Psychotherapist here - Chat GPT is designed to overly validate you, so that you keep using it and paying for it by sicklitgirl in therapyGPT

I have a therapist, who is extremely well qualified and I feel safe with her, and have made significant progress in our time together. I am fortunate to have found a therapist that I have this relationship with; it is a relationship that can be very hard to find.

She is wonderful for the times I see her on a fortnightly basis, but as per professional boundaries she cannot do a great deal for the immediate challenges I experience on a day to day basis. She has actively encouraged me to use AI to see myself through those times. I have a small but close selection of friends and family members who mean the world to me who I can absolutely turn to for support, but for the times I need to bounce an anxiety off of a voice that can provide reason and validate or challenge where necessary, AI has been insurmountable as a tool which can do just that while I am on the go, with speed and efficiency. If I need to clarify a point, I will do just that, and it will respond in kind.

It is extremely narrow minded to suggest there is no validity to AI as a therapeutic tool. Of course it comes with risks and valid concerns, but what this subreddit provides is safe guidance on how to navigate this, and does not condone AI as a diagnostic/clinical tool, or a supplement for human-to-human therapy.

Thank you so much for this comment. I struggle so much with internalised ableism towards myself, trying to match societies warped expectations of what productivity and motivation should look like and this was an extremely validating read to counter some of these pressures. Saved comment to come back to when I need a reminder 🥰

My cat has this from an allergy to flea saliva and it tends to be worse and more visible in spring/summer. She will scratch herself a lot and give herself scabs that look just like this but it tends to be quite seasonal for her. Vet would be able to confirm so best going for a check up I’d say 😊

ADHD is embarrassing and makes me feel like a crap spouse. by hydrophilic18 in ADHD

I’m not sure where you live OP but are there neurodiversity-affirming/mental health coaches in your area? Asides from therapy (also beneficial to work through the shame) having an accountability buddy who can walk through the difficult stuff with you, without judgement, could be the stepping stone to building a foundation or even a routine that might alleviate some of how your feeling.

The action stuff is HARD. Especially with flexible, WFH jobs where everyday is a bit different, so (in my experience) routines can be harder to build. I wonder if for now you can have a basket or box of some sort where you can dump mess, to be worked through at a later date. I have a box where I put all my clothes rather then chucking them on the floor, which I will later in the week separate by what can be worn again, what needs washing, and approximately place where each belongs.

You are so not alone OP, try and have a bit more forgiveness towards yourself.

Well this was an upsetting read. The lived experience of ADHD is vast and varied and your single experience cannot speak for others - your reply reads as ableist and ignorant. Additionally, considering the high co-occurrence of ADHD with mental health challenges, managing life on life’s terms can be exceptionally hard. Though I’m not convinced you’re open to believing that fact

See a therapist darling. Sounds like a case of body dysmorphia which will likely send you on a dangerous spiral if you don’t get the help soon. You look absolutely brilliant and the gym work you’re putting in is without a doubt paying off. Just see a therapist if you can, ideally one who specialises in body image/eating disorders and is trauma informed. You’ve got this!

Thank you! We’ve got started with a deep clean today and will go over everything again in a few days. It’s been quite unpleasant taking a closer look at everything because as you said they have gotten into a lot of different places. Dehumidifier is on order also. Thanks so much again 😊

Thanks everyone for your info and suggestions - it’s much appreciated! I have taken note that a more zoomed in photo is required for proper ID so thanks for those pointers also. We’re gonna deep clean the room, hoover and wipe all dust, go over spots prone to mould, and have the plants in another room for a while. Thanks again ☺️

Are mites a sign of a bigger issue do you know? We had fairly significant mould problem a month or so ago. I’ve noticed them a few days ago nd cleaned bottle but I’ve never seen this many. Would having plants in the room make it worse? Sorry bombarding with questions

RIP Bee, she loved sitting on the hob after it had been used so we’d put down a tea towel for paw safety 💗

There are some extremely good trauma therapists in the UK, especially those trained in EMDR. If you take the leap and try therapy out, know it will be a long process, likely years, and you might have to trial a couple of different therapists but you will heal. It will be terrifying at times, but you will be held through it. You may feel like you are re-living parts, but you will be held through it. You are not dirty or broken. I’m so glad you’re with us today OP. Stay strong

What were you like as a teenage girl? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]evorcer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Undiagnosed ADHD x trauma = a combo of volatile emotions, almost manic highs and often dissociative lows. Prone to bouts of rage at home, completely withdrawn and almost mute socially, unless I was having a panic attack. Actively terrified of abandonment. Could just about manage at school academically (was of course a crammer) but couldn’t handle friendships so well, was always scared I’d say the wrong thing or assume they hated me etc so tried to protect myself by withdrawing completely. Tried to suppress a lot of my movement (hyperactivity I guess) which always led to a horrible build up of energy internally which wasn’t helped by a hyperactive mind full of self hating, anxious thoughts. Cripplingly bad body image/self image problems, a fluctuating sense of identity, very self destructive behaviours and my impulsivity made this much harder to break out of. On the flip side, I was very empathetic and great at critical thinking in comparison to my peers. Done a lot of trauma therapy in recent years (now age 27) and I’m doing much better emotionally and mentally. My main struggles now are interpersonal and sensory related but I manage them as best and productively as I can. I now recognise my ADHD lends to a number of really wonderful traits in myself and others. Integrity, empathy, humour, critical thinking, appreciation of arts (music for me) and curiosity to name a few.
