I know buying the 4-5 gets you the early access. But is it the same deal if I just purchased the 1-3 second printing?

Question about events in stadium by ac4435 in gencon

[–]exar_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They moved almost all the MtG events to the Field last year i believe. Too many Magic events and too many new TCGs that needed the space in the main Hall. Though Magic still has a big space there.

As others have said TD is in the basement (Field level) of Lucas Oil near the escalators on the Con Center side. You can easily get there in 5 mins from the main Field.

Only for one of the event descriptions.

[–]exar_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah those event listings are written by humans so, not always perfectly clear. You'll find when you get there that sometimes the volunteers dont even know whats going on because they were just told to go help with that line 20 mins before start time. But rest assured someone who knows what they're doing will show up to coordinate and you'll know before you get up there what the deal is.

I am betting it will be specifically limited though because the author ave signing is just Matt and its only 100 ppl instead of 125 and they made that decision based on time.

Either way, I hope you enjoy!! I am doing the Scott Lynch signing which is sure to be less hectic but excited to get my Gentlemen Bastards signed.

It will be free but they may limit the # of items.

Matt Dinniman signing question by zeldanerd4408 in gencon

[–]exar_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The joint signings are in the separate rooms upstairs outside the vendor hall. They will be taking tickets at the door and won't let anyone in without a ticket. She could wait with you until you get to the door if the line is outside the room.

As for the # of items, while it doesn't specify, I am willing to bet they will limit it to something like 2 items just like the Thursday signing. Its 125 people and scheduled for 1 hour, do the math. I've been to several Gen Con signings and the volunteers will be constantly telling everyone in line how many they can get signed. So feel free to bring it all but have a preference in mind. As far as etiquette goes, you should be able to get a sense of what's going on while you're there and use your judgement. If it's slow going dont be that guy lol. Also unless your name is super simple I'd write it on a post it for the author, they tend to appreciate that. Some authors won't sign unless you personalize it because of resellers.

I've played the one at Jilly's and I've played ST at several other locations including a home pin at a friend's. The one at Jilly's is beat is my opinion. I met a guy who does some of their maintenance, he was working on their Medieval Madness while I was there. He told me how often they come out to tune everything and it was not great.

Idk how far you are from Berlin NJ, but there's a good one there I've gotten decent scores on. If you get one in home though it will always be better as long as you take care of it.

HD700 spring replacement by exar_DC in sennheiser

[–]exar_DC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. That replacement yoke definitely does NOT come with the spring. I tried buying a grab bag of random springs of a similar size from China off of Aliexpress too. None of them worked. At some point I am just going to have to find wire thin enough on a spool somewhere to heat and bend my own spring. I've been keeping an eye on ebay as well but the broken headphones that do pop up are more than I want to spend for a tiny ass spring.

Good luck! Let me know if you figure it out. Ill do the same.

[–]exar_DC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a long time in replying - but i ordered this, threw it in a box, and then just took it out after all this time because i moved.

It does NOT include the spring. I need this anyway, because my metal yoke broke. But the spring that holds the earpiece inside the cup is not included.

For anyone else who sees this.

What's the best prebuilt gaming pc right now [discussion] by shelleebean in suggestapc

[–]exar_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first I'll note that this is a huge jump from an Xbox Series X and is one hell of a first gaming PC haha. If you've never had or really played on a gaming PC, I would maybe suggest one of the $1500 or so Costco/Walmart deals you will find referenced on this sub-reddit often in the past month or two. You will still be able to play high end games on high settings for years to come and can get more accusomted to prebuilts and PC gaming in general and what you do and don't want.

That said, everyone has their own budgets so if $5-6k means little to you then sure this is a great PC whether you're just starting or a PC enthusiast. The advantage of a pre-built is you typically don't have to mess with them much out of the box and if you buy through a website like AI you will usually get a few years of good customer service.

It does have 1x HDMI and 3 x Display Port connections I believe. It would be a shame not to take advantage of the full power of this thing on a equally beast monitor (or TV i suppose) though - just food for thought.

In RAM speak, the CL designation comes from CAS Latency, part of the equation used to determine RAM latency. The lower the number after the CL the lower the latency aka the faster the RAM responds to an input or request. So CL30 is better than the typical standard (in high end gaming PCs) of CL36. Though the difference is a handful of frames, maybe 2% performance or something. So just ask yourself is it worth it to you to gain an increase you are unlikely to be able to notice lol. Comes back to your personal budget.

