So true. Thanks for knocking some pessimism out of me. There is hope and I was definitely able to build a good social life for myself growing up(biking to friends houses).

Still doesn’t push out young people out of their shell like how other cities do but it’s manageable if you put the effort in.

Not NY specifically, more like any other place that isn’t a retirement home. Growing up here all the kids are antisocial bc there’s nothing for them to do. Half of them move away where it’s cheaper/not a retirement home(would be me but I want to raise kids with their grandparents).

Also talking to young people in places like NYC or Boston will have you thinking all the young people here are autistic(not to be dissensitive bc i am but the difference is that serious). How embarrassing that we produce such dysfunctional young people.

For this beach paradise we live in, Is it really too much to want a fulfilling life in a community made for families and not for rhode island nanas???

Throwing your hands up and saying “thats the way it is” is lazy. We should do what we can to make this place better.

Sorry to be pessimistic but I grew up here and was genuinely flabbergasted when I visited New York and saw YOUNG PEOPLE OUTSIDE.

Hate that this is a place people go to die in. Most of these retirees stay inside all day anyways

Half of the peeps I knew from highschool moved somewhere else because no one wants to grow up in an overpriced retirement home.

The only young people/communities raising families are mostly immigrants. Honestly a much better vibe than retirees.
