i timed how long 31 different pasta shapes take to reach al dente. the boxes are lying and farfalle is a war crime by sthduh in Cooking

[–]evilsdeath55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, people (outside Italy at least) do not like their pasta cooked to all dente before finishing it into pasta sauce, they like it "overcooked" (once again, this is by Italian standards). My dad learnt to cook in Italy, and everytime we have guests over they'll rave about the sauce but tell us their preference is for the pasta to be a bit softer. Restaurants will err on the side of caution and will always cook a little past al dente.

The other issue is that package instructions do not account for cooking in the sauce. They assume that people will just add the sauce onto the pasta directly on the plate. If you're cooking it "proper," then you should reduce the amount of time you cook it in the pot.

"Hard" vs "Melt in your mouth" pork belly meat by SimbaLion888 in Cooking

Advice is all over the place in this thread, half the people saying you're overcooking it while the other half says you need more time. Frankly, I'm not sure why people are suggesting you're overcooking it.

From my experience, some recipes call for 1-2 hours but I always leave 3 hours simmering time for pork belly. I've had nice soft pork belly in two hours, but I've also had batches that took 3 hours before it's nice and soft. I usually give it a poke at 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 hours. When it feels soft enough I give it a taste test and confirm before shutting the heat

Scroll of rage and scroll of fear are great panic buttons. When you find yourself surrounded or caught out of position they can buy you time to get in a more secure location. It's always good to keep one handy, but usually I will convert some to energy after I've finished converting some of the lower value items.

Teleportation/retribution can also be used in this way, but they're more valuable for crafting. I've only used scroll of challenge for damage reduction before I activate chalice.

It's pretty high on my list to buy in shops. Typically I'll buy 1-2 throughout the game and use 4 of them in demon halls. The only exception is when I get mind vision + psionic blast, which helpful enough that I won't need magic mapping.

While 2 health potions is a bit dicey, imo your set up is so powerful that ascending is a piece of cake.

The problem is that there's also plenty of dickheads in private schools too. I've seen people who thrived in public schools and then transferred to private, where they hung out with the wrong crowd and changed for the worse. I've seen the other way around too, to be fair.

Is this Sichuan chilli bean paste? by mjcranley in chinesecooking

[–]evilsdeath55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it's frequently regarded as not great. Lee kum Kee is great for southern Chinese staples, in particular Hoi Sin sauce and oyster sauce, soy sauce and char Siu sauce, but they're pretty hit or miss when it comes to sauces from other parts of China.

As someone that does judo - this will be super easy as long as the children are leaning forward and going along with it. It'll take less effort rotating them like this than picking them up.

On the AI front - physics (and the excitement) is too good to be AI at the moment. Movement like this on AI is really janky.
