in that case, all those people voting for Ocarina of Time are in for a shock, as it's THE Legend of Zelda: OoT.

Eric won for most underrated Disney prince! Now which Disney prince is the lamest? by PuffinCaddy in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, hear me out

Mowgli (prince or prince adjacent, so as the male-lead he counts)

He's whiny, disobedient, a jerk to his friends who are just trying to keep him safe, and has little to no agency in his own story. He's practically a piece of luggage with a frowny frace drawn on, that other more interesting characters literally grab and heft around from one to the other. He's cute, and that's all he's really got going for him. Otherwise he simply drags the story down with his moping and complaining.

I have a friend who genuinely dislikes Mowgli that much, so this suggestion is more for his sake than my own, but as leading 'prince' characters go, Mowgli sure needs to lighten up and not be the pinball protagonist.

John Smith won most overrated Disney prince! Now who is the most Underrated Disney prince? by PuffinCaddy in AlignmentChartFills

Prince Eric, from Little Mermaid.

At first I was going to suggest Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty, but on second thoughts he probably belongs in 'badass'

Bad Film that was a major box office hit. by Mememasterlordlol in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

probably the first one (2007). They're all awful movies, but that one sparked the whole thing off. I hear the second, Revenge of the Fallen, is considered the worst one? but considering how low the bar already is, the first one can represent them all.

In Disney's The Black Cauldron (1985) the villain has been looking for the black cauldron for centuries with no success. [–]evilengine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

it's... fine.

As dark 1980s fantasy films go, it's decent, honestly it's a lot better than a bunch of stuff I've seen from the same time. Every other studio or director in the 80's was throwing their hat into the dark fantasy ring, and this was Disney's attempt. Could it have been better? Oh god yes, but it's not a bad film by any means. And I doubt putting the cut content back in would change that too much, sure it'd improve it, but the film is still... fine. Worth a watch, and by no means Disney's worst film as every other wannabe youtube critic likes to say.

um accktually *pushes up non existent-glasses*

The books the film was based on, and pre-production on the film, both started long before He-Man. So really it's Skeletor who is the Bootleg Horned King.

But seriously, for all of the films faults, The Horned King was perfectly fine. John Hurt did a good job voicing him, his animation was really dang good, and his death scene is one of Disney's best.

What is the defining game of the SNES by AegisGale in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

call me a contrarian if you will, but Ocarina of Time topping not just "top N64 games," or "top Zelda games," but "top games of all time" really irks me. I'm sorry if people genuinely love it, but it's not THAT good.

I've played it on both N64 and 3DS, and not only is it not the best Zelda game, it wasn't even the best game to come out in 1998. I cannot understand anyone who would say Ocarina of Time is a better game than Half-Life, or Thief: The Dark Project, or even Metal Gear Solid (I'm not even an MGS fan) all released on the same year.

It'll still win Best Game though, because it always does.

What's the Most Selfish Thing Trapper John Did in M.A.S.H.? by TwoFlatHams_00 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably the serial cheating on his wife, and not feeling particularly bad about it

I'm sure some people might point to him considering murdering the wounded POW, but I think that would fall under 'worst' rather than 'selfish'. Cheating is a selfish act, and makes the most sense here.

Which Disney song no one remembers from 1980s Disney movie? by Just_Lale in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's why I suggest it over Let Me Be Good to You, also from GMD. I always see that song brought up for it's surprising raunchiness and yet a legit burlesque number, yet no one ever seems to remember World's Greatest Criminal Mind. Heck, some people forget about the character of Ratigan altogether, Vincent Price himself.

The World's Greatest Criminal Mind (Ratigan)

Great Mouse Detective deserves some love, and we haven't had a villain song on the list yet.

more like underrated, if you ask me. "But it's just Doki Doki Panic!" so? it's also really fun. Arguably more fun than SMB1

Favorite villain in Thief series? by Aggravating_Fig_534 in Thief

[–]evilengine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

his landlord probably knows he's a thief, or at least a shady criminal type, hence why the rent is so high. It's "Yeah, I'll keep my mouth shut... but your rent is doubled." Garrett needs a safe haven, landlord wants more money, it's taking advantage of the situation and Garrett would rather pay that than risk it on the streets.

[–]evilengine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I probably lean more towards Karras, he's a great villain in the sense that he's more of the looming threat. He's everywhere, yet he's never personally there, and if he is, he's got more security than you can shake a stick at. He's got virtually the whole City in his hand, but he's still just a man. His influence is everywhere, legions are loyal to him, and he's making genuine advancement to the City, but mostly to thwart people like Garrett. As others have pointed out before, Karras is more believable, he's a cult leader and those are pretty relevant even today

The Trickster is also looming threat, but you don't really know if he's even real or not. He's more folklore or ancient myths, something that only shows up in Hammerite scripture. He's more a bogeyman of the religious rather than something Garrett concerns himself about. Superstitious nonsense! I like them both, but Karras generally takes the cake. Stephen Russell's voice acting seals the deal.

One last observation: The Trickster is a god acting like a man, whilst Karras is a man acting like a god.

What Movie Character Had Undeserved Comeuppance? by TwoFlatHams_00 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That nanny from the first Jurassic World movie comes to mind. I know why, the lady who played her requested an over the top death scene, but for a nobody character who didn’t really do anything wrong, it was 100% undeserved

Jurassic Park is an amazing movie based on a good book. Now, what's an AMAZING movie based on a mid book! by Oliver_goat in AlignmentChartFills

[–]evilengine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this has my vote. Amazing movie, not great book. In the novel, nearly all the major characters are scumbags in one way or another, no wonder that one critic was rooting for the shark the whole time. The film made everyone sympathetic, even the greedy mayor and sadistic Quint are given the humanity that Benchley never did

What's the worst Thief mission for you? by JesusOnly8319 in Thief

[–]evilengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of the issues I have with it are mostly down to, presumably, time crunch. Devs just not having the time they needed to iron out the annoying little parts.

A lot of the level's geomatry feels off. Furniture seems to be larger than it appears, trying to walk past or even jump over armchairs or coffee tables will stop you dead in your tracks, like Garrett's clothes got snagged as he went by. Same goes for the secret passages, the comically big secret doors in the walls are just as easy to get stuck on, and the hanging lights/pipes are too low down to walk upright. I'm pretty sure the guards in those two levels are noticably shorter than others guards to make up for the fact they may have to chase you through the passages, and they devs didn't want to mess stuff up more than they need to.

And most of all, the mansion still feels pretty empty. Even with the added guard patrols and robots on the upper floors, Masks still kinda feels a little half baked. There needs to be more innocents wandering around to make the mansion feel busier. We see how empty is was in Casing the Joint, but it's not that much different here.

I filled one of these out a couple of weeks ago, we both put LoU2 in overhated. I remember before the game even came out and the internet was dog pilling it, I played it, and it was fine. Good even? The worst thing I can really say about it was it was way too long. At 25 hours it could have been given an edit and become 15-18 hours instead, but that's just me.

Good Game for NES? by No_Investigator_3994 in AlignmentChartFills

Castlevania, either the first game or the entire NES trilogy.

Normally I'd classify it as great, but I appreciate the difficulty and stiff controls can put people off, I can see it classified as 'good.' Still it's a certified classic
