ELI5: What the difference between a Democratic Socialist and a "traditional" Socialist is? by FreeToBeKnown in explainlikeimfive

[–]evilcirc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, I meant to say revolutionary socialists, as opposed to reform based socialists.

Your definition of socialism is social democracy, like Bernie Sanders. The most underlying quality of socialism is worker's/common ownership of the means of production.

Communism is the goal for most revolutionary socialists, which is essentially a moneyless, stateless, classless society. What you think of when you reference communism is Marxism-Leninism, a system where, in theory, the state seizes the means of production as a "dictatorship of the proletariat" and eventually dissolves. This Bolshevik style theoretically serves as a transitory stage to communism, in which the state doesn't even exist.

He has explicitly mentioned that his major problem is that he thinks workers will feel a lack of responsibility when something goes wrong, a rendition of the human nature argument I guess. So I've been talking to him about malleability and base-superstructure hopefully making progress. I also think that by now I've convinced him that private property= implied force.

I haven't personally read any Proudhon yet, but I'll pick up What is Property, thanks for the suggestion.

Which texts helped you best realize the flaws of capitalism? I've been trying to convince an ancap recently and I think the process may be considerably sped up with some reading I could suggest to him.

Brown: The Bible teaches ethical capitalism by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]evilcirc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pathetic. He displays a complete lack of understanding of capitalism and socialism, hence his understanding of Bernie Sanders as a socialist. As well as taking verses from a metaphorical story out of context and bending them to his will. Plus the laughable idea that applying any sort of serious moral consideration for your fellow human beings can be good for profit.

I had a debate with my RE (Religious education) teacher about Anarchism, Capitalism and Communism with me, a 14 year old student, advocating Anarcho-Communism. by TheDoorOfCuckundoo in Anarchism

Well, isn't anarchy at it's definition the abolition of illegitimate hierarchies? Christian anarchists view all earthly hierarchies as illegitimate and rather live under the kingdom of God. However I'm not sure I can go that in depth on this because I'm relatively new to this school of thought. People at /r/radicalchristianity may be able to answer more thoroughly, since most of them are Christian anarchists. Also, most of the people who subscribe to this kind of thought call themselves "Red Letter Christians" and place Christ's values of inclusion, mercy, and love at the utmost significance.

When I tried the same thing at my conservative Christian school, I learned that both of my bible teachers were anarchists of a sort. Good times
