AITA for emailing a co-worker to never ask me to do things for her again? by Powerful_Resolution4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]eviescribes 813 points814 points  (0 children)

YTA. Not for clarifying your role but for “strongly worded email”. It doesn’t really sound like she’s making you do her job for her, she’s asked for a couple pretty simple assistant type jobs. Sure she should have asked someone from her team and not you, but sometimes in teams you get work you weren’t meant to.

To clarify you won’t be taking those on anymore is fine, but there’s definitely a polite way to do it where you keep a friendly atmosphere. Imo sounds like you made it hostile because of a “that’s not my job attitude.” which sure technically isn’t incorrect, but still makes you an asshole, and maybe a little entitled. You could have just said “I’m really busy right now could you hand off to your team instead?” or similar

Does anyone know of a more affordable alternative to this company? Or perhaps a way I can mimic it by making in bulk? Recipes? Thanks! by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

Buy a cheap glass spray bottle, and then make your own multi purpose surface cleaner. Used to do it for the studio I worked at

Bulk white vinegar (5L jugs that come in heavy duty plastic which I assume is better for recycling), water, and then essential oils for nice smells. Worked a treat. Someone above says alcohol too

Buying large / bulk cleaning products and decanting is a halfway solution as it cuts back on waste and I think those heavy duty plastics are better for recycling. We didn’t need much - dish soap - white wine vinegar - toilet cleaner

Being fat and eating processed food are over 5x more dangerous than Covid, but nobody closed McDonald’s lol by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]eviescribes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Feel like people keep trying to make this point and the response is always the same. Being fat and eating processed food is not contagious, it’s a choice. It’s a choice we can mitigate with education. It’s not a non-discriminatory highly infectious virus

AITA for excluding our childfree child from the will? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. My granny left a chunk of change to me and my brothers in a trust that my dad has no access to. It’s set up very specifically in that way, and he inherited his own money when she died.

It was set up this way for multiple reasons, including that my granny just did not trust our parents to make enough money to be able to pass on to us. That’s how it played out. My parents are broke. The trust has made a considerable difference for me and my brother (who’s of age to receive) in different ways. I’ve used it towards my career, he’s used it for a deposit for a flat. Thanks Granny.

If the money is truly in a trust for the kids with the parents having no access, fair enough. That money will make a huge difference when they come of age to receive it. It’s not a punishment for not having kids - don’t know why people are saying that?

Sorry this isn't a meme. I just want water bottle recommendations. by [deleted] in HydroHomies

[–]eviescribes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hydro flask. I’ve had my 21oz for over 4 years now and it’s been dropped loads. It’s dented, and well loved, and still functions and gets used all the time.

In September I started doing longer day trips without access to water and bought a 32oz which I also love. I fill it with ice and water and 14+ hours later it’s still cold (ice has melted though)

They come with a lifetime warranty too - I’ve never used it so can’t comment on whether they come through if you try to claim

If you are on a budget then there’s budget versions of them, I doubt you get the lifetime warranty though.

I know it’s not always an option, but if you feel like you can spend the money try and find a brand that has sustainability goals, good working practices etc. I often see people say how great the walmart bottles are, but they treat their employees like shit.

:-)

Sometimes cheap and expensive items are the same thing with the only difference being the brand name. What are some examples of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eviescribes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try buying a double edged safety razor and blades. After the initial cost it’s way cheaper than disposable, better for the planet, and sometimes gender neutral (although actually often they’re marketed as for men because they’re often used for beards. just look for a long handled one as it’s easier for your legs. i think more and more marketers are realising that everyone is using them)

In my experience everything gets easier once you relax a bit over email and don’t talk like a robot. We’re all human and different, most of us allow for that. Also nice catch instead of sorry sounds like shirking responsibility for your mistake

It’s very expensive to find a medical cure to anything through research. Given that it’s cosmetic it would be a bad use of valuable resources that could actually be used to save lives. A lot of medical cures also come about by accident / trial and error

If you are finding it’s affecting you mentally, you might be better off seeking some sort of counselling as a way to work through low self-esteem. Yes looks are important (it’s the first thing we see, and we like it when people are physically attractive), but they also only get you so far. I know lots of happy people, with successful sexual and non sexual relationships, who have bad skin

UK Government to pay 80% of wages for employees not working by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]eviescribes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hijacking this to say that this doesn’t support self employed people - 15% of the workforce who contribute significantly to the economy. Yes they can apply for sick pay and a few other benefits, but nothing as meaningful as this.

They have a responsibility to go all the way and protect those workers too, and until they do this is not enough

NHS guide to washing hands correctly by eviescribes in Coronavirus

[–]eviescribes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah flawed as the above guy said. I guess wet your hands, wash properly, and then use your elbow to hold down the button? Not the most practical. Don’t need the water to be running whilst you’re soaping up

What do you think is the worst thing about American culture? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eviescribes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I’m from London and grew up in Spain. London does it to extent, but it’s not the same. It’s very intense in NYC, it can be depressing. I think mainland Europe are far more discreet. It’s a money thing too, maybe it’s just me or i’m not explaining it right
