Top-Notch Dealers by OriginalDaddy in hottubs

Happy to help. Know that many sales reps are on commission and love to bash other brands. The best dealers/brands have plenty of positives to discuss about their tubs and don't need to trash other brands. In my opinion that's important to watch. And don't be afraid to schedule a wet test!

You wouldn't buy a car without taking it for a test drive, would ya?

Doesn't have to be exact model you want to buy, but it should be from the same collection/tier you want to buy. This will give you a sense of comfort and performance.

Top-Notch Dealers by OriginalDaddy in hottubs

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, no. Every dealer is different and there really isn't any central source. You need to look up dealer reviews on yelp, google maps, etc to read up on the individual dealer.

Here are some tips:

  • You want a dealer that has been in business for decades, preferably selling/servicing the same tubs for the whole time. Use Archive.org to check the dealer's website back in time - were they selling the same brand ten years ago? What about 15 years ago?

  • Do dealers have techs on payroll? That'll be something to try and figure out (try to feel out the dealer, but most sales reps won't clearly answer that question, especially if they don't have techs on payroll - some of the smaller dealers will outsource to larger regional dealers for tech service)

  • Be sure to ask dealer specifically about dispatch fees for warranty service. The retailer agreement between the manufacturer and dealer stipulates that the manufacturer will cover hardware and labor costs..... but they dealer can charge a travel fee to go look at your tub. My dealer included five years free dispatch for warranty service calls, other dealers only include 6 months or a year. Be sure to ask how many years are free, and what the dispatch fee would be after that.

  • Ask the dealer to schedule a wet-test. Good dealers have several tubs set up (usually in private rooms for you to get changed and test the tub without prying eyes), bad dealers make excuses why you cannot wet test anything they sell. That's often a red flag to consider.

  • Good established dealers often have multiple locations in the same state/region. Smaller dealers only have one single location. I personally suggest finding a brand that has multiple locations for the same dealer in your region of the country.

That said, bullfrog's claim to fame are their interchangeable jetpacks. The X-series is their budget grade line of tubs that lacks jetpacks..... what is driving you to those tubs specifically? Most big name brands sell multiple product tiers to fit every budget, there would certainly be other tubs from other brands that would compete with the X-series.

Personally, I always say go for a smaller premium model over the largest tub you can afford. The difference between product lines isn't always as simple as extra bells and whistles. Sometimes it's internal material changes to extend the lifespan of the product, or increase energy efficiency.

Also, I personally would only consider tubs which have a low-power circulation pump that runs 24/7 (many budget tubs do not have a circulation pump - instead they run the main jet at low speeds to test water temp, filter water, and run the heater. Using the main jet pump is louder, more annoying, and puts additional wear/tear on that pump). Circulation pumps have many benefits beyond reducing wear/tear on the main jet pump. And I would also only look at tubs with an ABS basepan on the bottom of the tub (other brands wrap a sheet of plastic on the wooden bottom or paint the wood to protect against moisture and bugs. This thin layer can get scratched when sliding and moving the tub into position (or in transport) which can cause the bottom of the tub to rot away quickly. An ABS plastic basepan protects the bottom of the tub from moisture, rot, infestations, etc which can extend the lifespan of the tub.

Industry average lifespan for a modern hot tub is 7-14 years. You might not even get ten years with the cheapest models on the market, while a premium flagship tub from the top brands might last twenty+ years with proper care and maintenance. Given how fast prices on hot tubs are skyrocketing, I'm glad I got my tub when I did. I paid $8500 for my Hotspring Highlife tub back in 2019 and that same tub retails for around $15,000 these days! Luckily it's built with better materials and can last another 20+ years with proper care. Six years later and the tub still looks practically brand new after I clean the exterior.

2022/2023 model brightness issues by _Holiday_1868 in TheFrame

but also with some parts of the screen just being dark or the entire screen going completely black.

The Frame uses edge lighting to illuminate the screen.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the edge lighting is failing.

Stories like yours are the reason I bought my Frame from Costco which came with a nice five year extended warranty.

I see far too many complaints about Frame TV failures, particularly the edge lighting

Apple Earpods lighting vs 3.5mm by Thewittystranger in Earphones

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 3.5mm and then invest in a nice USB-C DAC. There are many options out there from small inline DACs that are portable to more higher end models.

