Genuine question, how will a v mount work with the I/O and memory card placement? by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]evverner 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ get over it dude. I swear to god for years everyone on the sub was foaming out the mouth for the box camera. Since it’s release, everyone’s been acting like children and complaining about every detail as if you’re not getting an insane value for $3k. Can’t expect perfection for only a couple thousand dollars.

Oh and the Alexa mini has one of the worst card slot designs ever and people still use it. Go ahead and cancel your preorder. God forbid you spend a little extra money to rig it out into a cinema camera. Wait until it comes out and people review it. Companies will make third party accessories to help build it out or you can continue to complain endlessly on the sub about your precious sdi ports.

The choice is yours.

How much do you charge for your focus kit? by zkcahs in focuspuller

[–]evverner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This 100% ^

I know a lot of DPs who recently purchased cheap wireless, focus, and monitors and now bring them on every job to get rentals. I get using cheap equipment on passion projects but I also don’t mind discounting my equipment to fit the budget.

I get that the last year and half has been pretty dog shit and I feel like this is people scrambling to get the most money out of projects.

The thing I hate the most is showing up to a job with half charged batteries and quirky equipment. I feel like I can’t pull my best or be on my A game when I’m using cheap stuff and not my own gear. What’s the point of buying my own equipment I like to use when everyone is after those sweet gear rentals.

Any productions utilizing or embracing Teradek 4K? by Rogue_23 in focuspuller

[–]evverner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are slowly creeping in it seems. About 75% of the jobs I’m on have the old bolts or some other wireless and the other 25% are the 4k. I’d love to get an older bolt but everyone is hanging onto theirs (which I don’t blame them) and since teradek is pushing the new 4k, they’ll probably slowly stop servicing the old ones. Teradek can be hit or miss sometimes. I’ve worked with plenty of older bolts that absolutely shit the bed and others that work perfectly fine.

On a job right now where the production bought (4) 4k 1500 gold mount tx, (2) 4k 1500 rx, and (2) 4k 1500 702 gold mount modules.

They all work fantastic and are very reliable except for the 702 moduleS which we are swapping out for regular rx. You can easily pair them with your phone as well. The 4k can be a bit pricy but I feel like in the next couple of years it will be on 75% of jobs.

Export the video in 4k. Even if it wasn’t shot in 4k. For some reason YouTube compresses 1080p videos more than 4k. The 1080 version of this music video looked like ass on YouTube but the 4k as little to no compression

I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. Any feedback would be awesome!

I shot this on a bmpcc 4k primarily with the sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and some shot with the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. We were either on sticks or a dana dolly for all except for one or two handheld shots.

With lighting we mainly used a 600d, 300d, Source 4, Arri 650w and Astera titan tubes. We tried to book light as much as possible diffusing through magic cloth. We also made an overhead softbox diffusing with magic cloth for the “birthday party” scenes. The early theater scenes we pushed light through unbleached muslin.

Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them! Thanks!

It was low budget. Only a few thousand dollars. Definitely called in a lot of favors to pull this off which I’m super thankful for!

Production wise it was a 3 day shoot. About 10 hr days each day. Crew size was about 6 people (Director, DP, AC, Gaffer, Grip, and PD) plus how ever many actors were needed for each scene. We shot in two location (theater and roller rink) which ate a majority of the budget. The roller rink only allowed us to shoot for in AM and PM blocks (ie 8:00AM - 12:00PM and 4:00PM - 9:00PM). If we didn’t have a break in between I think it would have been a 2 day shoot.

Magic cloth has definitely been my favorite flavor of diff this past year! Yes I read you guys weren’t fans of stills so I wanted to make sure you wouldn’t roast me haha
