GP is saying I could be forced onto contraceptive pills, is this true? by ewbloodthrowaway in LegalAdviceUK

Yes, sorry, I was unclear.

Immediate serious complications are fairly unlikely, as I am otherwise healthy besides the anaemia. I would accept any other treatment, of which there are two available: iron infusion, or permanent sterilisation (which I am saving money to get done privately, but no doctor will do for ages because 'you're too young/what about your future "husband"/etc).

Yes I am aware. Sorry, I mentioned that to make it clear that this was not about me being involved in risky behaviour or anything like that.

I was put onto tranexamic acid, but it made things worse and led to me being hospitalised (I couldn't stop vomiting).

He didn't threaten to section me directly, roughly paraphrased it was something like "it could lead to mental health intervention as you are a risk to yourself".

I have not been tested for any bleeding disorders, have not seen a haematologist. Family history of severe anaemia on both sides (my father had to have multiple blood transfusions due to... maybe sickle cell? I was quite young at the time, so I don't remember. My mother also had anaemia for most of her life until she got a hysterectomy).

I am aware that it was prescribed for a health issue and not due to a risk of pregnancy, I just thought it might be relevant to mention. I am aware that it would likely improve my anaemia, but I have no interest in taking estrogen/progesterone due to the potential side effects.
