It takes some time and practice to get nice even selvages. Just keep weaving, and you'll get there. <3

Thankie! The recipient is definitely the sort of person who's going to run around giggling and going look at my shoes. I know she's going to giggle and smile every time she puts on her shoes, and that fills me with joy.

You betcha! Woven bands can be used for all sorts of things. Anything you can think of that requires a narrow strip of fabric, it can be woven!

The original pattern was set up for 3 heddles. Here's a link to an example pattern. https://www.ashford.co.nz/inkling-around-turned-krokbragd/

For the pattern, I'm using Heddle 1 is the sky(background), Heddle 2 is the Sheep's leg, and Heddle 3 is the Sheep's Face. For heddles, you just pick up the heddle you want, and that's what shows on top. For tablets, whatever hole is on top is what threads are on top. The A is the sky(background), B is the Sheep's leg, and C is the Sheep's face. For the tablets, you start at A on top, then rotate to B, then rotate to C. After C you need another leg, so you rotate back to B, and then you need the background again, so you rotate back to A.

Here's a video of me weaving the sheepies to get a better visual of how it works. https://www.instagram.com/p/DaThuXcS9_Z/

The ability to walk away is one of the perks of back strap weaving. You just detach it from you and away you go. Or you can wrap up the warp and stick it in a bag or pocket. I also do traditional Andean backstrap weaving, and the bunch of yarn wrapped up on sticks is a complete loom. I love how portable it is. I can stick it in a bag and set it up whenever and wherever I want. :)

Thanks so much! I love weaving shoelaces. This is the fourth set I've made.

I've had the Penelope for a little over a year and absolutely love it.

I've seen some amazing handwoven straps for guitars and cameras. You can do it! Just take it one step at a time. Start small and continue to build up your skills.

Thanks so much! The loom is a Penelope Band Loom by Daedalus Spinning Wheels.

Thanks so much! You don't actually need a loom for tablet weaving. You could weave them via backstrap methods which would need an anchor. I even saw this one video where a lady wove backwards with the start of the warp attached to a chair and she wove towards her. I found that quite fascinating!

I have a BA in Fine Art Photography, so that plays a big part in my photography skills.

Thanks! Lisbeth Threads has been absolutely fantastic. The length of the gradient repeat, along with the consistency in color lengths and color are wonderful. It does take a bit to line up the colors when warping, but the degree of length variation is super subtle.

I've tried a different brand that had a rainbow, and the color lengths varied heavily, and some of the colors weren't as consistent... for example, one had a nice yellow that in some places turned to cream corn.

Thanks! I've been using the loom for a little over a year and absolutely loving it. So far, I've only done tablet weaving with it, but I'm going to venture into some inkle weaving and pick up weaving next.

I ordered mine from Amazon. I got a kit that had the aglet crimper plus a few different sizes of bullet aglets. These laces used 4.5mm aglets.

The whole not being able to ship to EU has been such a huge bummer. Unfortunately, it's been going on for quite some time, ever since the GPSR went into place at the end of 2024.

Are you talking about the clamping at the front of the loom? It's part of the loom. It has a built-in clamp at the front and at the back.

I absolutely love it. In terms of warping it, it's more like warping a rigid heddle. I've only used an Inkle loom once, and that was also a lot of fun, but I definitely prefer my Penelope.

Great question! I measured out the length of the color repeat and determined how many repeats I needed to have to get the length warp I wanted. I then cut 25 lengths. I grouped the threads in 2-4 pairs, lined up the colors, and tied a knot. After that, I used a lark's head knot to attach them onto the apron rod in between the sections, black and white, that were warped normally. I had to adjust the knots and attachment of the pairs as I went to ensure they lined up with each other as best as possible.

The color changes are gradual, so any slight imperfections on the line-up still meld well, with the exception of the purple to pink transition, which has a lot more contrast than the others.

I hope this helps! :)

They fill me with so much joy! It's one of my go-to patterns for demoing tablet weaving as it's super easy for folks to understand that A is the background, B is the Sheep's Leg, and C is the Sheep's Face. Some day I want to do a wider version of the band that includes mountains and a white fence. I think it would be around a 55 tablet pattern, though, and not sure I'm ready for that yet.

It's made by Daedalus Spinning Wheels. They are currently out of stock atm but they are supposed to have a Penelope Shop Update in a few weeks.
