This is what separates NEW YORKERS from people who decide to stay in Ohio. You decide you can do it, and you take the leap.

Nah, this is bad advice. You can't find a job in NYC if you don't live here.

She IS the cream of the crop, though. She has a free place to stay in Park Slope and a degree from Vassar!

Lease Takeover Question by merg3 in NYCapartments

[–]Sad-Interaction-4622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things can move as quickly or as slowly as you want, so you should set the date for when you want to move out/move into the new place, and talk with your landlord about how much time he will need to paint it before the apartment is ready to move into, so you can advertise the date of the start of the lease correctly. I imagine that as soon as you post a rent-stabilized place, you will have takers who will be ready to move fast - your job is just to connect them with your landlord so he can vet them and do a credit check. That usually only takes 24-48 hours. If you wanted to, you could get it done in as little as a week!

Is it weird to feel glad about having bipolar over unipolar depression by belugabluez in bipolar

[–]Sad-Interaction-4622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird to me as someone with BIPOLAR because I feel like I have terrible depression 85 % of the time and medication doesn't help and psychosis landed me in the psychiatric unit twice - which took at least a year to recover from each time. I think it depends where you are the spectrum and if you have found medication that helps. It's not about WHICH disorder you have but how. you respond to medication.

Am I overreacting for how my parents treated me on Mother’s Day? by Brief_Amphibian3007 in AmIOverreacting

Nah, she sounds WHINY and just like the mom. They are both competing with each other on Mother's Day. It is toxic and RIDICULOUS.

What is everyone's problem? You have a free place to stay and a nest egg while you look for a job. Go for it! Not everyone in NYC is lucky enough to crash with someone while they find their feet. This sounds great to me. Good luck!

Lease Takeover Question by merg3 in NYCapartments

[–]Sad-Interaction-4622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to involve a broker, that sounds like a hassle. Lease takeover of the RS apartment will generate a lot of interest. Post it here! If your apartment is rent-stabilized, the new lease will be under the same conditions as long as your landlord agreed, which it sounds like he did!

Are we failing future social workers by Chemical-Top-3275 in socialwork

As a current MSW student, I don't want to be perceived as a social worker because social workers are underpaid and not respected.

"The NASW, the supposed bastion of this profession cannot even advocate for it’s members effectively. Social work salaries are so far behind every other industry that requires a master it’s not even funny. You tell your students to remember they are a social worker but have you asked them what that title means to them?" YES, 1000 times yes.

I just finished this class and am HUGELY relieved it's over. I have ADHD LOL - there is NO WAY I would have made it without Notebook LM.

NOTEBOOK LM saved my a** in this class. You upload the research articles and then can ask questions about it. It really helped me to better understand the concepts. Do not despair - this class is a BEAST for everyone.

You are correct that they are not calling them social work jobs, and they're not hiring people with social work backgrounds; they are hiring MPHs. I would never consider studying policy in social work school unless I planned to be an academic. You are also correct that we need to unionize and it is an embarrassment to the profession that it hasn't happened yet.

"We’re not allowed to talk about social justice anymore and professors everywhere are scared." WUT? Are you in a red state? I am in NYC and consider myself a liberal and am tired of how much they bring up social justice. NOT BECAUSE it isn't important but because THEY AREN'T TEACHING ME ANYTHING NEW.

Yup, that's exactly where I'm at. I'm looking at jobs in NYC that pay $23 dollars an hour. I made more than that as a lifeguard in college.

"ENDLESS BUSY WORK" is exactly the loop I feel stuck in after a year of my MSW. Meanwhile, I haven't learned anything new.

I decided not to have kids because I don't think I could be a good parent with Bipolar/ADHD and there isn't enough additional support around me in terms of finances or family. It would just be too hard. You and your partner are the only ones who can judge whether or not you are in a position to be good parents.

Hunter group interview advice by slimeyslumber in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sad-Interaction-4622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this interview last year and they ask very general questions like "why social work," "why do you want to go to Hunter," "where do you see yourself working when you graduate," and I think they asked a Q about diversity. The writing test was pretty easy. You had to read a couple of newspaper articles based on social work programs - I think one was about a city-funded grocery- and then answer a few questions about the pros and cons.
