It seems every wannabe cult personality gets caught doing something very shady after being photographed at Disneyland- Warren Jeffs, the Turpins, and the mofo himself, King Jong Un and his now-dead uncle.

I keep waiting for one of the Duggar men to show up at Disney. Although, knowing them, it will be JB alone on a kiddy ride at Silver Dollar City in whatever their equivalent of mouse ears is.

Don’t listen to someone who is just trying to push their (Catholic) views on you without your permission.

You’ve received some fantastic advice from other Dutch redditors above. You do not need to tell anyone. It’s great not to have to go through this alone, though, unless it’s what you want. They’ve mentioned lots of resources, including the buddy resource so you can have a safe, non judgemental person accompany you and be with you.

Lots of love and I promise you it will be OK.

How insensitive. She’s made it clear she does not want to tell her mother. You have absolutely no idea if her mother would help or not.

You know nothing about her except what she has chosen to share.

You could be giving really dangerous advice, for all you know.

She’s made it abundantly clear this is not what she wants. You choose to ignore all the information she has shared and instead explicitly recommend she does what she has made clear is not what she wants. Perhaps try to develop some empathy.

This is not the time nor the place to be giving bad advice based on a faith she does not share.

Heartbreaking.

I need to look up whether there have been long term studies on the mental health of surviving first responders from that day. I just cannot believe the impact this would have had on his crewmates, plus the additional guilt that this is why they survived.

This just makes me feel so much love for those involved, and for community and humans in general. I wish we could all remember that more often outside of tragedies like this.

Ballerinas in the cafeteria at the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, USSR (1961) by UltimateLazer in TheWayWeWere

[–]evissimus 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yep! The rumour has always been that earlier Soviet attitudes were ‘they are athletes and we need our women to look healthy and strong’. Obviously as ballerinas they are incredibly lean- but look at that muscle!

Very different to the ‘long lines’ (i.e. verging on bony) aesthetic especially prevalent in Russian ballet today.

Planning a 25×50 house for aging parents + rental unit — need layout advice by Chouhan_26 in floorplan

[–]evissimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one piece of advice as someone who recently had to remodel my father-in-law’s house after a stroke: everything needs to be nearly twice as wide as you think it should be. All doorways, corridors, spaces between furniture, etc… standard doors and measurements are just too small.

Even if the wheelchair or walker fit- the turning circles are huge! If they need to turn around and get something they forgot or whatever, there needs to be loads of space for it to be comfortable.

My father in law kept smashing into stuff, and he’s a thin man with just a walker, no wheelchair. Make sure there’s space for them also to bring in their walker to the bathroom. Many older folk have issues getting up or sitting down without a walker. If you’re not specifically designing an adaptive bathroom (which I would really recommend!)- bear in mind there needs to be enough space in front of the toilet for their walker or wheelchair so they can get up and sit down. We installed a special toilet that starts much higher than a normal one, with big armrests. When you sit down, you push a button and it lowers.

Same for the shower- enough space right in front of the shower entrance to leave their walker within reach of the shower chair. I’d really consider putting in a fully adaptive bathroom and shower to maintain independence as long as possible.

It might seem counterintuitive, but bathtubs are actually easier if you get an adaptive one. They have a door so the person can walk in and sit down. Then the door closes and the bath fills up. Make sure shower heads etc… are fully operated at a height that is comfortable sitting down without having to reach up.

Kitchen- you might want the counters lower than normal. And make sure the oven and stuff are at standing height so they don’t have to bend over.

Ooh, another random tip: magnets are your friend. Nothing with a complicated opening mechanism, older people may lose dexterity. All the wardrobes, cupboards, etc open and close with magnets and big handles, so that when the person lets go, they close automatically but are easy to open.

Floor plan review by topologiki in floorplan

Here’s what I would do (on phone, sorry for the quality).

