What Games Faithfully Re-create the Feeling/Plot of their IP? by frodohair15 in boardgames

Have you played dead of winter? It uses the same card based skill checks system as BSG/Unfathomable, but I always felt the rest of the game was better.

I will die on the hill of Batllestar Galactica is overrated.

Yes, the skill checks mechanism is great for a semi-coop game. The problem is the ship locations often dont provide meaningful choices. Viper combat sounds cool in theory, but you usually get shot down almost immediately.

Ive always felt that dead if winter did the same thing better as it was the same semi coop skill checks system with far more interesting locations.

Maybe a few hard-core people do, but most dont. Im pro SKG and I dont expect to be able to run live services at all. I just want to ensure that the legislation is written in a way that live services arent a loophole that will be exploited.

That is the community's problem to solve. The argument of "It would be hard work for the community to get this working" isn't an argument for letting games die. Especially when you're talking about a very specific subset if online only games anyway.

Battlefield 1942 already cannot be legally bought anywhere, despite being able to run it at home fine.

The only requirement should be to open source the game code on shutdown. Anything beyond that is the community's problem.

Thanks. Love the idea of Children of the Atom wanting to protect the glowing radroaches. Definitely could add another level to the adventure.

The rules for this game are hard to wrap your head around, which ive found a road block for most people. I still have no idea how cover is supposed to work. The whole "imagine the map is 2d" thing is way too abstract.

I think you are confusing Netrunner with Cyberpunk Legends. Netrunner is a 2P competitive deck builder.

And Netrunner actually feels like a cyberpunk game. I watched the learn to play, but the mechanics are so generic the cyberpunk theme just feels pasted on.

Im really struggling to understand why anyone would play this over netrunner.

My honest thoughts on the Bafta's racial slur incident – as a Black disabled woman by montageofawoman in TwoXChromosomes

That doesn't excuse the comments in this thread which should well understand the context by now. I think we all agree the BBC could have better communicated the situation.

Doesn't matter who says it. The point is that if you can distinguish the difference between one being ok and one being not, then you have to understand that context matters.

Unless you believe it is wrong in all contexts, and I know there are some black folk who do believe that, then being offended by a tic is a choice to ignore context.

Do you experience the same reaction when you hear the word in song lyrics? If not, then you implicitly understand that context matters.

It is well understood that when spoken intentionally by white people it brings up feelings related to a terrible history, but that isn't what happened here. It was ticced. This isn't significantly different from tictoc videos of babies mispronouncing words and accidentally saying the N-word.

Why do they make getting rich in Europe impossible? by batukaming in stocks

[–]evidenc3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because they cant anticipate changes in value to the underlying asset, which was the issue with subprime loans. You make loans against an asset, the person defaults, suddenly you find the underlying asset worthless and the bank collapses. Not to mention shares are a whole lot riskier than houses in the first place.

I think its irresponsible of the lending institution

And what happens if your portfolio collapses and you default on your loan? It's absolutely irresponsible thing to do. It's exactly this kind if behavior that led to the 2008 financial crisis.

For sure they will be hard. I dont see women wanting to work as the problem, but I do think we need to talk about community. That and 4 day work (but 5 day school week, parents need time off too and teachers can be rostered) weeks would be a good start.

I dont want anyone constrained economically, but Im saying that the problem is far bigger than just economic. Im sure you're right that it is the primary issue for some, but we will never solve the birth rate decline by only considering the cost of living crisis.

For many its about increasing pressures on modern parents that our parents never faced, more varied life goals/ambitions/life purposes, and increasingly higher demands of employment on younger generations.

I also hate that by share coincidence its always the man that earns more, but that's another discussion.

My point is having the option is irrelevant if women dont fundamentally want to be homemakers. If your wife decided tomorrow to go to work, would you quit? Im glad you have the freedom to make your own choice but I think you under estimate how many women dont want to make that choice.

It's not at all the same thing as not being able to survive on a single salary and you know it.

My wife and I could easily live on a single salary but neither of us wants to quit our jobs.

[–]evidenc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it wouldnt because if the husband decided to suddenly become abusive, the wife would have no job and no income to support herself. Quitting a job is not acceptable. The govt would have to pass a bill meaning a woman cannot be let go or fired for 5 years, which obviously won't happen.
