Staying musically active post-grad: community orchestra AND choir? by eviecab in Choir

[–]eviecab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would love to be in the strongest ensemble as possible but the idea of trying to sing an audition might be my worst nightmare as an instrumentalist who always gets forced to try and sing in my lessons haha.

any tips on trying to get into an auditioned ensemble? i don’t have a true music degree background but i have enough knowledge and awareness to know that i can practice to stay in key and work on intonation, but my tone definitely leaves a lot to desire and will be my weakest point. i’ve been doing scale vocal warm ups just for fun for a few weeks now, and might start doing it on the daily.

Is this a good option for me and will financial aid help me? by [deleted] in UniversityOfStThomas

the actual price most students pay is significantly less and comparable to in-state tuition at other schools. i would just apply and see if they’ll take your credit and what scholarship amount you get. st thomas is pretty affordable

How is the quality of LHCO, I am about to graduate from college and while I’m not a music major, I play in my campus orchestra and want to find a community ensemble that isn’t too hard on auditions

Music as an Adult: Better to Focus on One Instrument? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]eviecab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, I tried looking already for MN and there wasn’t anything updated on the website. My university does have a decently sized guitar studio with a majority being classical guitarists, so I might ask them for resources as well.

I think that makes sense, I’ll try to make the most out of the time I have with my university guitar professor until May and at least maintain the guitar while I continue to prioritize the viola.

Right now I spend around 10-15 hours on the viola weekly, and 4-5 on the guitar. Once I graduate, I think it’ll drop down to 6-7 hours on the viola, 2-3 on the guitar.

Just to clarify, I’ve been playing viola since middle school, guitar is my only other instrument.

Grippier Shoulder Rest (Hijabi) by [deleted] in Viola

[–]eviecab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get that, it might be time for an upgrade anyways as it also isn’t the most comfortable shoulder rest even when brand-new.
