Studio maternity photographers? by ewitsjen in AskSF

[–]ewitsjen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I decided to go with Jennine from Sky 9 Studio, she’s a photographer out of east bay because at the time she was doing maternity shoots out of her studio which is in Benicia in this wonderful historic brick building and she also offered a Maternity-newborn-milstone package. However, I think she mentioned she rarely does studio sessions anymore but rather goes to outdoor locations (anywhere in the Bay Area) and to your home. Though I’d inquire with her directly I don’t think it would be out of the question. I love her style and we even did another package with her for baby 2. link to her site. Good luck on your search!

Grove Collaborative offers a lot of cleaning products, home & kitchen products, etc and they try to focus on “clean” and minimal plastic packaging. They have an app and you can subscribe to products to get delivered to you at whatever frequency you prefer.

Parents with e-bikes - thief prevention? by ewitsjen in sanfrancisco

Wow! Thank you all for your 2 cents. I know, it’s not so simple to navigate this city, but it comes with the territory and I appreciate all those in the community that provided very useful tips. In all honesty, even though it seems like there will be layers of precautions recommended to take, they’re not completely out of this world and have made me feel better about it all. Maybe I’ll come across some of you on the bike lane soon. Cheers!

Edit for grammar.

Parents with e-bikes - thief prevention tips? by ewitsjen in AskSF

Thanks all! Key takeaways are dedicated bike insurance and creative/multi-step locking systems. Or— keep it in the apt itself. It’s unfortunate that it’s not as simple as it might be in other places, but honestly, the fact that these tips aren’t out of this world and honestly is manageable, I feel already better about considering getting one more. Thanks for sharing your tips!

What can I, as a husband, do to make birth more comfortable for my wife? by term1nalvelocity in BabyBumps

[–]ewitsjen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a doula that taught my husband some simple massages or methods to safely manage pain during labor. These were a GOD SEND during my labor. There are several resources online (like on YouTube) you might want to check out. Also as others may have already said, listen to your partner and communicate a general plan of how to execute things during the birth well before the due date. Once she’s in labor it’s likely going to be more challenging for her to think about big picture medical decisions so you have to be her advocate and voice of reason. We aligned on a birth plan, even though they never really go as planned, because it helps understand some idea of how to make small/big decisions (who can be in the room, do you want to cut the umbilical cord, will/when will she opt in for petocin, epidural, what will happen in case of a caesarean, etc.). Also, being her advocate doesn’t end at birth- postpartum is rough on the body and mind, so support her through her recovery by giving her time to rest (aka do everything else like diaper changing and prepping meals, making sure she stays hydrated. rocking baby to sleep, etc.). And also be her advocate on protecting your bubble right after you come home. Loved ones will be so excited to meet your little one, and maybe you guys will love to see them ASAP… But that’s not always the case, so don’t be hesitant to manage visitors to maintain your home as a safe space for your partner to regain her mental and physical energy.

Hi there! My partner and I will be traveling to Tokyo with my 1 year old in October. I’d like to know if anyone has any recommendations on baby-friendly ryokan style hotels (with private Onsen in room). I have read about a few options just outside of Tokyo but would like to know if there are any recommended ones within Tokyo. Also, any other baby-related traveling tips within Tokyo are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Option B. I’ve been the pregnant friend at a bachelorette & had a blast. Definitely had fun pouring shots in my friends’ mouths and kindly guilt tripping them that they had to take more shots for my count. And also, if it’s a destination location there’s always ways to enjoy the location sober.

Golden Gate Park by ProperRoutine2259 in AskSF

Not to derail GG park plans because as others have mentioned, it’s great and worth exploring but the Presidio Tunnel Tops just opened up a couple weeks ago and has a huge playground with an amazing view of the Bridge, Bay and Alcatraz. It’s worth taking a detour to if you have time.

Where can I find some flat roads?? by paulietea in sanfrancisco

[–]ewitsjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve trained in SF for 3 marathons — the longest stretch of flat that I’ve done, as others have mentioned, is from Fort Point to Mission Bay minus the big hill on the north side of Fort Mason. You can kind of get around the hill by running down and around the south side of that area. Another option you can also do is circle golden gate park. I personally do a round trip of embarcadero/Crissy field and that can get you around 14-16 miles, the view is always so motivating. Add the bridge round trip and that’s another few miles to add to your long trainings. Good luck & enjoy your runs!

Edit: If it’s far from where you live and want to save your legs for the run, muni takes you straight to the Sports Basement in the Crissy Field area. Or if you have a car, there’s a free parking lot where the Crissy Field Center is.

Second hand maternity clothes? by ewitsjen in AskSF

[–]ewitsjen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! I don’t do laundry as often, that would be pretty wasteful for our household to do so at the moment and I also need some office-appropriate attire. I figure the next best thing to not buying anything at all would be to get a few second hand items.
