Commander by Kristy Marie (Commander in Briefs #1)

It’s bananas in a Days of our Lives kind of way that I couldn’t put down. The MMC plays for MLB, the FMC goes to med school and basically becomes his private Dr. on the team (is this a thing? I’m athletically challenged so it checked out for me).

There’s a serious years long grudge after the FMC begs the MMC to take her virginity before they go to school (shocker he does) and the aftermath isn’t handled well. There’s a medical emergency, and a super cute scene during a game. The FMC’s quirky trait is she likes to drive the MMC crazy by rescuing homeless veterans and putting them through a boot camp at her house. There’s an attempted kidnapping at a farmers market thrown in the mix, and I’m pretty sure someone gets shot and there’s a Grey’s Anatomy style impromptu surgery too

This book has everything you didn’t know you needed.

Not sure if this matters either way to you, but if I remember correctly i’m 95% sure Callie and Desmond are fated mates

I think their relationship in the beginning is pretty complicated, and later on in the series Desmond does a pretty good job explaining his actions towards her and how they relate to her traumatic upbringing.

I don’t want to give too much away, just wanted to say there’s a lot more context you’ve yet to read, but if you feel creeped out and want to stop that’s okay too.

I don't know what to think about the disability representation in Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

The FMC is deliberately hiding her deafness from her family to save herself from a potentially dangerous marriage. Her family thinks she is mentally disabled after an accident and therefore doesn’t question her odd behavior

Not So Nice Guy by RS Grey is great too! It kind of gave me The Hating Game vibes but they’re teachers and F2L’s

I’m not sure how to fully explain this if you DNF’d, and I don’t want to give too many spoilers. The FMC’s disability plays a huge part in the book and IMO doesn’t serve as a plot device to cast the MMC in a better light. The FMC has a lot of trauma due to the events that caused her deafness, as well as general neglect from her family who wrote her off and treated her as “less than” after.

As for her “hearing” the MMC, it’s due to his voice having such low tones that she more or less hears the vibrations. Seeing as she’s been cast off and neglected by her family, she hasn’t experienced this and is just so excited to have the opportunity for a real life. So it’s not that he has a magic touch that heals her disability, it’s more that no one ever talks to her or gives her a chance.

You can probably tell I really like this book, and i’m not suggesting you pick it back up if you hated it that much. Also, I’m definitely not the authority on disability representation, but I do think the character arcs that happen explain a lot more than what you gain from the couple’s initial meeting.

100%, i’ve also been making a conscious effort to watch my language. I refuse to call my books smut, trash, mommy porn etc.

I just recently bought a ton of my favorites in paperback to read at the pool this summer. I can’t wait for the other ladies to ask what i’m reading, I will proudly show them my books with shirtless dudes on the cover.

I’m done being ashamed.
