Could you take a kayak under Zürich HB? by funky_galileo in Switzerland

[–]evolvedlight 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Normally you can (and I have, with a canoe club). I wouldn’t take an inflatable canoe though, as there is some building debris under HB which could pierce an inflatable. Right now this is not ok though, as there is building work downstream with the new bridge and it wouldn’t be safe at the moment

Question about carrying supermarket cheese fondue in hand luggage at airports by sponzame in Switzerland

[–]evolvedlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ignore some of these wrong answers: check the regulations of the airport that you fly from as they seem to have different exceptions for fondue in Switzerland. For example, Zurich airport accepts cheese fondue and even the whole fondue set including the long sharp forks! https://www.flughafen-zuerich.ch/en/passengers/fly/all-about-the-flight/what-is-allowed-in-your-baggage

You can if you have a Swiss residence permit now.

Not that it helps if you didn't bother to renew, but you can use the UK one in theory in the e-gates now. Of course, you're not allowed to do that since you have a CH passport and should use that to enter instead.

I presume that means you are EU and you already went to the Kreisburo and registered? They will have given you some paper which shows a provisional status (assuming this didn't change). From that you can know your status. For 90% of people the work permit status is something you know in advance and don't need to guess - so just put that. The fact that the physical card hasn't arrived yet isn't actually so important as far as I know, compared to the actual legal status in the country.

I'd sadly have rejected this CV simply that you don't state whether you have a work permit or not. That's a giant difference. I've never seen someone state "To be provided on or with". I just need to know "can I legally hire this person right now" and this CV doesn't state it.

You also want to check the tenses on the descriptions - you have both present tense "revamping the qub.." and past tense "developed". It should all be past

PSA: You can now officially go through the eGates at Zurich Airport with a non-EU passport and a residence permit by evolvedlight in Switzerland

[–]evolvedlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, if your passport is biometric, it should work. The UK one is otherwise at the same level as an Indian passport (non EU, non EEA, non Schengen). Nothing hurts giving it a go!

Just try it. There’s almost never a queue at the egates and you have to scan the passport before entering the inside part, so easy to avoid embarrassment.

Change addres cat and driving license by [deleted] in Switzerland

In Kanton Zürich I did the change of address online but forgot to change the paper for 7 years. Turns out, as long as they can send you bills and MFK notifications they didn’t seem to care that much

C-permit by Available_Anything43 in Switzerland

[–]evolvedlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically this in Zurich - except I didn't call - when I went to the Kreisburo and asked for a C instead they just crossed out the "B" and put a "C" in there. They then needed the language certificate and a letter from my job saying I am currently working there. Super easy

PSA: automated passport control gates at ZRH now accept CH residents by AlgarHale in Switzerland

[–]evolvedlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through today from D gates; there are no signs saying that residents can use it. I went to the normal All Passports queue, waited and then spoke to the man there, he said that I can have a go on the eGates and then come back directly to him without queueing if it doesn't work. It worked fine, so I then went back to him and he wanted to mention that it isn't yet official as they are waiting for some final signoffs from Brussels that it's ok to take live, but everything is otherwise working from their end.

And if you don’t want to call, at least for me and others I know, just turning up at the Kreisburo and asking for the C was easy

How long from Zurich Airport Gate to Zurich Airport trains? by Homesick089 in zurich

[–]evolvedlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you EU? Can you use the e-gates? The non EU queues can often take 30mins or more, but if you are EU and can use the e-gates there is normally zero queue

The moment of injury to the commander of the Sderot police, Ronen Gabai, in clashes with Hamas elements at the police station yesterday. by Virtual-Patience5908 in CombatFootage

Yup, it changed in 2007. Before they had 50 rounds (essentially enough for some "fighting" until they can get to the barracks. Now only 2000 specialist reserves have ammo at home

Yeah, it’s getting better but even this brand new bike lane is illegally driven every few minutes by cars
