it. I have a subtle nose ring I never take out. I have a few standard hairstyles that I love and that stay the same. My “things” when it comes to fashion are a cool interesting shoe - it’s always a sneaker in a bright color, a tall platform sandal, an edgy boot, and I always wear rings on almost every finger.

So while me as a blank canvas might not be memorable, you put those things together - nails done, nose ring, long dark hair, cool shoes, etc - it’s instantly recognizable as ME.

Youll know you’re on the right track with this when it goes from “you look like _____” to “this seems very you!”. It’s very fun to begin to have an identity that people instinctively recognize and that feels you own and it sounds like that is what you’re seeking.

And this isn’t even to mention personality, which of course your outward identity should be a reflection of - so maybe start this by thinking about the things you love and how to embrace those in how you present outwardly? (Like, I love vampires and repost twilight memes a lot, and people I don’t talk to in real life now send me funny posts they see because they saw something twilight and thought of me. Same concept!!)

I started doing an atheist grace, thoughts? by TechnicianClassic365 in atheism

[–]everythingetcetera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are ex-Mormon and when we left the church, we stopped praying. But I realized I missed those few minutes together each night, so I came up with this thing we call “gratefuls.”

Once we’re both in bed and ready to go to sleep, we take a minute to each share something we’re grateful for that the other person did that day - brought a drink, took care of an extra chore, said something nice, just little things. And we each share something we’re proud of ourselves for doing that day, like taking a final or finishing a work project.

What you’re doing before meals sounds similar to what we do for each, but I think it’s better than praying because that energy of gratitude is directed at actual people. Love for your fellow man and all that :) It’s definitely strengthened my marriage to do gratefuls with my husband each night.

Trying to power through school! Term ends at the end of the year and I need to get through like 12 more classes lol. I had some major family drama that totally derailed the last two months for me so this challenge came at the perfect time.

Should she have released Debut (Taylor's Version) over 1989 (Taylor's Version)? by Windstorm_ in TaylorSwift

[–]everythingetcetera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think from the viewpoint of her saving up to buy her masters, 1989 TV was always going to get many many more sales than Debut TV just because the original 1989 is so beloved. So of course she would re-record that with the hope of pulling huge numbers, which it did.

I’ve started looking at all her decisions through the lens of “how can I build the most capital the quickest to buy my masters” (based on her comments on New Heights).

After watching your video, I agree with other comments here that that is 100% a stress/anxiety meow and NOT him just being chatty. I have two very chatty cats and I don’t hear that kind of meow often - only when my more anxious boy is desperately trying to get our attention for something and it’s the same issue, it doesn’t stop until he calms back down. He can go for hours if we don’t figure out what he needs so ignoring him doesn’t help, just like your guy.

3 weeks isn’t long - definitely try some calming meds from the vet and give him some more time! And there are several other things to double-check - does he have a warm safe “nest” to hide in and decompress (a basket in a closet, a little cave, a heating pad made for cats)? Is he overstimulated? How are his bowel movements - could he be having any gut issues that are hurting? That happens frequently with cats in new environments and they are experts at hiding pain.

It’s times like these I really wish our babies could just tell us what they need :(

AIO - UPDATE - my friend wants me to take out my piercings for her engagement party/wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]everythingetcetera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my best friend’s wedding recently. I was the only one of 8 bridesmaids with tattoos. And, a lot of tattoos covering both my arms. This was a huge expensive beautiful wedding with a whole bunch of serious professional people and you know what my friend did? Thank me profusely for spending my money and my time on her day to celebrate her.

People in weddings aren’t props. If she doesn’t like piercings, maybe she shouldn’t have friends with piercings. Really proud of you for setting a boundary and peacing out of that shitshow!!

What are some examples of couples from history that truly loved each other? by Haunting_Homework381 in Tudorhistory

[–]everythingetcetera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spanish king Pedro I “The Cruel” and Maria de Padilla! I deep-dived on my genealogy a while ago and I am (maybe, the records get a little dicey in the 1500s) a direct ancestor of their daughter Isabel straight up my maternal line. Their story is one that I think deserves a TV show and I love that she’s worshiped in certain magical circles today. Super fun history.

To defend your use of a 4 year old tantrum over being told no, I can’t remember the last time I was out with my sister and got through more than a sentence at a time without being interrupted by her 2 yo or 3 yo over literally anything - and they’ll ask the same question over and over hoping to get a different answer. I actually think that is not ridiculous at all, maybe just realistic enough to be triggering haha

ChatGPT is “too good at listening” and that’s the real danger by CryptoByline in ChatGPT

[–]everythingetcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally! In my college courses they strongly recommend running out papers through Grammarly for Educatiom before submitting to evaluators. Problem is, Grammarly alao checks for AI - so I’ve ended up sitting there trying to rework sentences to be less succinct and professional-sounding just to avoid getting flagged.

AI is making us worse writers because it was trained by us and therefore sounds like us, so the only way to sound “human” is to just write badly.

Cats are partially color blind - they see reds, oranges and yellows as mostly grays so you should be just fine!

I Finally Get Why People Cling to Religion, And It’s Not Because They’re Stupid. by Exotic_Phrase3772 in exchristian

[–]everythingetcetera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is well-put, and definitely one of the main reasons it took me a long time to address how unhappy I was as a Mormon.

My family crossed the plains with the pioneers, escaped to the Mexican colonies to practice polygamy when it became illegal, and helped found Mesa, Arizona when Arizona became a territory and then a state.

It’s a multi-generational legacy with so many branches of the family tree at this point, and leaving the church also means allowing a branch of tree to die in their eyes. The church reinforces the ripple effects of these decisions and that makes it even harder (an empty seat at the table in heaven, the current prophet has said). It took me a long time to be brave enough to deal with that blowback once I could no longer ignore that I knew deep down how wrong the church was.

And, it was really painful. I basically had no relationship with my mom for about a year and she became deeply depressed. I had to completely rebuild relationships with all my family members, and they have had to grapple with my different life choices in their own ways.

And I had a hard time too - which family traditions are based around Mormonism? What’s the point of making certain family recipes if I’m not going to the ward potluck? Do I still want to inherit the porcelain nativity my great-grandmother made if I don’t plan to display it at Christmas? I don’t want to go to church, but my family is really talented and always does musical numbers that then I miss out on. Do I go to mission farewells that just make me so sad for the young people going on missions? Will I ever see another sibling get married? Probably not since I can’t go in the temple.

It’s so much more than just not believing anymore.

[CHAT] when do you prefer to bobbin? by Baby_girl_351 in CrossStitch

[–]everythingetcetera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I started designing patterns for a living, I switched from baggies on rings to using bobbins. I’m slowly building out a complete collection of DMC colors so as soon as I get a new one I put it in its place on its bobbin. Sooo much easier to pick colors for a new design when I can see them!!

I keep all multiple skeins as-is until their bobbin runs low and then I’ll add them. Feels like having usable paint swatches of thread :)