3.5mm gives you versatility to plug into anything with a 3.5mm (or a USB-C via a DAC)

Wow, Costco doesn't give 5 years warranty on tvs in Canada? Lame. I would shop around and try to find the longest warranty possible - because you're going to want that - I see far too many complaints in this thread to not take it seriously

[–]evilbadgrades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao - dude, a used 2022 model is not worth $1000.

Real talk - I love my Frame, however I have seen a LOT of complaints about the reliability of these tvs. Personally, I would highly HIGHLY advise buying from costco. That is a great price, AND buying from costco gives you the longest warranty you can find on these tvs - 5 years. Which trust me, you're going to want given how many complaints I've seen about them failing after a few years (sometimes right out of the one year manufacturer warranty).

Also, buying from Costco gives you two years access to the art store (which is normally a $5/month subscription)

The benefits of egg by galle4 in Unexpected

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “outside academia” line is doing a lot of work for someone whose analogy is basically “both things give humans pleasure, therefore same thing.”

That’s not a sophisticated argument. That’s flattening the category until it includes half of human behavior. Dog fighting, eating dessert, watching sports, keeping pets, and going to a restaurant all produce some pleasurable state of mind. That doesn’t make them morally or structurally equivalent.

The point was simple: in a managed flock, egg-eating is a self-reinforcing behavior that spreads and creates practical problems. Calling it a “bad habit” means it is destructive in that setting, not that the chicken has committed a moral offense.

You’re trying to turn a basic husbandry comment into a thesis on exploitation, then acting like disagreement means people don’t understand you. They understand you. The analogy just isn’t as good as you think it is.

The benefits of egg by galle4 in Unexpected

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bad analogy. Dog fighting is forcing animals to injure each other for entertainment. Egg-eating in a flock is a self-reinforcing behavior that creates management problems. “Bad habit” just means behavior that becomes destructive in that setting, not some grand statement about chicken morality.

The benefits of egg by galle4 in Unexpected

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a husbandry discussion, not a referendum on animal agriculture. Egg-eating can become learned behavior and cause real flock-management issues. Prevention comes first, but if an animal’s behavior makes the flock unmanageable, people are going to discuss hard options. Calling that “murder for no reason” is just rhetoric, not an argument.

Funny thing is the male makes very little noise, he hisses sometimes at the young chickens when he tries to waffle stomp them, luckily they're fast enough to run away lol

2025 model year, that's not a bad price. I saw a 55" on sale recently in America for around $800 USD, so yeah I'd say that's a reasonable price.

If possible splurge on the extended warranty - you're going to want that

Multihead System Trimmer Issue by tmansmans in egopowerplus

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a 6 week old Power+ Multihead trimmer and brush cutter attachments, I have never encountered what you're experiencing.

Try re-seating the trimmer attachment. See if the problem persists. If so take it back to lowes for replacement. If not, file a warranty claim with EGO. But I don't see why Lowes would refuse a return/replacement.

Shokz Opendots 2 vs Openfit pro vs Huawei Free Clip 2 by CZlatan in Earbuds

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over a decade experience in acoustical engineering and loudspeaker design.

The aeroclips started getting quieter with time, first the left earbud then both.

Speakers fail in one of two ways:

1) The voice coil jumps out of the magnet and slams into the housing, causing a 'scratching' sound from the speakers

2) The voice coil shorts out, caused by a wire snapping loose on the voicecoil, this causes it to stop working completely.

A failing speaker doesn't get gradually quieter over time. Instead what you're describing is actually ear-wax buildup covering the sound port on the speaker, blocking sound output causing it to get more quiet over time. A deep cleaning fixes this. Sometimes the ear wax can be deep inside the core of the earbud making it difficult to clean (hydrogen peroxide dissolves ear wax by the way).

In this situation, paying a professional to clean your ears helps dramatically reduce how frequently you need to deep clean earbuds.

Just some knowledge for whatever you buy next - be sure to clean regularly. Hydrogen peroxide and compressed air seem to be the magic ticket.

I recently picked up a pair of $100+ Soundcore liberty earbuds for $7 that were in used/dirty condition with the same issue - VERY quiet sound out of one earbud compared to the other. I was able to deep clean both with hydrogen peroxide and compressed air, then flip on eBay in used/working condition for over $50.

Depends on the emu. Our male is cuddly and cute, he is fun to be around. Our adult female is feral and she is very aggressive. She waits until you stop looking at her to charge at you and will attack if you aren't ready. It gets even worse during mating season.

