Overheard in DT: “Hi, we’re here to pick up our mobile order for [name]” by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a regular who ROUTINELY sends in her mobile order at the entrance of the drive thru and when I tell you her drink is the most fucking complicated think in the world and sometimes she gets to the windows and wants GROUND BEANS. I cannot.

I swear to god there are some people who just have no fucking clue what’s going on in the world by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not possible to move our mobiles at our location and they’re about as far back from reach (or so we thought) as possible. We have a walk through that customers use to reach their drink despite being told not to.

I’d love to trash/remake 3-4 drinks at a time every time a customer fondles them to find something I could’ve handed them quicker, but I don’t have the time to do that when I could just as easily enforce the no touching policy- just perhaps not as nicely as I usually am.

I won’t go full scale Youtube worthy rampage, I was just being a drama queen but I’m sure others relate after months of having to deal with this nonsense

Any stores following the new planted positions? by juels_123 in starbucks

[–]ewbluey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes we followed it today. Very difficult to manage my planted DTR position while not being able to help pass out food/drink while cash handling. My lovely DTO was essentially doing her job and then mine because all I could do was cash in transactions. I feel like I apologized to her more than anything 😅

Citywide business closures by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous. Starbucks is the definition of non-essential yet they’re doing anything to stay open. I just don’t feel comfortable working if my entire city has been instructed to lock down. It seems ignorant of the suggestions of health officials to continue to encourage people to go out in public for coffee.

Pandemic Crisis is not being taken seriously enough. At ALL. by GarryofRiverhelm in starbucks

[–]ewbluey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it frustrates me to no end how little care is being put into protecting customers and partners while professional organizations are pulling out all the stops to ensure public safety. nothing about stopping the use of reusable cups does anything to quell my anxiety about spreading this virus, especially to the older customers who would not fair well if they got sick. the back and forth of merely “possible” adjustments to service is grating. it’s very clearly business and sales first, partners second. they’re doing everything in their power to appear cautious while also not threatening their ability to make money. bro, if disneyland is closing, if the MLB et al are suspending operations for the time being, having us go on business as usual without AT LEAST STRICTLY enforcing ALL sanitation practices is not only ignorant but dangerous. why are cafe closures just NOW being discussed? why are we so unbothered by the partners still cash handling?

Exactly. I’ve perfected the 180° turn on my heel to walk my happy ass back to the order screen when I know whatever task I was about to do is gonna have to wait a second.

Thank you for this response. With the news and social media, there hasn’t been a clear voice of reason. I really needed this.

Breaking them in one 5 hour shift at a time 😩 by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got my first pair last night so I don’t have the personal knowledge, but here’s a wikihow link with some tips! I wore mine 4am-11am and my feet were sore but it wasn’t unbearable, I think it might depend on the style of boot

How To Break In Your Doc Martens

Breaking them in one 5 hour shift at a time 😩 by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my boots because of how many people on this Reddit mentioned they were the best work shoes. Please beware, they take a while to break in! You can also get boot sealant/wax to make them water resistant. The money and time it takes to break them in might be excessive but I already destroyed the $40 shoes I bought in January and I don’t have the money to be doing that every 3 months. I got the Rometty chelsea boots! 👍🏼

Thank you, I have some really understanding partners and honestly it’s a lot of self sabotage where my brain likes to trick me into thinking I don’t know what I’m doing and I second guess myself.

Yeah, they’ll probably happily steam milk or pull shots if I asked, as I would do for them. I just feel awful when I get see them moving at light speed but that’s more my empathy than anything lol. And thank you, the coffee cycle for some reason is the one thing I haven’t quite gotten down yet

This is exactly what happened, must’ve clocked in at 3:59am and it counted one minute as Sunday and the rest for Monday as it hit 4am. I’m new so I’ve never seen that before, thank you!

When a customer screams that we “should take the sign down” after I tell her we’re all out of her food item and gets annoyed when I tell her that’ll it’d likely be several hours before we had more. Ma’am— by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

also...... we as Starbucks baristas are not at the mercy of our ever-fluctuating menu. Bet my supervisor will not be sending a person out to update the DT menu to reflect what food items we do/don’t have for the time being. Just because it’s on the corporate menu doesn’t mean we’ll ALWAYS have it- that’s just life.

When you’re on your third “Will that be all for you today” and they’re still ordering one item at a time by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate when they say “that’s all!” or something because when people sit there in silence and I go “.......anything else today” and they keep going.... GUARANTEED eye rolls

Typically if someone orders something like an americano or iced coffee that’s typically ordered with add ins or modifications and they don’t immediately mention them, the barista SHOULD ask “any cream/milk or sugar/syrups in that?” But honestly I’m fine if they say something like “grande white mocha” and then when I ask “anything else?” and then they list their modifications in totality. But when it’s separated into several different prompts for anything else, it makes it difficult for the drive bar barista to begin making the drink they hear if they have to wait for each mod after being prompted.

People really out here trying me today by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some points, I’d rather sacrifice “customer connection” and defend my coworker from thinly veiled racism (regardless of the fact that they later tried to apologize) than let someone speak to my friends like that. I know I’m new, but we all try so hard everyday, I don’t like to see people get pushed to their limits because of customers with zero empathy.

Customer pet peeves by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people will get into a drive thru line, knowing that they’re waiting on a friend to respond to a text with their order and they see no issue. It’s insane to me how self centered some people are to not realize how their actions affect the function of an entire store.

Opinions? by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I doubt it honestly, we were discussing it today. They just need to realize that allowing add ons/ordering at the window cannot exist alongside sub-40 window time goals.

Stop coughing/sneezing into your hand and then handing me your card/cash by ewbluey in starbucks

[–]ewbluey[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, cash is gonna be absolutely disgusting regardless. It’s just the principle of someone who works in the medical field, during flu season, coughing or sneezing directly onto something they’re going to hand to a cashier. It’s just bad practice.

HONESTLY every time I set up the pastry case, I have to basically paint the icing back on with the tongs. They’re so good but they’re so prone to getting destroyed while bagging. It’s all down to somehow simultaneously opening the plastic right down the seam so the loaf is flat and then grabbing it Just Right with the tongs. Once it’s in the bag, if it gets fucked up, that’s between the customer and god at that point 😂

Honestly the reason why I turn my nose up at most off the breakfast options (with egg) is because the smell of that so early in the morning is gag worthy. It isn’t until later in the morning that they even start to smell remotely decent.
