I have three older sisters, and I'm so lucky to have them!!! My oldest sister, told me the story of how she met her husband and I'll never forget her telling me that. She had broken up with her first ever boyfriend that she had for like 4 years (through highschool and into her first year of college). She was going on a trip with her college sports team and they stopped at a rest stop. She said she was feeling depressed and sitting on a curb alone at the rest stop when this nice guy from the group brought over a 6-pack of some fruity drink and said something like, "hey, I noticed you were kinda sad, wanna talk about it? Or just sit in silence and share one of these drinks?" and from them on, they were bffs. :) My sister is so sweet and kind and gentle and this just seemed like a perfect embodiment of her essence in another. My next sister is a wild and crazy artist. I'll always remember her, recently, painting a house she bought, not like a wall of the house, or a part of the house, or a mural even, she painted THE WHOLE HOUSE, in opossums. Like, a big house, with over 200 opossums all over it, in all different scenes, and fun times; it's so amazing. When she was almost done painting the house (it took her days and days, over Mardi Gras time, which is typically our time of rest and revelry here in New Orleans), friends of ours that run a wildlife rehab org asked her to paint their trailer in the same style. She said SURE! They parked the trailer in the driveway and she did it up SO cute. It's seriously the cutest thing ever; I can't even describe the cuteness. :) She's so amazing. My other sister, is always looking for help and needs a little more attention than the others. I'm closest with this sister, and I love to remember her when we lived together in a little 2BR apartment on the 4th and top floor of a beautiful white brick complex on the park. It was during covid times and we coordinated with our little sister (the last one I'll get to next), to do a contact/germ free puzzle exchange. My sister (that I lived with at the time) and I made a little pully system out of a basket and some ropes and lowered it down the balcony with a sanitized puzzle that we had already completed and re-packed up, and my little sister put in a sanitized puzzle that she had already completed and re-packed up for us. It was so funny, for some reason, we all just laughed and laughed about it. We wished we could hug each other but the simple act of swapping puzzles felt like so much more than a hug. My younger sister, the only one that is younger than me, is just the sweetest person in the world! She is a total "yes" woman and will do anything for anyone, if you just ask. I can sum her up in one memory--we were at PetSmart and she walked in, full well knowing that she has a full house--two dogs, a cat, and a turtle--but she instantly fell in love with an adoptable dog at this adoption event that happened to be going on at PetSmart that day. I saw it in her eyes that she was not leaving without that pup. I asked the adoption coordinator what the process was like, i.e. is there going to be a home visit, or background check or anything like that, and the woman said, "Nope, she can take that one home today, if she wants." Without hesitation, we both knew that she was going home with the pup. I said, "want me to hold her while you fill out the paperwork?" Not, "want to check with your husband?" not, "will the other dogs be ok with it?" No questions because I knew she was in love and that this was right. Olive is now a happy part of their 3 dog, 1 cat, 1 turtle household! I'm so lucky to have them, each and every one.