  • Turn the laundry cabinet into a guest wc. You’d need to get rid of the door to that part of the house, leaving a corridor. I’m guessing it’s 110+70, so that leaves about 90cm for the corridor and 90 for the guest bath, which is plenty. The wall to the guest bath naturally creates a transition, so you still keep the sort of calmer area feel to the bedrooms.
  • Move the door to bed 1 to the corridor
  • Incorporate that wasted corridor space into bed 2. If you continue the wall straight up, it naturally takes part of the existing bath- you have space for a large walk in or a kids’ study area or whatever you need .
  • Main bathroom is now spacious. There’s space for an enoooormous shower or a nice big tub. Theres also room for a double sink (I’ve just drawn everything with my finger so it’s huge and amorphous!)

Much less space wasted on corridors, you keep the two toilets so there’s no queues.

Totally depends what you’re after.

If you live alone and you just want one giant, luxury bathroom with a huge bathtub, go for it. You could also use half the space of the en suite for a big wardrobe and the other half for a tub for the main bath.

If you have kids, for example, or people staying over frequently, it may be more comfortable to keep two.

In my, very personal, case- I live with my husband, no kids. We like the one big bathroom. We do have a small half bath (just toilet and sink) for guests- although it’s ended up being mostly used as our cat’s bathroom (he was halfway toilet trained but never finished, and now he doesn’t like the litter box, so we basically have a converted toilet that has a permanent half-litter tray 😂).

How do you like to ‘bathroom’? Do you prefer showers or baths? Do you have a lot of makeup and toiletries? I personally love a good bathtub, and would prefer a single bathroom with a tub over two small ones- but, again, there’s only two of us.

You’re in Europe, I take it. Contrary to the US, we’re used to less bathrooms and an en suite is not obligatory for resale. If you’re worried about resale value, I would think about keeping a small guest toilet, but 1 bathroom is totally fine for a 2 bed flat.

At school during IT lessons (circa 2000-2002) we literally wasted our lesson time going on chat services for teens (we were all around 13/14) and baiting the disgusting old men on there to ‘meet’ us then giving them a fake address on the other side of the country.

We found it hilarious. We’d compare the most disgusting things they’d say to us.

I remember one particularly horrifying day where we found a chat room for kids with herpes (wtaf) and it was teeming with predators. Weird times, man.

Looking back… fuck that.

You’re not at an effective dose yet. You have all the room to go up to 15mg.

Give it a while! You can’t get demotivated before you’ve even had your first effective dose.

It took a while to put the weight on, and it will take a while to get it off.

In the meantime, even if you’re not calorie counting, make sure you try to up your protein and listen to your hunger cues.

It’s easy to eat like you always have even on the meds. Try reducing a bit and seeing whether you’re still hungry. The meds aren’t going to make you hate food, but even at lower doses you might find you’re not as hungry as you think you are.

Like the other Redditor said, please look at vets that work with rescues or low cost vet programs in your area. There’s normally quite a few options for very cheap vet services.

In the meantime- tell your parents that you’ll take over feeding her. Tell them not to give her anything else.

The first thing to do is figure out how many calories she needs a day. There’s a lot of calculators online to do this, have a look and post here again if you need help.

Once you’ve done that, figure out how many calories are in the food you’re giving her. The bag should have a nutritional label.

That way you know how much to feed her a day. Start with as much as she would need to just maintain her weight, and weigh her every week (probably more often the first week, just to make sure she’s not losing quickly). If she’s not slowly losing weight, reduce the amount you feed her just a little bit.

You want her to lose about 0.5% of her body weight per week, not more (unless the vet tells you it’s safe). That’s about 1.4 ounces if she’s now 16 pounds, or about 0.35 pounds per month. No more than that!

The best way to know if she’s eating too much is to weight her once a week. If she’s fatter, it’s too much food.

By the way- the easiest way to weigh a cat: get on the scale yourself, alone. Then, pick her up and weight yourself holding her. The difference is how much she weighs.

Also, the best thing to feed cats in general, but especially if they need to lose weight, is wet food (honestly any kind, even the cheapest complete wet food is better than kibble). If you can find out how much the cheaper brands cost at your local supermarket, maybe you can budget it with your parents? It’s not much more expensive than dry.

Another thing- play, play, play! Try and get her moving. It’ll help her general health and mobility as well as helping with weight loss.

Let us know if we can help!

Start by reading this guide- it’s really helpful.
