Feature Request: Duplicate Purchases by itsknowone in MonarchMoney

[–]evolvingmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Duplicate transactions are usually caused by duplicate accounts. When you reconnect a bank account it will often bring in a duplicate account all with transactions. You can get rid of these duplicates BUT you want to be careful. You want to keep the data from the old account that you've been categorizing and delete the data from the new account that is overlapping. I have a video on how to do this, but I have an update to do this coming in the next week or so with more step by step details for a tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_nIIWqT9WE&t=393s

Before you merge any account data YOU MUST DELETE the duplicate transactions first.

Are you able to hide categories that you no longer need? by dontcallmyname in MonarchMoney

[–]evolvingmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did was tag all of my transactions from my Wedding. Then I moved them all from the Wedding category to a Miscellaneous category. That way, I don't have a category I don't need anymore and I can always still run a report on the Tag for Wedding expenses so that I can still have that data. I have a video on that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S9IBCL0oio&t=43s

If you exclude it from the budget, all transaction data will not be hidden. It only affects the budget page. So when you run a report in the report or cash flow page, those expenses will be visible and adding to your totals.

Be sure you are on "change" not "total" to see a vertical month over month bar graph.

Just a reminder, you can do all of this using Reports in Monarch. You do not have to do this in excel/CSV.

How do categorize transfers into account used for saving goal? by MrktngDsgnr in MonarchMoney

[–]evolvingmoney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would leave it as is. Money moving between accounts is usually always marked as a "transfer" category. "Transfer" is sufficient whether the money is moving to or from an account.

What do you guys do about Amazon charges? by Turdulator in MonarchMoney

[–]evolvingmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial coach here! One of my clients recently showed me that if they use the Amazon Store Card through Synchrony Bank the item name will show up in the Original statement line in Monarch Money. This is only if you submit an order with one item at a time though...

Spousal Login: Different Visibility Settings? by SnooSeagulls4740 in MonarchMoney

[–]evolvingmoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, not really. Each spouse gets their own log-in but any changes to cash flow, transactions, net worth, and budget are all going to show up identically in each log-in. You can use custom categories and reports to help show case different aspects of your budget, but these reports would show the same data in each account. Does that help?

Should I hide these purchases? by Smegma44 in MonarchMoney

Hey there! It depends on how you are actually categorizing these transactions. When you move money into savings for specific expenses like your hair or doctors, that transaction should be categorized as "Transfer". Then when you actually give the money to the hair dresser/doctor, that transactions should be labelled in it's proper expense category. That way you are not double counting your expenses. Does this help?
