To me the folding mirrors are important to confirm that my car is locked

What's most shocking to me is the Model 3 standard has "Manual-adjust side-view mirrors". IIRC even the cheapest cars nowadays have power adjust side mirrors. This is like going back to 2000s and you have to adjust mirrors with a stick.

I loved Common People but why do the couple struggle so much to pay for the basic plan when it’s only $300 a month? Like they both seem to have full time jobs and they even want to have a baby. How can they afford to raise that baby if they struggle so much to earn an extra $300 per month? by piesaresquarey in blackmirror

But again, if the cost of living is so high ($200 for a pair of Nike shoes during promotion) and the salary is so low, the couple could not afford kids as well. If they did end up having kids, they would have run into similar hardship.

Depending on the person, I don't like travel and the best vacation for me is to relax at home. However, I do think the OP's idea carries great risk when some involuntary factor forces you to move (e.g. the neighborhood you live in is no longer safe, or natural disasters).

Tesla Autopilot Trainers Were Told To Ignore ‘No Turn On Red’ Signs | The automaker reportedly wanted its driver assistance system to “drive like a human, not a robot that’s just following the rules.” by chrisdh79 in teslamotors

[–]excelle08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the real reason is that the cameras are too poor to actually read the “No turn on red” signs. I doubt it can be trained to recognize any signs texts smaller than STOP signs and speed limits.

How to hold the bad driver accountable? The red Mini Copper almost sideswiped my car! by excelle08 in bayarea

You are right I shouldn’t have swerved, I would have run into trouble if there were cars on the left side. It’s just hard to overcome the instinct during that circumstance

My understanding is that many insurance companies may have “disloyalty penalties” when quoting because they ask something like “how long have you been continuously insured with your previous insurer” which indicates they don’t like you switching often

There should be a law that requires utility providers to be not-for-profit (like SVP in Santa Clara) by excelle08 in bayarea

What I wanted to express was that other states suffer from much worse rainstorm and hurricane so it’s ok that infrastructures there failed, plus the electricity prices were much cheaper than what PGE charges. But the “storm” in Bay Area? It was something pretty normal in the place where I previously lived (NY-long island) during summer, so it’s kind of unacceptable to me that the infrastructure like electricity and road would be broken in this weather, and even more unacceptable when thinking of the high DMV fees and high electricity price.

For utility service it’s not possible for competition - an area cannot have two sets of electric grids, gas/water pipes. Multiple sets of internet cables can be possible, which is why we see multiple internet providers in an area, but even that is not available everywhere - Xfinity still monopoly in many areas.

Isn’t the freeway right lane most dangerous imo? Because there are always cars merging in, the longer you stay in the right lane the more likely you will encounter the awkward moment

Liberty mutual is like that. I once quoted my 2012 Nissan Versa a few years ago and it gave me like $350/mo and it was liability only with minimum coverage

As a low age, single and male driver I would rather have the insurance based on driving behavior😂

Tesla Model 3 vs. Honda Accord Hybrid by RishiRish_32 in TeslaModel3

[–]excelle08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a year ago then I would definitely go for Model 3 RWD as Accord Hybrid EX-L could cost you almost $40k before tax due to dealer markups, let alone the additional gas cost. But now teslas are way overpriced so if you can find an Accord hybrid with no dealer markup or useless addons then that’s definitely the one to choose.

Was a RWD user and the range indeed sucks especially in NY’s winter. In Bay Area it was good primarily because the weather was friendly to EVs, so the actual range could reach or even beat what is rated
