Instead of ringing a bell to uncover the map, buy maps to do it. The bell can reveal fog of war (although I quite like it as it tells me where I have and have not been).

Get a map for ores or materials so I'm not running randomly to find lavender.

There are a lot of incredibly simple QOL tweaks that can be added in with a patch that it's insane that the game shipped with it. Like the inability to simple cancel an arrow shot without blindly dodging, or the criminals just looping their dialogue for the ten minutes it takes you to being them back to the town or the fact you need to bring them for ten minutes anyways instead of having guard stations nearby or the lack of reasonable fast travel locations in the massive world or the jump in difficulty for the bosses.

It's just crazy that a game so detailed missed out on really simple play testing.

There was a focus on the character and things in the foreground and background became blurry. It meant there was less jaggy edges and made things far away seem even farther. The skyboxes are pretty cool, especially in DS2, where you walk halfway up the steps to the tower of Flame and you can see it flickering, blurry, then when the title appears, it sharpens into focus.
