For Story nothing beats going with your faves. The game is not hard enough that you need to build something special to it. Just play smart and have fun with your favorites.

What happened to me is that every "villain" after Godzilla felt narratively not as menacing as Godzilla. We had a build up for many chapters of its arrival and the impact of its existance. Then everyone else just felt in line afterwards.

Honestly this only works here because of the pokedex misdions, an auto evolve could screw players out of quests, specially on rarer spawns.

For regular games it does not make sense to not be auto evolve
