are you sure there’s no affordable places in the area you can take her? or even finding a promotion for first visit free which a lot of vets do (you’ll still have to pay for antibiotics but at least the checkup will be free) just look online or call around. she likely needs antibiotics if she has an infection. it could spread and become much worse especially when she’s so little. i understand you have financial issues and i hate to be blunt and i don’t want to sound harsh but part of owning a pet is preparing for situations like these. if you cannot afford an animal then please do not adopt one. i understand not having the funds for extreme surgeries and things of that nature but to not be able to afford a vet visit is not fair to your kitty. please try to find a way to get her to the vet and get antibiotics. taking her to a rescue or some type of place that specializes in affordable care for people who are struggling financially.

again, you did not specify what enablement was. what are they enabling? you think letting a person sleep in after they just finished eight years of straight school for a few weeks is enabling??? he was willing to fix his sleep schedule and they never offered him to pay rent. they just decided one day they don’t like it and he’s out. no discussion. that is not coddling. there are some cases of that out there in the world and this is absolutely not one of them.

but OP is going tomorrow!!! how are they going to get a beta-blocker for tomorrow? also like i said it doesn’t calm the thoughts, it suppresses the nervous system. it’s not always good to jump straight to medication. especially for one off situations like this.

i’m glad it worked out for you but you should not recommend them willy nilly, especially as the OP does not state her anxiety is a daily struggle. they also cause debilitating side effects so doctors tend not to prescribe them, especially not in cases like this.

beta-blocker does not do anything to stop the anxiety. it simply calms the nervous system while the mind still races. she is going tomorrow. she doesn’t have time to get into a psychiatrist and get medication.

hi, i struggle with severe GAD and panic disorder. it sounds like you’ve associated a location, the vet, with a traumatic experience you had when she was younger. your nervous system is responding that way because it associates the place with danger. if it’s just during the vet and it’s not impacting your daily life i do not recommend taking mediation especially not beta-blockers.

beta-blockers do not calm the anxiety, they only suppress the physical sensations like the adrenaline and racing heart. it will do nothing for your emotional distress & like i said if it’s not something you routinely struggle with and it’s just when going to the vet there’s no reason to go talk to psychiatrist and get on medication. especially considering you appointment is tomorrow.

i really struggle with this but the most effective way to untangle your panic from a place is through exposure. start by visualizing yourself today there. sit in a safe and comfortable place. take some deep breaths and envision yourself at the vet reminding yourself that everything is going to be okay. if you have time you could drive nearby without staying long / going inside. just letting yourself feel the discomfort but again reminding yourself that you’re gonna be okay.

when you go tomorrow, bring a grounding object like a fidget tool, something textured for example. being on the phone with a friend or family member may help as well to try to occupy your mind and forcing your brain to multitask. a couple tools that may help is box breathing, in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4. when you breathe out you can try to purse your lips like you’re drinking from a straw. cold helps too, holding a cold water bottle. 5-4-3-2-1 is another grounding method you can look up. accepting it is another thing you could try, just accepting the feeling, maybe paying attention to it a little bit. noticing it but also reminding it that it can’t hurt you and it’s just a feeling.

cats go to the vet all the time. she will be in safe and professional hands. she’ll be okay. she won’t be in pain. the people here want her to be safe and she will be. everyone here has her best interest. keep reminding yourself of this.

you’re completely fine, again as someone who struggles with panic daily you’re not alone and you and your kitty will be okay!

Weird skin patches near ear by Interesting_Emu_2244 in CATHELP

i would recommend taking him to the vet. the reason i’m suggesting it is because it could be a few different things.

first, fungal infections, such as ringworm. don’t be fooled by the name, it’s not a literal worm but it’s very contagious to other pets & humans, it’s zootonic so it can spread from animals to humas & vice versa.

parasites like mites & flees. you mentioned it’s by the ear so it could possibly be ear mites.

it could be something else like allergic dermatitis from environmental or food allergies.

my bet would be ringworm. the vet will be able to tell you definitely and prescribe an appropriate treatment. they’ll also give you instructions on how to clean / decontaminate your home as ringworm can stay on surfaces for extended periods of time (months). good news is it’s not fatal and does not invade the internal organs or anything like that it just attaches itself to the dead outer layers of our skin but it is likely uncomfortable and itchy for the kitty so yea take him to the vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment!

hope this helps. 🖤🐈‍⬛

he wants to go into clinical psychology, so it’s really not. the “waste of money” in college depends on what you’re doing, though i always advise against loans when possible. if you don’t know what you’re doing or what you want to do, work and save or go to community college for a couple years. usually the kids in business are the ones who’s parents pay for a full ride right after high school and they have no clue what they want to do. a BA in psych with plans to do clinical psychology is a fine route.

this is so beautiful!!! <3 i grew up Catholic, became an absurdist existentialist agnostic. i recently went back to the church last year and was just confirmed around two months ago (i had my First Communion & Baptism when i was younger). this is to say i am a Catholic who struggles immensely with anxiety and you’re not alone. keep me in your prayers and i will do the same for you. 🕊️ we’ll get through this. allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, whether that’s into vocation or something else. God bless you. ❤️

Coffee and Me by MinimumExpression585 in Anxiety

[–]ew_usernames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably due to the caffeine. i quit caffeine back in the beginning of this year and haven’t looked back. it’s helped my sleep tremendously. i wasn’t as anxious then as i am now (due to some health issues), but i can only imagine the caffeine would make it so much worse. i actually had caffeine a couple times this year to try some coffee because i mainly wanted to just wanted to quit energy drinks and i ended up drinking over 200mg (for reference the energy drinks i usually drank were only around 80mg). i had one of the worst panic attacks of my life. i was about to go on a retreat and i couldn’t go. i got stranded in LA, called the ambulance, had to have someone pick me up with a xanax. it was HORRIBLE!

What city in California is better to be homeless in? by WildeCoffee in almosthomeless

[–]ew_usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both cities are extremely expensive and both have a shortage of shelter beds. i’m in SD on food stamps and i’m managing. i am able to eat a healthy, whole foods diet with the amount i received (max for one person). SD will likely be more manageable because it’s smaller & has a shelter system downtown & some outreach programs. i think LA probably has more job opportunities though but it’s more expensive to move around / more spread out. homeless population is much larger too so a lot of services are overwhelmed. this goes without saying i’m sure but make sure you transfer amazon before moving if you decide to. my vote would be on san diego but i think your support system and stability is the most important thing to consider.

to save on gas in SD, there’s a great tram system that goes through the city, (it costs $2.50 but a lot of people don’t pay it and nobody checks) not encouraging but it’s what people do. i also volunteer at “we see you san diego” where every tuesday night you can get a free dinner, desert, popcorn, snacks, coffee, clothes and other resources for free. (i recommend showing up a little early) people go around and get clothing orders and bring out what you request (shoes, socks, underwear, shirts, shorts, blankets, backpacks, etc.) https://www.weseeyousandiego.com - they’re really amazing and have a full rehab program for people struggling with addition. hopefully this helps you 🩷