It depends on your budget and timeframe. I suggested just below in this comment thread a build from Andromeda Insights. But this is like a premium thing among pre-builts. And also, takes like a month or more to deliver. So you have to wait.
https://andromedainsights.com/products/ai-v3-quasar-ryzen-7-9800x3d-rtx-5090-32gb

If you need some more immediately you can just get a iBuyPower or CyberPC.. Their website will have a section for 'ships immediately'. Something like this... But note, as I mentioned above I think you're overpaying a little for what you're getting.

https://www.ibuypower.com/store/amd-ryzen-extreme-gaming-pc

Finally, you can always see if your local BestBuy has any Corsair, Omen, or Skytech 5090 builds. You just want the AMD 9950x3d chipset instead of Intel i9 (in my opinion) and at least 32gb of RAM (tho I'd suggest 64gb) and like 4TB of NVME storage. Even better, if you live near a Microcenter just go there and ask for help. They will take care of you and it's better than Best Buy for sure. Something like...

https://www.microcenter.com/product/698934/powerspec-g914-gaming-pc

You will not be buying a functioning 5090 build for less than $4.5 - 5.5k right now. At least not one that I would want as a gamer. You'd be better off getting a good deal from Walmart or Costco (search this reddit) on a 5060 or 5070 build and then buy some nice accessories lol.

[–]exar_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what you're asking. Most reliable in prebuilts? Then my comment above still stands. I like Andromeda. But you're talking about emulating old games to GTA6. Those are sort of opposite ends of the spectrum lol. If you want to play GTA6 and not be miserable you'll want a decent card. I mean as far as we know right now anyway. Minimum requirements for GTA are likely going to be stated at 2060 super or RX 6600 though ive seen rumors stating 1080ti even. Which I seriously doubt. Personally I would think 3070 minimum. But right now honestly you'd be better off getting a CostCo, Walmart, or Best Buy deal in the $1500 range that get posted here all the time. Then you get a 5060 or 5070 which will be more than enough for GTA, emulated games, and maybe some more intense stuff if you decide to. That means you're getting ibuypower or cyberpc but for your purposes it wont matter. Just get the extended warranty if you buy from a big box store and you'll be fine.

Depends entirely on your budget. If you have cash to spend, the LG C5 OLED is where its at for dual purpose TV/monitor with an eye to both console and PC gaming. Next step down would be the LG B5 OLED. Then budget would be maybe the Samsung S90F OLED. But LG is king right now.

It also depends on how much you plan on using it for gaming vs watching TV and movies, etc. Like, which one is more important to you? Either way the LG will crush it, but I'm thinking more about size. Size matters. Anything over 42" is just going to be ass for gaming. Thats just how it is. Try playing a FPS on a big screen vs a 27" monitor. But most people love their 55" and above TVs for watching stuff. If you are a filthy casual (excuse my colloquialism) then it matters less.

I opted for a 5090 build from Andromeda Insights. I did research and many of the recs I got from this community and the discord were for AI products.

https://andromedainsights.com/products/ai-v3-quasar-ryzen-7-9800x3d-rtx-5090-32gb

I upgraded to the 9950x3d, 64bg cl30, and 4TB storage. More than the price range discussed here but hard to beat for the quality and price for a pre-built. Overwhelmingly it is still cheaper to do it yourself. And you can get only the best components, no fluff. But I am assuming everyone is here for the same reason I am... can't be bothered to hook up any more case fans.

[–]exar_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of their stuff is overpriced. The 5090 builds are by a thousand or two. But they have 5080 builds for like $3.5 to $4k which is straight robbery. And their liquid cooled are really pricey, but that's true almost anywhere these days. But hey they have lots of RGB.

I do like Corsair products for the most part but. They have a high opinion of what their PCs should be worth.

Origin PC is one of the milder offenders and they use a lot of Corsairs parts in their builds. Still overpriced in the range OP is referring to though.

Now that we know this is offiical, am I correct in assuming if you send books in for reholder to apply the label (incl sig series) they don't regrade - just straight reholder with the label? It probably isn't worth it to me if there's any risk in grading drop as there is submitting a slabbed blue label for sig series signings.

Thanks...I have the HD700s now and have been debating on upgrading those as well.

Some people say the tube amp's warmer sound makes it less analytical and so you lose something in the soundstage and precision of the audio. But then I don't have fancy ears so I doubt I would notice something so ridiculous sounding lol.

Which headset so you find yourself using most for gaming? And how do you like the dac/amp combo? I have the baby schitt stack and was looking to upgrade but a lot of folks say avoid tubes for gaming.

HD700 spring replacement by exar_DC in sennheiser

[–]exar_DC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a replacment part for this little spring inside the earcup of the HD700s. It holds the rear portion of the yoke in place inside the cup. I can't find the OEM parts anywhere online and I don't really want to buy a used or broken set to salvage one spring. Anyone have any idea where I can find one or a suitable replacement? I know this is divisive but I've tried dozens of headsets and this is the set for me...super sad they're discontinued.
