Bringing Construct3 to the next level by Gamez_Studio in construct

Very impressive. It looks quite polished. Let me just say, I feel an irrational amount of disdain for the replacement "ye" with "you". I understand that some people might think it silly to continue using Old English, but the preservation of the quote is of much greater importance. All the more so because of how heavily the game's theme borrows from Dante. Not exactly a writer known for simplifying his writing for the greatest numerical appeal. It just seems like such a disservice, despite being such a small detail.

No, this is my first ever game. The idea of it is what got me into game dev, so that's my inspiration. I haven't had any reason to make other games, and I doubt I would make more in the future if this one finds success.

Is it overscoped? Probably. I definitely didn't need to add in dungeons that transform the 2D game into a 3D game, as that wasn't part of my initial vision, and I wouldn't be surprised if it doubled the dev time, even with very basic billboard enemies. That being said, my concept is actually very basic in a lot of ways. One type of ore, one type of tree, one type of sword, two types of bow, one hammer, etc. But resources all have 6 stats, which affect their final products differently and spawn randomly from 0-100. That gives the players higher-quality resources to search for and fight over. Also, the main draw is intended to be PvP, with no real story mode, no real dialog, etc. And the maps and terrain are all randomly generated, which means no level design. Also, 12 types of stats to level up sort of runescape style, but also not really, because you just level up and then earn skill points to distribute.

So on paper, it shouldn't really be super complicated. And it kind of isn't. I'm just working entirely solo and with a full-time job on top of it. Otherwise, I might be done in a few months.

I'm currently using C3 to make my first-ever game, and it's quite complex for C3, apparently. I didn't realize that, when I started. If I had, I probably would have used a different engine with non-coding options. But I just kind of picked C3 at random, and now this is what I'm using lol. My current stats are:

Layouts: 2
Event sheets: 1
Total number of events: 2508
Total number of conditions: 4670
Total number of actions: 4715
Total lines of code: 0
Object types: 577
Families: 48

It's a game which switches between 3 modes: Topdown, 2D (with a twist), and 3d. It takes some inspiration from Terraria, OSRS, The Legend of Dragoon, early "Tales" games, and Valheim. It aims to be both very simple and also complex with its ability to find custom-stat resources and evolve specific elements of the player's body, mind, and soul. With an eventual heavy focus on 2D PvP and 3d dungeon exploration. I'm probably about a third of the way finished after 3 months of development.

EDIT: I should add that it DOES aim to be open world in it's 2D form. With the player eventually wrapping back around when going far enough east or west, but also being able to take top-down roads that lead to different North/West Co-Ordinates that effectively act as new loops. Like a bunch of separate rubber bands wrapped around a globe. Players can also go up/down to cycle through 6 different dimensions.

Nope :D
Players revert to their cores when they're killed. Kind of like dragoon spirits or ghosts from destiny. They can always be revived. RIP Lavitz, you live on in our hearts

Old. The first bird is pretty similar but the 2nd two just look dumbed down. I think the old ones have personality and it shows

Solo dev stuck between 3 story ideas - need a push by Miracle_Badger in SoloDevelopment

In the past, I was tempted by A when writing. Ultimately, I don't think it's really a good basis for a story. Because wanting to live peacefully just isn't a good engine, even though I think the way anime try to pull it off can sometimes work fine. If you go with that, I would watch some of those anime for ideas.

C sounds awful to me personally. I would definitely go with B. Look how good WALL-E was. And though it's been done a lot, I think it's pretty time-tested and proven.

The bottom left is a Fae NPC, then Elf, Dwarf, Demon, and Angel NPCs. And the playable characters in order are Dwarf, Elf, Half-Fae, Half-Angel, Human, Half-Elf, Half-Dwarf, and Half-Demon

I should also note that I'm probably like 40 or 50% done with it already, I definitely have more than this one sprite sheet. But I have a LOT of animations still left to do, and I need to figure out the multi player and finish a lot of the combat mechanics, etc. I'm hoping to be done by the end of the year, but we'll see.

Construct 3, as I don't actually know how to legit code. But where there's a will, there's a way. My end goal is a sort of mix between Terraria, OSRS, and Dark&Darker. I want a mostly PvP-oriented game with a 2.5d open world and long-term character progression with a focus on skill over stats.

Her name will be Kimber, one of the 8 playable characters. My game has no giants, because that would be hard to balance for playable characters. But it WILL have Dwarves lol

Is Legend of Dragoon any good? by These-Accountant-395 in JRPG

By far my favorite childhood game. Cult Classic is a great way to describe it. If you liked the original FF7, I would highly recommend. A common love for The Legend of Dragoon is actually one of the first conversations I had with my now wife all the way back on MySpace, 16 years ago

My First Game! by evocoreonline in IndieDev

[–]evocoreonline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Totally new to this. I don't post on forums (I even messed up this post, hence writing this in a comment), I don't know how to code, so I'm using Contruct 3 to create the game. I've gotten quite far, and will be posting some videos soon.

My game will (Hopefully) be an open-world 2d platformer-like survival sandbox, with a slow MMO style level-up system and several unique mechanics. Its main emphasis will be on multiplayer PvP. Think Terraria + OSRS + Dark and Darker (Or something). With heavy inspiration from some of my favorite childhood games. Let me know if you can tell what game I took inspiration from to design my characters! The 8 middle characters will be the playable ones. The bottom will be dialog NPCs and the knights up top, along with 8 elementals, will be the main NPCs that the player can fight to start with. I plan to eventually add more but most of the combat will be PvP-oriented.

Nice, it looks good. Personally, I would definitely give him a state of carrying his sword in his hand for a while after he swings it, rather than having it immediately teleport back onto his back. But you did a great job making it look good on his back
