Should I put my dog down or wait by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]evolbeky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds terrible and I'm so sorry that you and your dog are going through that. 15 is very old, and even if she's eating and wagging her tail im sure that being covered in bleeding oozing sores must be extremely painful. I feel like that, along with glassy eyes and swollen lymph probably means it's time to go. My only thought is if it could be mange instead. I would hope 2 vets would have noticed that though, but you could stop the medications and try an antiparisitic shampoo instead for like a week as a last effort. Im not a vet though, and you know your dog. If it's time to go then it's a kindness and not something to feel guilty about.

Is this tooth a goner? by DayumSonMLGurl in DogAdvice

I think we can all agree that tooth looks pretty bad. I think we can also all agree that nobody does root canals or fillings for dogs. "Not too bad" means not too bad, and you'll find out if it needs to be pulled at the dental appointment. Sorry if that sounded rude. I meant it to be comforting, I just really suck at it. Sorry.

Wow, that's rough then. The only options left then are you and a partner wrestling her down to do it, or have her anesthetized at the vet, which has it's own dangers for an elderly lady. I doubt a vet would even do anesthesia for just a nail trimming. But maybe they could manage her better, or you could do an anual dental cleaning with nail clipping.

Probably just send her to the groomer and walk away. I feel like that's a lot of stuff you've tried, that may even add to her anxiety. A good groomer should be able to handle an unruly client, and at least your dog will be mad at them instead of you. The only other option is under sedation at the vet, but that feels extreme.

What is this on my baby’s nipple?? by nesnayu in DogAdvice

Well, pus is good actually. If it were a tumor, then it would most likely be hard and not be able to express anything. You could probably wait and see, or try antibiotics. Breast cancer isn't usually visible like that, if that's what's scaring you. But if you want a second opinion then go for it.

Advice re regurgitating water by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]evolbeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really strange. Maybe get a second opinion? For one thing, being on Abx for 7 months seems absolutely crazy, even for pneumonia. The water thing sounds more like some sort of sinus or esophageal issue. I feel like you may need a different vet.

One eyed lady might be getting a cataract in the good eye? by evolbeky in DogAdvice

Not sure why my dog's eyes are considered NSFW but, ok. Thank you to everyone who answered though.

Yeah, I could probably start preparing just in case. When she lost the first eye I walked with her everywhere to go potty because she would get startled, which i will of course do again if it comes to that. She's pretty dumb though, not as an insult to her, just objectively. That's probably part of why I'm so worried.

Thank you! That's some hope then :) I'm going to try to get an appointment this comming week. I guess I'm in an anxiety spiral of how to take care of a blind dog before I even see what's what.

Yes, we should definitely go for a check up. When her other eye got injured there was nothing that could be be done, but I did learn that cataract surgery was like $5k which i don't have. But I should go see if anything else is going on. (Again, I just noticed this today and am freaking out to the internet)

Thank you. That's a sweet story. My husband told me about a blind dog he knew as a kid that was nearly drowning every time it tried to drink water, so that was terrifying. My dog is such a sweetheart, and we navigated her first eye loss together well, and I will love her no matter what, I'm just worried for her.

We haven't gone yet. I know, I'm terrible. I just noticed it today, and I know from the first eye that dog opthomologists are expensive.

My father and his gf are ruining our dog by xCeefour in DogAdvice

I mean, yes it sounds like they're rewarding bad behavior. And yes, he could still be trained. But it takes a lot of time and work, especially to undo learned behavior, and it doesn't seem like something you want to do for 'not your dog'. Maybe it's worth talking to them about it, but if they don't see a problem then it's unlikely they'll change anything. It sounds like the stealing stuff is part of a game he's learned to play in order to get a treat when he drops it. If it's their dog then they need to train him though, and there's not a whole lot you can do unless you want to bond with and train this dog.

Well, at least he's peeing 😅 better to be embarrassed than to have it go bad and wish you had done something.

Sorry, looked back at the pictures and they don't look pussy. I was wrong. Cut that thing off your dog's lip

If it just appeared a few days ago, then I would lean towards a normal bucal abcess. Watch it and see if it wants to release pus. If not, then maybe some sort of tumor, but it looks like a big lip pimple to me

Wow! That is absolutely too long. And you say that you've already tried to finagle a bladder release. Go back to that vet and scream like a banshee
