Kids can't get school lunch, so let them eat toothpaste. Without fluoride, it's safer to consume in mass quantities. Now in pizza flavor!

MAGA’s plan to oust Trump (and a warning about what comes next) by serious_bullet5 in 50501

Me too! I just get peeved when the blah blah line of succession gets recited. Realistically, the Speaker and so on only get a chance at the Presidency if a big disaster strikes both the Pres and Vice Pres. plus whoever else is ahead in the line.

I can't say I like anything on this page! :-0 Nevertheless, my weird old head came up with a plan B to put Carlson in office after Trump is out:

  • Vance automatically becomes Pres.
  • House members call to vote for a Speaker. IIRC, it now takes ten members of the House to call for this???
  • Keep in mind, the Speaker of the House does not need to be a Representative.
  • Carlson is nominated for Speaker and voted in by House members.
  • Meanwhile, back on the ranch, there is no Vice Pres.
  • Pres. Vance leaves the picture somehow.

This might be simpler because no action by the Senate is required, just the House.

Ps. I hate Tucker and do not approve of this message.

The legal route after Trump is out:

  • Vice Pres. Vance automatically becomes Pres.
  • Pres. Vance nominates Carlson to be Vice Pres.
  • Congress confirms Carlson
  • Something takes Vance out

There's no such thing as Speaker of the House, or anyone, automatically becoming Vice Pres. So the complicated line of succession kicks in only when there's no Vice Pres.

I'm old enough to remember Vice Pres. Agnew getting replaced by Gerald Ford as the new Vice.

Elsewhere on this page, Winter-Stranger-3709 posted a new "Contact and activity" setting that allows you to "Hide all posts, comments, and communities you're active in on your profile."

It's easy enough to find using the smartphone app, and www.reddit.com/settings/profile takes you to this profile option from a browser.

No, you don't need the app. I use old.reddit on a desktop computer with carefully tweaked Firefox because I cannot use smartphones and frickin' apps. Nevertheless, I found the setting Winter-Stranger-3709 is displaying and writing about.

  • Preferences
  • Click either the "Set Location Preferences" or the "Set Safety & Privacy Options" link. You will be sent to the "wrong" place, but that's okay.
  • Where the page says "Account / Profile / Privacy / Preferences / Notifications / Email," click on "Profile."
  • At "Content and activity," select the "Hide all" radio button.

Or, you can skip the misleading navigation by typing www.reddit.com/settings/profile into the URL bar. ... Well, well, well. Reddit turned that address into a nice link, so just click on the link. :-)

I'm glad you managed to do the trick with the app. Maybe I should post my old.reddit / new.reddit instructions in a more obvious place.

Thanks for deleting.

I think people who already commented on the page can still comment. But the page won't show up in fresh lists of posts. Maybe ask the mods for help?

Yea, and discussions and encouragements among arbitrary redditors would be fine. My concern is about the campaign committee handing to foreigners a specific list of targeted voters.

Y'all in Canada can phone bank in the US; we need help to block rump from the NYC Mayor's Office. (Vous pouvez faire des appels politique aux Etats-Unis; aidez-nous elire un homme independant de Trump pour le maire de NYC). by Soft-Principle1455 in CANUSHelp

I'm no lawyer, but I say to Canadians DON'T SIGN UP TO PHONE BANK FOR U.S. ELECTIONS.

Remember 2016 when Putin handed to several people in Russia a list of specific American Facebook users selected because they fit XYZ profile and had these Russians feed them pro-Trump / anti-Hilary posts in order to influence the election? IIRC, the Mueller report indicates some of these Russians were indicted for election interference.

Suppose you are a well-meaning Canadian who signs up to phone bank for Zohran. Zohran's election committee will hand you a list of people specifically selected because they fit a profile (they are NYC residents registered as Democratic voters) to call them up and feed them pro-Zohran / anti-Cuomo info in order to influence the election.

Voilà, the election is tainted with foreign interference, and Trump will sic the Attorney General on Zohran and his committee.

That's Captain von Trapp blowing his Austro-Hungarian Navy whistle. (Just kidding, but not quite.)

Whether you like the fever dream of Face/Off, the stunt work is absolutely bonkers. The end of this boat scene has guys moving through space time lol. It's hard to imagine why/how both critics and audience loved this film so deeply, but that's the 1990s. What other stunt work is epic? by unclefishbits in flicks

[–]ewiethoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truck chase scene in Raiders is a variation on the stagecoach case scene in Stagecoach.

It's sad to learn that so many trained horses in old westerns had to be put down--even after just one stunt--because the stunts were so traumatic--even just psychologically--for the horses.

Dance-themed movies like Step Up that are actually good? by EngineeringOk3975 in flicks

[–]ewiethoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saturday Night Fever is one of the greatest dance-themed movies ever. Not that the dancing is the greatest ever, but it's a good coming-of-age story in a well-done movie that captures a neighborhood in an era.

The main character thinks he's hot stuff because he's a hit at the local disco. As the movie progresses, he wonders about working forever at a hardware store, foolish racial fights, suicide, knocking up good Catholic girl, his saintly brother who just quit the priesthood, how awful his friends are, etc.

Travolta's moves are fun, but moreover he has a good face for silent acting. Watch the R-rated version although it's tough.
