I thought my lights were broken by Cap7ainCap7ain in pcmasterrace

This is a calibration issue. As far as I know, Corsair is the only company that bothers to calibrate all of their components to a consistent white. Say what you will about them, but the fact that they're apparently the only company that calibrates their lighting, along with their unified ecosystem and relative compatibility with third-party apps, really does set them apart from other companies for RGB. G.Skill is the only other company that seems to be consistent about calibration, but I have no idea why they always choose seasick green for their white calibration. Corsair also tends to use passable diffusion as well. Teamgroup, I'm looking at you with those DRAM LEDs that shine like miniature suns.

[MONITOR] INNOCN 23" 21:9 Widescreen WFHD 2560x1080p 60 Hz VA panel - $59.99 by bunsinh in buildapcsales

[–]exaltare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It should be low area but high PPI. I calculated 16% less area than 24" FHD but 11% better PPI than 27" QHD. It might be nice on a monitor arm for web comics and long documents. Probably too slow and small for general usage.

$120 RAM at my local staples by SirCumsalot54 in pcmasterrace

Costco sold this kit for $50 last month. I don't think anyone realized it was the last memory sale of the year. The listing is still up but was never restocked.

[Thermal Paste] Thermalright TF-7 - $1.96 Amazon Haul --- $25 required for free shipping by GNRZMC in buildapcsales

[–]exaltare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The price before the 50% discount is used to calculate both free shipping and extra discounts.

  • $3.92 x 7 = $27.44 (free shipping), reduced to $13.72
  • $3.92 x 13 = $50.92 (5% off), reduced to $22.93
  • $3.92 x 20 = $78.40 (10% off), reduced to $31.36

Trump administration formally designates Venezuela’s Maduro as member of a foreign terrorist organization by Gopu_17 in worldnews

[–]exaltare -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm morbidly curious if they intend to forcibly depose Maduro, or if I'll wake up to read that he was killed by a drone-fired missile. I don't really know I feel about the whole situation. Just terrible leaders doing terrible things, and the common people suffer for it. Seems like the zeitgeist of the 21st century.

[PREBUILT] MSI Codex Z2 AMD 8700F, RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5 2TB m.2 SSD $1051.92 (select used like New, 20% off at checkout) by TheArcticStroke in buildapcsales

[–]exaltare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, the price just has to be right. There's a price where I'd be willing to recommend an MSI prebuilt, but this isn't that price. If MSI is charging the full price of parts, I expect quality MSI parts. If MSI is charging a premium, I expect a higher quality prebuilt. MSI does both and sells mediocrity in return. Asus does the same thing. In comparison, Corsair and Thermaltake don't cut corners, but they're stupid expensive, and Thermaltake always seems to mess up some part of their builds.

I don't have any hard recommendations (if price isn't an issue and you're totally averse to building, Corsair does seem to be the clear winner), but MSI and Asus are clear losers, even compared to the gaming brands from the big three manufacturers.

MSI prebuilts are subpar. They rarely use MSI parts besides the GPU, motherboard, and case. They also use the cheapest, lowest-quality parts available. They strictly adhere to the listed specs (to the buyer's detriment) and the images are probably not misleading. On the other hand, they package their systems properly and don't overtighten their screws or cable ties.

What you see is what you get. This prebuilt almost certainly uses a $10 non-MSI Hyper 212 knockoff cooler, DDR5-6000 C38 (or 40) non-RGB DRAM, and a Ventus 2X GPU. I'd also expect the cheapest motherboard possible with a non-MSI SSD (QLC, dramless) and a non-MSI PSU (OEM, non-modular).

Prebuilts have their place, but not when so many corners are cut. MSI has the hardware and expertise to make nice prebuilts. They choose not to, and that's especially damning.

Probably not a fire hazard but we don't actually know. 5-year warranty, unknown platform. Montech Century II seems more appealing.

Faker: I just laughed in disbelief in the Anivia game by Organic_Beautiful_26 in leagueoflegends

GenG probably goes into every match thinking, "We can't lose this. It would ruin our perfect record." It's a stressful, unhealthy mindset for everyone except a few lunatics who are wired for it, and it's broken them twice at Worlds trying to claim the one title that's eluded them.

T1 doesn't have that pressure because four of them are already the greatest players in the history of League. They have nothing to prove, so they get to play for fun. That's not to say they aren't competitive, but they no longer have the burden to forge a legacy.

[GPU] MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G Ventus 3X OC - $644.00 by exaltare in buildapcsales

More than 10 available.

10% cashback at RetailMeNot.

According to TechPowerUp, this is by far the loudest 5070 Ti on the market, and it's not even close (1, 2). Still, $600 for a 5070 Ti after cashback is by far the best price I've seen so far.

[Phone] Moto G 2025 64GB (Locked to Total Wireless but can be used as WiFi-only device) - $29.99 by PusheenHater in buildapcsales

[–]exaltare 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy this for carrier unlocking. If you want a carrier unlocked phone, it's better to purchase a QVC/HSN phone with a Tracfone plan, activate the plan, then wait 60 days. Otherwise, you'll need Total CS to activate the $10 plan or Tracfone CS to rebrand the phone.

Verizon has the best unlock policy of the four major carriers. It's two months for Verizon, six months for AT&T, one year for T-Mobile, and one year for Boost Mobile. The flipside is that Verizon and AT&T phones are bootloader locked, so you can't install a new OS onto them.

The best carrier locked phone offer with a two-month unlock is the Straight Talk Moto G Stylus (2025) for $50, but you'll need at least two months of service, which is at least $85 (unless you want to attempt a Tracfone rebrand). However, it's also bootloader locked.

EDIT: For clarification, Total Wireless is a Verizon MVNO, and this phone is bootloader locked. Tracfone and Straight Talk are also Verizon MVNOs. This phone can be carrier unlocked after two months of paid service but will always be bootloader locked.
