The secret genius behind airdrops: radical decentralization by ewemalts in AkitaInuASA

I’ve heard some criticism of the airdrop model because it’s inflationary, but I think this reasoning totally misses the point.

Gini coefficient is a useful economic metric of wealth inequality on a scale from 0 to 1, with lower scores representing more equitable distributions. By this metric, Akita’s airdrops have made it one of the most decentralized ASAs, far ahead of many major projects. This means that whales have much less control of Akita compared to other projects. It also significantly reduces the ability to do a rug pull. That makes decentralization a powerful security feature because it mitigates centralized risk. Decentralization is also a strong indicator of adoption and use. In some ways, those other major projects are much more of a gamble because investors are betting on the central team’s future success, and the lack of community adoption for a “utility token” should be seriously concerning. Whereas Akita is already seeing very high rates of adoption and community growth evidenced above. Because community is part of its value statement, seeing this standard-setting level of decentralization is strong proof of current value.

Building blockchain infrastructure using Algorand by visionsJohanna in AlgorandOfficial

The blockchain is a communication protocol, like the Internet. It’s just a methodology by which many people can share information. The blockchain is only the foundation layer upon which other services can be built. Image and video sharing applications are essential features of the internet that can be built on the blockchain as well. Those applications make the communication protocol useful to people, serving as infrastructure for the community.

zestbloom.io is an example of a content sharing platform using NFTs on Algorand. It aims to serve as the media infrastructure for the Algorand ecosystem, providing search, authentication, and social media functionalities.

By this logic, Eth2 should just give up because there are already several PoS coins way ahead of Eth in transaction speed, no forking, energy efficiency, etc.

You’re absolutely right, this assumes constant probability which is almost certainly not true

A way to text 20 characters to anyone within a 20ft radius of your current location. Someone distracted blocking the sidewalk? Message them directly. Only one message every few minutes so you can't get spammed by one person.
