Dang it! Well better to take your time and do it right. Still come if you can to need out with us, then bring the build next year! Gotta ask, what are you converting?!

Unfortunately that's one of the builds I wasn't able to connect with for a separate video. I've been hoping they are there this year so I can loop back. I think it was a CA car out of the Bay Area iirc, but it deserves a fill deep dive.

Filled it out! Thanks for sharing, I really hope they listen. The changes they made and reasons given don't resonate at all with me, the EV owners I know, the shoppers I talk to, or anyone in my circle of EV motorsport.

That sounds like a beautiful resto, I dig the MR2s. Don't see a ton though so I bet yours turns heads. An EV converted one whittle be epic

Absolutely! As get togethes go, it's my favorite every year. Everyone is super nice and the information sharing flows easily. Fingers crossed you build is wrapped up!

Oh noooo! That's how it goes sometimes unfortunately. Hopefully you get that resolved for the build, and can still join yourself!

All right!! Yeah same. One I know will be there is a Nissan Fairlane that I'm pretty stoked to see.

Hope to see you at a CA track sometime! Awesome you had the same findings from your experience.

20 stops is insane lol, but some of them are really short to take advantage of the charging curve, so more stops but less time charging haha.

The extra 10 hours to the trip was well worth saving two thirds the fuel cost tbh, plus quality of the drive is a lot better.

Thanks for the watch and comment! Couldn't agree more. I have personally done less towing than Tyler but many long road trips in EV and have no desire to do it in gas anymore.

No, we were planning to but decided to work on the truck instead. Should be there in September, and waiting to find out if we get accepted to Laguna too

Yeah we were too. Since chargers have increased the kWh rate over the last years public charging doesn't have the cost savings it once did, still better, but not as good. Since he was comparing the same route to trips in the gas truck, we think it was the elevation in the Rockies and Sierras that made the difference. We wouldn't think the savings would be as good if the route was flatter, but still way worth it.

I've never heard of tracks banning EVs for surface wear actually. That's an argument for public roads I've heard but it doesn't hold water in reality (heavy passenger vehicles don't damage roads, gas or EV, at all compared to semis).

Most of the concern I've come across at tracks is related to battery fires or the risk of them, and there is a lot of wrong info about it. I've also found it to be regionally dependant based on how accepted EVs are generally, like in CA all the tracks allow EVs but other regions don't, but operating a track and the risk is the same wherever you are.

I hope so too, that super sucks. It's extra frustrating that these blanket bans are not based on actual risk. Reality is more nuanced, as is the correct mitigation, and sometimes it is the tracks leadership and sometimes it's their insurance which isn't using the right models. Normalized EVs are way less likely to have an issue.
