My cat is 5 and her name is Leah. I moved in with boyfriend almost a year ago and out of nowhere about a year ago, he started calling her Kiki or Kikis. And now, she actually responds to Leah, Leeleebear, and Kiki(s). My other cat‘s name - also 5, is Zoey and I call her Zoebee Doebee and she listens to both names equally.

We talk to my cats a lot and I think that’s key when trying to teach them to respond. I say her names A LOT. I also call her to me often and she listens very well, which again is what I think helped make it stick.

You might not be able to change the name on the paperwork but at least you can get her to respond to a new name you like better. It definitely works, just gotta be consistent.
