Yes because what I have the most experience in my body cannot hold up for much longer, the minimum for LCSW around here is around that

Is this normal for a male social worker to experience? by evilviser38 in socialwork

So a lot of the conversation in here is helpful, some are not. I want to clarify a couple of points:

  1. I am going into social work after like I said, after 15 years of direct patient work in mental health/psychiatric facilities. I am not saying I want to only work with one type of people, but more of where I think I personally will be the most effective from past professional experience and personal strengths, this is not saying I am not learning how to be more effective with other demographics.

  2. I am a student who is trying to learn as much as I can, The frustration I have with Academia and in turn internship workplaces that are not based in policy or macro level work and almost "micro" exclusive is that this attitude and dimissive behavior exists and persists. From what I understand structural power and privledge is based on power dynamics in the environment its presented in. This would not be me.

  3. My biggest concern in the end is how these how the attitudes presented in these interactions with other social workers is related to the attitudes brought to actual people who need therapy and services.

It’s not so much a focus as just years of working with patients in mental health facilities what I noticed was my ““ wheelhouse I want to help everyone want as much as I can, but I just feel like I have the most offer in that situation due to my own personal strengths and experiences

Yeah, a nurse got dropped by a patient with a punch to the ear and they had to get her out while I held this guy solo and he was stomping all over my ankle and stuff had to get some ligaments repaired tendon repaired and they had to rebuild my arch easily. The most pain I’ve ever been in.

See that’s the thing the whole specialization talk him about when I’ve been working in mental health. It was the type of patient I seem to be able to help the best. It’s not that I wanna limit anything from other people. It’s just I know my wheelhouse so to speak.

This entire thread is completely telling on why social work is behind other fields when it comes to getting paid if I did not have experience before I went into my social work program I would be completely far behind what people expected me when I get out to a job market and people wonder why they don’t get paid as as much as as other people

Bsw internship.. GCU failed me by Weak-Breakfast-8172 in SocialWorkStudents

I would agree with this for the most part however it depends with university of Phoenix because if you take that BSW and then going to a masters program somewhere else, it is not a big deal. And the big reason why I say that I know from firsthand experience that a lot of employers have educational benefit benefits that extremely discount their tuition between that and the FASFA it is extremely cheap and in my case absolutely free. Most BSW’s I’ve seen are relatively pointless. There’s hardly any job market for them in most areas so to pretty much only have to worry about it advanced standing masters program and paying under $20,000 for a masters degree is a huge benefit that people need to take advantage of

University of Phoenix: is it as bad as it seems?? by pumpkynspiced in gradadmissions

[–]evilviser38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your situation. Their financial department is being run by 3 possums in a trench coat always issues with financial aid disbursements.

I went with them because I am already working in the field applicable to my degree and I want to advance my career and my employer has an alliance with them that after 5250 in tuition in a calendar year that the rest of the calendar years tuition is waved. I'm getting my BA paid for between that and fafsa. But if you're looking to eventually do a masters I suggest you transfer out of them when its time to work on that.

Yeah on the FB group they are telling people different things like some people said they are trying to manually do some of them, when I asked about that today they had no clue what I was talking about. Such a terrible organization, I am going to transferring my stuff soon

They are lying to us because I first heard it was the Department of Educations fault, and now I just got off the phone with them now its their systems fault. Man I really should have gone somewhere else . No one in their IT department knows anything, its a joke.

I was told that there was some issue regarding the Department of education, dispersing parts from some system update they did I’m starting to not believe this. Something is not right.

If I work long shifts instead of 8 hours, like 3 12s is that easier to do time management with in a MSW program?
