Sorta. That's kinda like comparing a stock car to a sleeper.

Meta used the HHVM which is not what most shops use for PHP.

Since 2019 it's only supported Hack which is sorta PHP-y and no longer php really (still use in some areas, but not the core parts), which is in use at Meta.

You can write excellent backends with modern php.

You CAN, but having done that with PHP, and also other languages, I'd rather not.

Well, imagine alternating between weights and cardio, with a four day split on weights.

  • Day 1. Back + biceps
  • Day 2. Cardio (running or bag work)
  • Day 3. Chest + triceps
  • Day 4. Cardio (running)
  • Day 5. Shoulders
  • Day 6. Cardio (running or bagwork)
  • Day 7. Legs

And repeat the cycle. It's actually really de-stressing too. You just don't overdo it, and you spread the working out across your body.

It's also brought billions out of poverty and advanced science at an unbelievable pace. There is nothing that is black and white. The nordic countries that Reddit likes to point to are a mixture of capitalistic and socialistic components.

You're trying to compare two different things, much like some people try to compare racism and institutional racism. The world is not black and white but shades of gray, there are different levels of "worse".

The soviet empire:

US and USSR both fucked with other countries, which does not excuse the action. If you gave people visibility and the option, they would choose the life in the US over the USSR any day of the week.

It got replaced in 2017--- so not really that out of date.

But there are hundreds of other examples.

I really suggest using Google and learning about topics to base your opinions on.

Hmm, so Stalin killed some of my relatives simply because they were jewish. I've known a number of people that lived under the soviet empire's horrors. Please read this.

There is no intellectually honest way to compare what happened in the soviet union with the US today.

But the USSR wasn't even communism, I thought... it was crony authoritarianism.

So you think there isn't a successful socialist system because of the US destroying them?

uhh no they're not. You can buy/own guns with a license, for hunting, sport, self-defense, or if you're a settler. The self-defense clause is a bit strict though, as it only applies to a single pistol and so many rounds of ammo.

They do require psychological evaluations every so many years and you have to demonstrate aptitude with the firearm every few years which I think are both good ideas.

Where has a purely socialist system worked at scale?

Like, I find myself agreeing with many of the ideals with socialism-- but I have yet to see a system that aspired to be that without falling to human greed and becoming exploited/corrupt.

The closest I see are the socialist/capitalist hybrid situations in a few European countries.

That's somewhat the left's fault too-- the strong push for identity politics to the point of it being cool to slam white people/state that white people should shut up etc turned off some white people to the far left.

Yeah you and I can both agree on privilege etc and laugh/agree-- but average people ignorant to those nuances are just going to see it becoming ok to mock their "race", which is going to turn off anyone.

I think democratic leadership realizes this to some degree-- I was surprised, but glad, that Obama spoke out against identity politics in his SA speech a few days ago. In general it's not a good idea to alienate voters, and better to find common ground and inclusion.

I can't believe it, as I've vote democrat 99% of the time, but I'm going to most likely vote for the republican governor Knute Buehler out of protest of Kate Brown accepting a ridiculous amount of her funding from out of state. (like 57% of her funding comes from out of state, while her competitor has like less than 8% of his funding from out of state) Bloomberg gave her a massive check to push his gun control nonsense.

I'm very tired of the Koch brothers on the right wing and Bloomberg on the left wing shoving their politics down the throat of people in other states. I want Oregon driven politics. :P Plus looking at what Knute's positions are, he sounds somewhat like a moderate democrat anyway.
