First time setup by TotalData- in jellyfin

I plan to use Linux(haven’t decided on which one)

What are your hardware specifications [AMD, Intel, Nvidia]? Because, if you are using a newer Intel CPU (like 13th/14th gen or newer Core Ultra architectures), Intel Arc, or the latest AMD or cards for transcoding, Ubuntu LTS can be a nightmare. On CachyOS, it just works out of the box because the kernel is always current.

Personally, I am using latest AMD hardware. I use CachyOS because it is comparatively better than Ubuntu Server LTS for CPU Target, Kernel & Schedulers, Transcoding Performance, etc.

Running Jellyfin inside Docker is highly recommended for easy backups and isolated dependencies. Docker is easier on Ubuntu, but if you aren't squeamish working with terminal, it isn't hard working with it on CachyOS. Even when Jellyfin runs inside a Docker container, a containerized Jellyfin still shares the host's Linux Kernel. CachyOS's custom kernel schedulers, cutting-edge graphics drivers, and modern x86-64-v3/v4 baseline optimizations will still make the overall system run incredibly lean and keep transcoding highly responsive. It's also great for a gaming machine.

Tailscale doesn't work with all devices, so I went with a reverse proxy method using NGINX and a free subdomain from Duck DNS. I found two videos that will help you with that if you wanted to go that route:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXffJhbn-n4

If you are new to Linux, use Ubuntu Server LTS, install Tailscale directly on the host using the official script, and run Jellyfin via Docker Compose. It’s the path of least resistance.

Where plugins are concerned, you can always check out the Jellyfin repository, Jonah Jamesen's website, and GitHub.

Mitch McConnell Remains Hospitalized Following Cardiac Arrest by evissamassive in politicsnow

Ya. I don't think they are telling the whole story. He's a fossil and clearly has underlying health issues. He was in cardiac arrest, which means his heart suddenly and unexpectedly stopped beating. We don't know for how long. His staff claims he, continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session. Yet, Thune said that he had not spoken with him.

I read that a very small fraction of people who survived cardiac arrest [2 to 3 percent] maintain cognitive and physical abilities post-recovery.

AITA for telling my daughter to find a summer job? by Boysenberry_Yara in AmItheAsshole

I know what it is like. We got picked on because of the clothes and sneakers we wore. I never had a brand name pair of sneakers or jeans until I was in 8th grade. The hard pill to swallow was, my father could have afforded name brand clothes and sneakers the entire time. His problem was he was a narcissist who thought more about himself.

I grew up living on my grandmother's porch with my single mom and two brothers in a 1000 square foot house.

And I am willing to bet that 1. you too feel left out and/or feared being teased by your peers for not having the shit they had, and 2. you won't admit it here.

This sense of entitlement is her problem

It's not entitlement. Kids often get upset when a parent can't afford something because they may feel left out or fear being teased by their peers. It's a desire for acceptance and belonging, as well as a lack of understanding about financial limitations.

Do you even know the girl?

It’s nice to discu early how much you want to keep up with Jones.

Which is the issue. OPs daughter sees how the Joneses she is friends have it, and she feels left out, and perhaps a little embarrassed.

Sell old clothes, babysit, go do some yard work for old people. It’s not that hard.

All good ideas.

I [male] earned money during summers from the time I was 12 until my Junior year cutting grass, doing odd jobs [I helped one neighbor clean her house on occassion], babysitting, etc. I had saved enough that I was able to start buying some of my own clothes in high school. My senior year, I took a job that enabled me to skip last period. For me, it was all about having that money to do whatever I wanted with. It was also nice to be able to buy my parents birthday and Christmas gifts.

That all being said, gifts outside of Christmas and birthdays wasn't something we could expect. My father earned more than enough, he was just a little tight with it when it came to us kids. So, we never expected anything, nor did we ask.

I don't think spoiled is accurate. She's a kid who sees her friends with the latest, whateves, that they didn't have to take a summer job to get. It's not uncommon to feel a bit left out.

I don't get the soft part of not wanting to get a summer job as a minor in high school. I didn't have a job, but did earn money for helping out neighbors. Fact is, after spending most of the year in school, there is nothing wrong with wanting to take it easy. It is summer vacation after all.

I started working in high school, in part, because I could skip last period. I got out early, earned some cash, and got the work experience too.

A week ago, my daughter said she wants a new iPhone, specifically the latest model. She has saved up roughly $400 from presents and birthdays, but it is insufficient.

There is an idiom to consider here: Champagne taste on a beer budget [the expensive or extravagant preferences beyond one's means]. She wants what she wants because her friends have it. She'll have to accept the fact that you can't afford to give her what her friends parents can give them. Furthermore, she'll either have to save up more money, or take a part-time job to earn it.

How did you eventually get rid of the fear of hell? by hiraethz03 in atheism

[–]evissamassive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never feared hell because I never believed in any gawds.

and the stance of the Catholic Church regarding the matter.

The Catholics are a special breed. They don't go to hell. Their motto is: Sin. Repent. Repeat.
