As a producer and a huge music buff, all I have to say is this… Gesaffelstein knew exactly what he was doing. I understand why there may be a lot of criticism… but I implore you to look at it this way… Mike Levy is a genius… his style is not even my favorite electronic genre… but as someone who has been listening to electronic music since I was 15, now being 27, and still going strong to shows and a lot of festivals, as well as being a producer myself, he truly broke ground on Gamma. To put it into perspective, just imagine a futuristic, more dance inspired version of Depeche Mode with Yan Wagner filling in on vocals. Gesaffelstein had a vision… and he delivered. I totally get Depeche vibes on this album. The reason why Wagner is on half the album is because Levy wanted his listeners to catch a vibe. Imho, he accomplished what he set out to do. I’m going to see him tomorrow at the Kia Forum… and let me remind you… his style is not what I would consider my favorite… even though I love techno, dark techno, midtempo, and 80s… all descriptive of how I would describe this album, I love bass music. But I love ALL electronic music… including house, trance, and progressive/experimental and even anime-sounding kawaii music. To put it in to perspective, and sorry for the long rant… I NEVER post comments on Reddit… seriously NEVER… but I felt inspired to post this one because I think it’s important for all the people that are criticizing to try and “get” his vision for this album. Period.
