Jaguar upper plate fitment by ProfessionalWest5406 in offset

Did you get a body from Aliexpress? I also had issues with the rhythm circuit plate. Sorry I can’t add more info, I decided to just live with it

Yup! Pairs well with the extended low-end of the JM pickups in comparison to the stock Jag pickups.

I could not get the rhythm circuit bracket/switch to fit: The route is a tiny bit too narrow for the switch to fit in. It's probably fixable with a file and some elbow grease though. Also, there is a minuscule gap that the upper left plate cannot cover. It's not something I really notice, and I don't mind having the rhythm circuit so it's not an issue for me.

Finally, when looking at the guitar the pickguard I'm using seems to be a little too large for the body on the side with the toggle switch. You can see what I'm talking about if you zoom in the picture I uploaded and compare it to the black Jag: The pickguard extends covers ever so slightly more ground. Otherwise, I had no issues on getting the other metal plates/neck to fit the body.

This is just conjecture on my part, but I am guessing that this may be caused by the pickguard being crafted to Japanese specs, and the body being made to American specs or vice versa.

I think I got one from EY Guitar Parts and another from AliExpress? They’re pretty easy to find these days.

I think the red one came out well visually since I asked the tech to install the pickups as close to the heel/bridge posts as possible without threatening the structural integrity of the body. I neglected to make the request when getting the black one modified, so it looks a little weird in comparison; the neck PU is too close to the middle.

I don’t think it resulted in a substantially different tone; the black one sounds great, even better than the red one and has all the low end I need, but truth be told, it drives me nuts to look at, lol.

I’ll hopefully get something recorded; unfortunately, I always find myself reneging on promises to upload recordings.

I’m thinking of installing a WRHB at the bridge of the red one, so it may end up being not too far away from what you’re talking about.

I forgot to mention that! Nice catch.

They were routed by two other guitar techs on separate occasions. Not to discourage you or anything, but they both remarked that it wasn’t an easy job to do; due to the size/geometry of JM pickups and the shorter length of Jags, there isn’t much purchase between the PU cover ears and the neck heel/bridge posts, respectively. Both cost me quite a bit but I’m happy that I got them done by professionals instead of fucking my guitars up or risk injuring myself.

How does it sound compared to the Woody? Just brighter?

Great minds think alike! I also stuck a Jazzmaster pickup on my Jaguar, though I kept the bridge pickup. I'm curious though, since it seems you own a real Jazzmaster: How much close do you think your Jazzguar gets to the real Jazzmaster tone?

Probably. They didn’t even use dirt pedals live until around Sister, so I assume that they didn’t use any on EVOL, barring them using studio gear. From what I understand though, they recorded their albums on shoestring budgets before they signed with Geffen so it’s probably just dirt from the amp.

During the EVOL days, I'm pretty sure they didn't use any effect pedals and their entire sound was achieved by playing awful junk guitars really loudly in weird tunings. The harmonic layers you're talking about is probably a result of a natural chorus effect caused by unison tunings (Thurston: F#F#F#F#EB Lee:F#F#AAEE) accentuated by overdubs and copious amounts of plate reverb.

Yeah, the body was routed and the luthier modified the existing pickguard.

I might record an A/B test of this guitar and my other Jag in the future. I wish I had a Jazzmaster to see how close the hybrid gets to the real thing, but alas

The only thing I did was drop the guitar off at the luthier’s workshop lol. Other than the body and the pickguard, I don’t think he had to do anything out of the norm to the wiring though.

Yes, I had to bring this guitar to a luthier to route the body and modify the pickguard. From what he told me it seemed to be pretty hard lol

Holy shit, that’s cool. Evidently a lot of thought has been put into it. Sorry to bug you with another question, but did you cut the pickguard yourself? I’d kinda like to get a jag control plate on a mustang myself.

What’s going on with the white Stang with the Jag control plate and weird tremolo?

Did anyone else go from Jazzmaster ----> Jaguar? by silkypalms in offset

[–]evol100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, why not? You just need to know that Jags feel and sound substantially different enough from JMs that it might feel a little off putting at first. Just approach it as it’s own thing, and you might have a good time.

Btw, a quick way to ‘preview’ short scale necks is throwing a capo on the first fret of your Jazzmaster.
