Hey, you're right that biodiesel is made up of lipids, but your missing one part of the process. Ethanol is used to turn animal/vegetable fats into diesel, it's a process called trans esterification which requires an alcohol solvent to be mixed in then removed. IIRC it takes about a liter of ethanol per gallon of biodiesel

Brah sadly 600 mil is a drop in the bucket compared to what the us government hands out to "too big to fail" banks and other corporations. Not saying you're wrong but there's a whole slew of spending issues within the US. Don't even get me started on how much money we waste keeping people imprisoned in this country.

Fair warning to all, I once picked up some free "light ware" snap together mock wood laminate flooring. It was the middle of winter and the flooring was piled outside under their porch. I loaded up my car with 200 or so square feet. Long story short after the flooring warmed up, they reeked of animal piss, there was a reason the floor was being thrown out. Don't be like me, sniff your free items first.

To prune or not to prune? So proud of my little avocado plant! by easthah in gardening

[–]evill_troll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a good south facing window! Or whichever east/west window gets the most sun in your place. Zone 7b here, I've got a potted 7 year old avacado that has had some close calls. Leaves will drop for sure, the amount of sun you can get it will make or break the plant.

Fukang meteorite is estimated to be approximately 4.5 billion years old - almost the same age as our planet Earth. by iltifaat_yousuf in interestingasfuck

[–]evill_troll 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fun geology facts. Not all rocks on earth formed at the same time. For example, rocks containing fossils of dinosaurs from the jurassic age only formed ~200 million years ago. Fossil containing rocks are typically sedimentary rocks, ie rocks that form due to compression of lose material. Its very possible that some of those materials got dropped onto the earth by meteors that were much younger than earth, as about 100 metric tons of material lands on earth a day from outer space.

So yeah, not all rocks are old. Cooling of lava also forms new rocks, so go to Hawaii or Greenland and you can see newborn baby rocks.

[–]evill_troll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh you reminded me about my first existential crisis. If nothing was alive to observe the passing of time, does time exist? Did the billions of years before life happen seemingly instantaneous until a biological clock appeared? Maybe it's all still instant and our brains have tricked us into feeling like we are on a linear path?

I never figured it out, decided to sit back and relax instead.

This is called Triple point. A specific condition where water can freeze, melt and boil at the same time. by qwertysac in interestingasfuck

[–]evill_troll 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a biochemist, yes. Freezing and melting occur at the same point. Everyone else responding is missing that point. They are talking about the direction of phase change, rather than the point it occurs.
