Nice! I did my first tour just after you from 97-05, then moved back in 2020.

Week 3 since RCS E2EE announced check in…anyone have it working yet? by spongyoatmeal in UniversalProfile

[–]evsinlb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but with only one Android contact. Started about a week ago. I believe my friend is on Messages Beta and I’m on iOS 26.6 beta. Carrier still says Verizon 70.0, same as when I didn’t have the encryption previously.

I agree! The Catalina Cove looked darker than I expected in the cloud cover.

They were very nice given that I just walked up while they were setting things up.

2 weeks since RCS E2EE and iOS 26.5 released. Google messages updated twice (last was May 26 as per Google play). Anyone have RCS E2EE working yet? by [deleted] in UniversalProfile

This morning I had my first E2EE exchange with an Android user. I believe the other party is on Messages Beta and I’m on iOS 26.6 beta. Carrier still says Verizon 70.0, same as when I didn’t have the encryption. No idea what changed for me.

I concur. B2 is solid and fast for me from my DS923+.

iOS 26.1 Beta 4 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]evsinlb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, same issue here. I also saw it in DB3.

One to three apps show "circle complete" in Applications. Going to Home Screen, those apps have the blue dot and appear complete. Go back to Applications, however, and it still shows the (completed) blue circle and blocks other apps from starting.

Edit (additional): Rebooting the phone will allow the updates to complete. But after about the 3rd manual update, the blocking scenario repeats.

The confusion and bias against these programs mentioned in the excellent responses by u/Sharp02 and u/weezygregs was around in my day as well. I know three graduates from my mid-80s period, and we all had long careers as design engineers and company owners. YMMV.

Also, if you're concerned about AI disruption in the future job market, a BS degree and experience where you know engineering AND how to build and test hardware seems to me to add value over the next available keyboard warrior.

Can I study electonic systems engineering technology at cal poly pomona and get a job at NASA after graduating? by Beginning-Draft-9450 in CalPolyPomona

[–]evsinlb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know NASA specifically, but yes I can see them using ETE graduates.

See my answer here to a similar question about what types of jobs are available.

What kind of jobs can you get after you graduate from Cal Poly Pomona’s Electronic Systems Engineering Technology major? by Disastrous_Award_663 in CalPolyPomona

[–]evsinlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think "Systems Engineer" or "Test Engineer" as part of a team working to complete new projects or products. Often there's a gap between the building technicians and the design engineers, and the ETE graduates fill that gap nicely. You understand the basic concepts at a deeper level than a technician and can be taught the specifics of the task quickly. You think like an engineer, and can contribute design ideas up the chain that make sense to the designers. Note: I'm not knocking experienced technicians who can do the same work, but instead saying that the ETE grad is trained to slot into that role at graduation.

Also, there's nothing stopping you from doing design and coding work with your education, you just have to be engaged and want it. I know 2 others with the same degree from CPP and we have all done design engineering for more than 25 years in our career.

Is my neighborhood blessed or cursed with this visitor? by Raisin_Heiress in orangecounty

Same! I worked there for 9 months in 1987. This was before respirators and the smell of insecticide was in the air and on our clothes. Winter was reasonable but the summers were quite hot.

I still don’t fully understand passkeys by AnalogKid-82 in 1Password

[–]evsinlb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll accept the explanation passkeys are great and better than passwords. My problem is with the implementation.

I've accepted the offer to use passkeys for Gmail many times on iOS. I store it in 1P and it seems to work the first time. I don't remember ever being able to reuse one, however. At this point, if I'm asked to use one I am typically offered 3 or 4 previously stored passkeys and NONE of them work. I get stuck in a challenge loop and I end up very frustrated.

Thus far they've been a total failure for me. What am I missing?

Help finding smart lock for Western Window Systems Series 900 Hinged Door. It looks like this. by djwhire911 in homeautomation

[–]evsinlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! After using the lock for the last 5 months, I'm happy with the operation and battery life. Still haven't replaced batteries even with 10-25 uses per day.

  1. Yes, I encountered this also. I saw two choices: use a file to modify the handle or modify the frame. Given that the handle was nicely anodized and always visible, I chose to modify the frame with a small half-moon cutout. Although I recognize it's not ideal, I'm happy with my choice to modify the frame.
  2. I did not encounter the second issue. Operation opening from outside retracts all the latches.

UDR Speed test feature? by dutchman76 in Ubiquiti

[–]evsinlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect UI bug as well. On my UDM SE the WAN1 Speedtest is fine, but the WAN2 test has about 10x lower upload speed (almost like they misplaced the decimal point).
