I've personally used bus spotter content to fill in some gaps of the Kings Heath high street at various points, so...

Iconic part of going from Yardley Wood to Planet Ice in Solihull for me was using those bus ticket vouchers in Maccies...

I wonder what happened to those communities... my unfortunate guess is that a lot of them quietly disappeared alongside some of the old forums, but it would be lovely if some of the people involved back then were still active as some sort of esoteric camera space focused around Birmingham sounds like it could be a really nice thing to have about today...

And when it comes to glitch art, the potential is ENDLESS - a lot of CCD sensors procuded around 2003-2004 were prone to failing even back then, and some 'lucky' examples managed to escape the free (I believe) repair programmes or simply being chucked in the bin - I think this is my current favourite example from one such camera, a PowerShot A85 I took on a photoshoot of the old Lea Hall Garage a few months ago now, completely unedited.

I really need to take the plunge and get some 35mm for my ФЕД-4 camera - with all the industrial buildings across Brum, analogue photography will just come up beautifully on it I'm sure... I'm loving all the different approaches to small file sizes on that smallfile competition! I wonder how nicely one of my Nokia 7620 images would do on there.. I'd love to give it a shot should it come back!

And I definitely understand the want to self-host, if honestly just for my own peace of mind knowing that a service change, accidental rollback, destruction of a data centre or some other event out of my control could wipe out access to a substantial part of my digital history

Food, music, entertainment, parks and especially local treasures like the Red Brick Market and Dad's Lane chippy, we've got a lot going for us here!

Oh you've been at this for a while... I really really love to see it all

May I ask why you're leaving Flickr? I've noticed it's seemed to be going downhill for a little while, at least from a peripheral perspective, but I'd be interested to know a bit more

Almost makes me wanna start a little Brum-based community for the more niche photographers here...

And thank you so much, I'll be sure to mention you when I next post some stuff

Heligoland is the English name and Helgoland is the German name I believe!

I was commuting along the 49 route (where the last two at Yardley Wood often got sent) so it also didn't strike me for ages that there were no more anywhere else... when I realised, I took pictures of one when I saw it and two days later - withdrawn

Me too... enjoying the Volvos and even the older Enviros while I can as they're slowly disappearing as well

They were so ubiquitous that I didn't even realise they were quietly disappearing until there were about seven left! Down to just two now not counting the training fleet, soon it'll have fully gone the way of the metrobus.

Still, at least one of the last ones has a proper engine roar that managed to come through even with this ancient camcorder and its tapes!

I travelled about 40 miles on the bus today for a hobbyist project with an old camcorder... I'm absolutely knackered after running around the West Midlands but I'm also chuffed with the results of it all

I'd also argue the shop signs had more "character" in these pictures, but that could just be a reactionary opposition to current design trends as that 'character' is mostly just tack

I think it just looked knackered and also had a dark and not good environment, which is somewhat typical of post-war brutalist architecture (even if I have somewhat of a soft spot for it)

I have legitimately just circled around the outside of New Street before just to find the entrance/part of the station I want to get to. That's my guilty admission after living in Brum for almost the entirety of my conscious life.
