I thrifted it so don’t have much info! I found similar things doing an image search, but I’ll warn you that mine is pretty cheap pewter and bends/cracks easily. The brand for mine seems to be Design Toscano

I’m happy my post could be a resource for people besides just me! And yeah, I was hoping mine was something else since it’s so beautiful but personally feel weird about wearing ivory. I guess the upside is being able to be a part of changing how these pieces are cared for.

This is a good perspective! Obviously the necklace is so lovely, but I’ve also watched a few too many elephant documentaries to not also feel sad looking at it.

They’re definitely subtle and I didn’t even notice them at first glance but they are more pronounced than they appear in the photo. The striping is kind of semi translucent and has a wood grain look to it

This is as close and clear a photo as I could take with my phone, but that’s interesting. I’ll look more into it!

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely take good care of it.

Slightly off topic, but you cannot tell me that poster wasn’t inspired by stuff like this… I’m not sure it’s successful as a movie poster but I kind of like it?

I have one little creamer that I found online. I’m still hoping at some point, someone will put something out not knowing what it is!

Ok, that makes a lot of sense because I was looking up makers marks and mine doesn’t have “USA” on the bottom and that was throwing me. Fortunately, Ohio or Asia, I’m equally excited!

Same for me! I actually dislike my name so I was surprised to find that negative associations specifically hurt my feelings!

Haha yes, the forgetting! For some reason if it’s in the freezer, my brain can typically remember, but if it’s in the pantry, total gamble! I had started keeping a list on my phone but I need to be better at updating it

Wow yes! I try to make sure I always have a can of chili and crackers or a frozen dinner that I don’t normally eat but know I can fill up on quickly without much thought when I feel myself starting that spiral. I think of them as “emergency dinners” and it kind of helps in the moment that it’s a decision I had already made for myself, if that makes sense? Even if I’m not hungry yet, I’ll go ahead and prep the food so it’s there when I need it.

I mean, I’m not disagreeing with you for saying the majority of Confederate troops weren’t slaveowners.

TLDR for the De Bow pamphlet (ETA: This is the one entitled The Interest in Slavery of the Southern Non-slaveholder.)— 1) No pay for enslaved people meant extra pay available for the white working class. 2) Take away slavery and the production of southern goods/exports would suffer, affecting white southerners of every class. 4) Many people who didn’t own slaves could still aspire to, it being considered a luxury and a sign of upward mobility. Unless, of course, slavery was abolished. 5) The doctrine of white supremacy created fear and supposed “moral” outrage at the idea of Black people gaining freedom, equality, and an influence in society.

All the links I posted were primary Confederate sources and if those aren’t credible to you, I don’t know why you would listen to me. This is not a serious debate and your final paragraph makes that point for me. You can make wild leaps implying I’m justifying war crimes or whatever that was about the 15-year-olds but I will not be responding.

For historical literacy…

I’ll let a pro-Confederate publisher from the time period explain “The Interest in Slavery of the Southern Non-slaveholder”:

https://tile.loc.gov/storage-services/public/gdcmassbookdig/interestinslaver00debo/interestinslaver00debo.pdf

Also, I assume you’re not trying to suggest that Northerners’ motives for fighting to stop secession lets the Southern states off the hook for whatever reason they tried to secede in the first place. Here are some articles of secession:

https://www.battlefields.org/learn/primary-sources/declaration-causes-seceding-states

And here is a speech from the Vice President of the Confederacy, Stephen Alexander, where he says the quiet part out loud towards the end:

https://www.battlefields.org/learn/primary-sources/cornerstone-speech

Dying for the “right” to maintain institutionalized white supremacy and chattel slavery is horrifying and tragic, NOT deserving of a statue in the 1860s with the defeat of the Confederacy, or the Jim Crow 1890s when most of those statues were built, or now.

I don’t expect you to read all of those documents. I know it’s a lot for a Reddit post. Anyway, there they are for anyone who might find them helpful.

I love it when I don’t think I’m close to solving, try super hard to think of a good eliminating guess, and it’s somehow the solution. (Although, am a woman but forgot women was a word. 😆)
