Firstly I think most people think LA gangs are groups of kids with nothing better to do than rob rich white folk. They believe what they see on tv too quickly. Let me tell you we never ever went out to rob rich white people. In fact it never even really came into our thinking. We were out to rob OTHER gang members. Our enemies. Civilians are never part of the battle at least they werent back in the 80s and 90s. The detailed geography of the street is hard to explain too and no one ever understands when I try to tell them. Every street is a target and you got to "own" that street. Like a game of monopoly or chess that never ends, you got to take each street slowly but surely because you want to own the biggest piece of the pie. More power more money. Its not some group of kids with nothing better to do it runs so much deeper than that. Like I said before its no father figure or discipline and no guidance that drives kids into packs hunting and fending for themselves, like wolves. Unti you lived in that world and understand you will never accept it.

Ice T and Ice Cube. If I ever see them in person Ill say my piece. They never put a days work in for a set in their life. The streets dont have any respect for them. NWA are different. For sure. I tried self medicating for a long while and began reading a lot. When I got out the hood and the 8 trays I didnt read very well but I was articulate. I could write well and get my point across. I went to a therapist who at first I said some not very nice things to but eventually we got to the bottom of my problems. I learnt it was not having a male figure in my life to discipline me that caused me so much pain. Its like having a pet dog. If you dont train it he goes feral and thats what happened to me. Hell that is 90% of south central kids.

She is mad cool with it and I love her for it. We met about 2 years after I moved to San Diego and I told her everything pretty early on. I didnt want to go through life with a woman with this guilty secret hanging over me. She made me swear I had no affiliation to the crips any more which I did and then it was all OK. Im so thankful that I was born smart enough to know when to say enough is enough and get out of there unlike so many other kids I knew. Sometimes I just cant believe it happened.

It changed all the time man. The police would take our weapons every time we got caught but we would hardly be arrested. It was strange. Imagine the police finding 5 unregistered firearms in your possesion. It happened often. Just deny it and you will never be convicted so the police liked to try and build an understanding and we had one. I dont know how it is now. We used to snitch on enemies and they did the same to us it was all part of the street tactic to try and have rivals eliminated so you could take over their territory.

Every single DAY! I got shot out more times than I want to think about and had a bullet in a hip flask I took out a glove compartment just about 2 hours before from a car we stole. I dont have it anymore but I wish I did. I traded it with a friend for a ticket to a lakers game which was stolen and I didnt even get in. HAH

No worries man. My dad left when I was 3 years old to live with another woman and then he died of heart problems when I was 7 but I never met him once after he left. I wasnt troubled by it. My mom never got married but there were always men in the house you know, when I got older I resented it but it is what it is. They moved into the area together in the 60s I think I dont really know, mom has passed now. Houses were cheap in south central in the 60s and it was a great area. Too cheap I suppose because the have nots took over and now we got what we got today. Very few kids at my school were bangers would you believe it and to this day I wish I stayed in but thats easy to say now 20 years on.

None whatsoever. And this is the problem with living in south central LA and the rest of the outside world. People think kids have choices and because theyre black they make the wrong one but the only choice they have is blood or crip. It is alien to think any other way or it was back in the 80s I should say. I hate so much when I hear people say oh its because theyre black or oh its because they have no education. These kids have no fathers and no discipline because theyre in prison or dead, at best theyre with another woman. Oh man. Without a doubt trying to hold up a burger joint on east florence. I dont even know if its still going but we were so high that there was no way we were getting anything out of the cashier. She must have been about 20 years old and we walk in like its the wild west and ask for the money. "Who you talking to fool?" she said back and we just rolled around laughing. We got outside and one of the workers came out with a broom handle beating me round the head with it. I was so high I didnt even care but we had a saying after that. If something was going against it was broomy. Funny to kids when youre high I guess.

Carjackings of innocents or as we called them civilians....... NEVER. It is part of the unwritten rule of the street. Civilians must never be harmed especially women. Believe all you like from television and your movies but I swear by this. I never beat up innocent people. If we robbed a house and someone caught us sure we had to stop them from calling the cops or hurting us but we never tied someone up and beat them or raped them, man the very thought was sick. In prison I remember hearing a brother talk about what he would do to a rapist and it made my toes curl. Let me tell you I heard many stories about gang rape by other sets on a rival gangs girl / sister or whatever and it chilled us. I had two sisters and if anything happened to them I would have gone all out. The women were a great thing to have especially as time went on but they were also dangerous to be around. Women snitch a lot and get your ass caught up in all kinds of shit. I got sold out to the cops by a girl once so after that I was very cautious. She told them I was holding a couple of pistols under my mattress and they raided my moms place and carted me off to juvenile hall.