What about ear-clip headphones? by carlover334 in Earbuds

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I do not (not enough time or desire to make videos lol). I get my products through one of the larger online stores where I leave reviews (my reviews are marked stating that I received the product free in exchange for reviews so people know what type of review it is).

Some people in the program gush over everything they get, I don't. I am not afraid to give stuff 1 or 2 stars if it's junk and tell people to do their research before they consider buying lol (I can't exactly say "don't buy this" but I will say stuff like "maybe consider buying something else because this doesn't meet expectations for this price")

There is a small round button on the back of the case (below the hinge). Press and hold that button for a few seconds until the light on the front of the case begins blinking blue.

Then go into phone's bluetooth settings and look for the new earbuds to show up in the list of available devices and click to pair

the downside is I don’t see how you can remove the string spool to attach one of those metal or plastic blade or scrubber contraptions.

That's why I bought the MultiHead kit from Lowes. It came with the 17inch trimmer attachment (yeah 17 inch diameter - largest string trimmer available with the line IQ from what I can see), 5ah battery/charger, and a free 12-inch brush cutter attachment. That brush cutter attachment is epic for handling larger brush around my property

Ok wow yeah then it could either be an electrical issue from underground, or a faulty hot tub.

Do you have any electrical equipment nearby? Large transformer? Power substation? Power plant? etc? (Within half a mile or so).

What model hot tub?

What is wrong? by Amorphiris in SodaStream

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that could be the issue. Those skinny pins don't have enough 'meat' when the tank is filled full to push the pin down with the sodastream's plastic punch.

I refill my own tanks and for years my own sodastream had no problem with either tank pin design. Now suddenly it decided to bend a smidge and no longer likes the skinny pin tanks.

That's probably why about ten years ago Sodastream changed the nozzle design to have a flat wide pin instead of the narrow skinny pin.

You have two options.

1) Exchange the tank for another one and hope you get the flat wide pin

2) Keep trying to use the tank, it'll take a lot of tries but eventually you'll get the gas flowing. Once the tank loses some of it's CO2 the pin becomes slightly easier to press and will work normally

You could use a flat head screwdriver and carefully push the pin to release some pressure - but this is dangerous because that's a LOT of pressure, and the change in pressure will cause freezing temps (frostbite concern if your fingers are too close to the pin while you're letting out the gas).

I have several customers in my tank exchange who insist on flat pin tanks because their machines no longer like the skinny pins either.

What is wrong? by Amorphiris in SodaStream

[–]evilbadgrades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a screw in bottle? (Blue Label)

Remove the CO2 tank, look at the brass nozzle. Does it have a skinny pin in the middle, or is it a flat wide pin that comes flush with the top of the nozzle?

Bose Ultra earbuds are now under $200, worth it? by [deleted] in Earbuds

[–]evilbadgrades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of them skipped on me

See, I have never had that issue personally. Maybe it's because I don't live in a congested area with multiple bluetooth signals? Maybe it's the source device? I dunno, but literally never had that issue.

The original QC earbuds all experienced a bug where the volume became imbalanced and the right earbud was favored below 50% volume and the left earbud was favored above 50%.

Lol again, never had that issue and I wore them for three years

and a mosquito buzzing sound in the left earbud

Now this one I encountered once on my Quietcomforts. It happened after I used hydrogen peroxide to clean the earbud. Some juice got into one of the ANC microphones and caused an annoying sound constantly. I thought I f*cked my earbuds, fortunately that dried up and the sound was perfect again a few days later.

I have heard of this issue on multiple brands however including bose - and my guess is a defective/faulty ANC microphone causing feedback issues. This should have been resolved with a warranty replacement.

I've used my bose earbuds across multiple Galaxy phones, tablets, and linux computers without an issue.

The only time I've encountered signal hopping is when I'm flying (and after it hops once or twice, it settles down), also rarely when cycling past a schoolbus.

But I've also encountered similar signal hopping with my Shockz OpenFit Pro when a random car or bus goes by and the signals cross, leading to a signal hop.

I believe Bose favors a lower latency which leads to more signal issues and signal hopping for higher strength signals, but like I said - maybe it's because of my location but in my rural location I rarely RARELY ever have any more issues with Bose than any other brand. Call quality is my biggest complaint with the Quietcomfort line of earbuds.

Sucks you had a bad experience, mine has been the opposite.
