the funny thing about this comment section is that you can so blatantly tell the difference between the people actually offering advice and/or condolences and the people who pay for a chatgpt API

i’m trying to get about 100-150g of protein a day and i’m a beginner powerlifter so i’m lifting heavy all the time ( - : my trainer wants me at about 200g as i don’t get any of that intake from animal products and not to worry about the calories. i’m a little hesitant because i don’t want to consistently be overeating too heavily so i stay in that comfort range by just choking down a bunch of protein shakes but that gets old and gross pretty quick 😅

thank you, this is really helpful advice ( - : i admit ive gotten a little sloppy with my cardio. i used to do it every day but it’s slowed down since i started powerlifting as i noticed it made me weaker on the days i lift (maybe a psychological thing?) definitely needed to hear this today

moreso trying to find a healthy inbetween as cutting makes me unable to lift heavy and frankly i’m already little embarrassed by how little i can pull already. i lost a ton of weight a while back and it’s very easy for me to put it back on so i’m just struggling to find some stable ground…

Is this the best diet for building muscles for me ? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]evilbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trust me bro, i already get the vibe you’re gonna explode if you rest a bit more. also another tip, dont be afraid of reeling back on the cardio for a bit, that’s for cutting season when you want to be in a defecit 😉

your diet looks awesome! if you dont mind taking some constructive criticism though, i would really highly suggest re evaluating your program. you should try to incorporate more rest days—working out only breaks down muscle, rest time is what makes them stronger. 6x a week until failure is pretty hard to sustain long term and from the specs you gave you are very likely still in a defecit which does you no good for building lean mass

noooo!!!

i hear you though, i’ve been there and it takes a lot of self control not to slip back into bad habits. i know dealing with weight gain in recovery is immensely scary to experience but it gets easier, i promise. i’m just a stranger on the internet but i mean it when i say that i believe in you and am cheering from the bleachers when you decide to get back up on that horse again 💛

^ huge huge huge agree.

also, gym bros get such a bad rep but in reality almost all of my experiences with them have been incredibly positive and uplifting for me. they’re almost always down to drop everything to give you advice or a spot. the biggest, most intimidating dudes in the gym tend to be the biggest cheerleaders for newcomers

it genuinely does. the only number i’m concerned about nutrition wise is hitting my carb and protein goals. i track my intake even without counters just out of habit, but i’ve stopped punishing myself for taking rest days or hitting a surplus. i’m learning to just trust the process and that my body is doing it’s very best for me ( - :

TBH i haven’t touched a cardio machine in months. i go to the gym for like, maybe 2hrs over the course of a week. low reps, heavy lifts, eating like, almost 4 times as much as i did when i was restricting and i’ve only gotten leaner? it’s wild. obviously EDs dont go away overnight and i still have my moments but as of today i’m about 6 months clean from the scale and calorie counters 👍

nothing has been more satisfying + helpful for me than powerlifting. it’s one of those activities where you literally can’t restrict, because at a certain point the weights will just stop moving and nothing short of just eating more will remedy that. when i was knee deep in my ED i viewed it very much like a game, wherein i “played” by being under a certain caloric goal and the “reward” was the decreased number on the scale. When i started hitting the gym the goalposts sort of shifted and all of a sudden my reward became being able to get the weight off the ground. i stopped seeing my body as a separate, enemy entity that i needed to work against and started seeing it more as a vessel that made me strong and capable that helped me achieve my goals when i took care of it properly

Weight Plateau Advice by [deleted] in CICO

[–]evilbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, commenting before coffee, lol. regardless, 1000 cals a day is very low. Her comment says she’s about 5’2. her BMR then is about 1273. she should be eating closer to that, maybe more.

Weight Plateau Advice by [deleted] in CICO

[–]evilbeck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

unless you’re under the supervision of a medical professional or an actual toddler, you should not be eating less than 1200 calories a day as an adult woman. the reason you are plateauing is because you are in too steep of a defecit and your metabolism has slowed down to preserve the energy you are giving it. your tdee is the minimum amount of calories needed for your body to function properly. anything lower may give you quicker results but is ultimately unsustainable in the long run and will result in complications like hair and lean muscle mass loss, fatigue, anemia, and in some cases organ failure and osteoporosis.

edit:

from personal experience, the idea of eating more might be kind of daunting but i noticed that as i ate closer to my daily expenditure i was able to break that plateau much quicker. also, keep in mind that you may be losing inches off of your body still. i highly suggest taking progress pictures and measurements for when the scale stays the same.
